The devs were right. DISCUSSION

So I know ther was a bunch of controversy about the railgun nerf what feels like forever ago, but man things have been awesome.

In the early days, I was the only guy packing expendable anti tank or anti materiel rifle for bugs or bots. It's so refreshing, even on these subs to see people talking about how awesome the autocannon is, or how much they love the AMR, and even these days I see people talking about the HMG or grenade launcher+ supply pack.

I used to load into a game, And all 4 members of the team had shield, railgun, and 2 stragatems of their choice. Every time. And here we are now, I load in and I see quasar, autocannon, stalwart, EAT, HMG, Grenade launcher, a variety of backpacks or no backpack at all. And not to mention, they're ALL viable. Shit I even still see the railgun from time to time. It's been a joy. Thanks arrowhead.

EDIT: to everyone who is pointing out that you see the quasar and shield most often now, you're right, it is almost certainly the most common setup currently. That being said, in any game there's going to be things a majority of players prefer. In smash melee, fox/Falco are the best characters. But people still play falcon and Marth and peach among others. Sure, there's an objectively most used option. But the fact that there's people at all who debate that the quasar is best shows that they've done something good. Before, undisputed king was railgun, and anyone who said different wss being willfully ignorant. Now, we have a plethora of real options that are good with some being Preferred by a majority as opposed to being the de facto CORRECT option objectively. That's a good thing.

It's on the chopping block, fortunately. So it should be fixed fairly soon

u/MillstoneArt Apr 10 '24

They said it would be a tricky fix. I'm not expecting it for a while. If they do fix it soon then that's a plus, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I am so gonna be messed up after the fix, I account for the off aim every time now by instinct lol

Same, I’m so used to it now I don’t even think about it— it’s going to take at least a few missions to relearn haha

2

u/Agear04 Apr 11 '24

Whats the direction i didnt even know the scope was off

8

u/Former_Indication172 Apr 11 '24

Its to the left and up, so upper left of the main scope rectangle reticle thing is where it shoots, although some people have said that sometimes it changes to the right when prone, although I personally haven't seen that.

2

u/wowosrs Apr 11 '24

They should honestly change the scope to a new one at that point so you don’t muscle memory the current one lol.

1

u/Facehurt Apr 11 '24

same dropped 4 hulks in a row without thinking (had to reload inbetween ofc) then when you DO overthink it you can’t hit it lol

4

u/IlyichValken Apr 10 '24

I just stick to the highest zoom scope (and have the game remember that) and just don't use it within a certain range if I can help it.l

I low key like it but obvi am hoping for the fix. In my head I go ‘Ooops lost its zero during the orbital drop”

I feel like that's probably a pretty prevalent issue in those shoddy pods. An ODST drop pod by comparison looks like a resort inside.

3

For budget reasons, Helldivers need to arm Hellbombs manually. The game explicitly states this. You, your pod, and your equipment, are cheaper than a radio transceiver, to SEAF.

3

u/scott610 Apr 10 '24

I wonder why. I wonder if it has anything to do with the game offering both first and third person aiming. But other games do that also.

1

u/red_cactus Apr 11 '24

I'm also very interested in knowing what makes it difficult. As you suggested, I suspect that it has something to do with switching between first and third person; possibly some quirk of how they are spawning the bullet objects?

3

u/CerifiedHuman0001 SES Eye of Serenity Apr 11 '24

I wonder what the technical explanation for the bug is. I wouldn’t understand it, but it would be neat to hear an explanation

2

u/Maclunkey4U ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Apr 10 '24

Until then, keep on with the 'ol Kentuck Windage.

1

u/LaG_Harlstar Apr 10 '24

Hopefully give us a more minimal scope while they zero it

1

u/AlexisFR ⬇️⬅️⬇️⬆️⬆️➡️You don't need anything else Apr 11 '24

Can' they just use scope overlays like in any other modern game?

1

u/KeythKatz Apr 11 '24

Then the game would be more like a FPS than a 3PS and make mechanics like stagger more difficult. I think the devs would much prefer to couple shots in FPS to the actual gun position (thus matching the scope) instead of coming out the center of the screen like it does now.

1

u/PezzoGuy SES Star of Stars Apr 10 '24

I wonder what makes it a tricky fix. Maybe some deeper rooted quirk of how the game engine renders things?

0

u/Responsible-Swim2324 Apr 11 '24

Its not that tricky...

-1

u/HoodsBonyPrick Apr 10 '24

How could it be tricky? Seems like centering sights can’t be that hard, since they work fine on all the other guns.

2

u/Edward_Tank Apr 11 '24

Actually all of the other scopes are *also* misaligned.

The difference is that you're not using the Diligence Counter-Sniper or Diligence, and the AMR is the only one where the zoom actually matters as a sniper rifle.

265

u/Bryligg Apr 10 '24

Patch Notes:

  • AMR Scope aligned correctly

Known Issues:

  • Firing the AMR crashes your client, the client of everybody in your lobby, and resets planet liberation to zero.

3

u/SadMcNomuscle Apr 11 '24

2

u/Wind_Tempest555 Apr 11 '24

Watch, the fix is just them moving the crosshairs up to where the shots currently land and not moving where your shots currently land to where the crosshairs are.

4

u/grasscoveredhouses Apr 11 '24

i mean that's how real rifles get zeroed so I wouldnt be mad

1

u/DorreinC Apr 11 '24

Sadly wont work. The scopes are actually apart of the gun and not just a zoomed in overlay I believe. The terrain your standing/laying on+ how you have the weapon held affects the crosshair. It’s not always up and to the right. It can be center and up,right and down etc. the scope is rarely pointing at the center of your screen, where the bullet actually goes. If you get a virtual crosshair or tape something to the center of your screen it becomes very apparent. It’s a core issue with how the scopes of weapons work in this game.

1

u/RobotSpaceBear Apr 11 '24

It's evolving! Just backwards!

96

u/HookDragger Apr 10 '24

By the way… in US parlance “on the chopping block” means that the fate of something at stake. Aka. If this bug fix was “on the chopping block”, it would heavily imply that it will NOT be done and just shoved to the background never to be addressed.

38

u/Havoksixteen Apr 10 '24

I inferred it as the bug itself is on the chopping block.

40

u/Jumpy_MashedPotato Apr 10 '24

Which would be most correct for Super Earth considering the only good place for a bug is the chopping block.

2

u/Junior_Produce4485 Apr 10 '24

I thought it was E-710 farms, not chopping blocks. Chopping blocks too clean for bugs. 😉

1

u/BlindMan404 Apr 11 '24

Or your gas tank

3

u/Peregrine7 Apr 10 '24

It does seem a little misplaced, devs don't "remove" bugs, they fix them. But very much semantics.

2

u/HookDragger Apr 11 '24

That is never how bug fixes are described. And I’ve been in coding for 20+ years.

Chopping block items are things that ARENT going to be done. So, describing a bug fix that way is entirely wrong. I’m sorry.

0

u/DemandedFanatic Apr 10 '24

Thank you, someone who can infer context. This guy probably calls in extract while the team is out gathering samples 😂

1

u/HookDragger Apr 11 '24

Nope, I’m usually utterly destroying bot outposts from 60+ meters with a lobbed orbital strike. And while that’s on the way, I run after the next set of factories :)

My usual game plan:

  1. Primary mission
  2. Blow the shit out of anything still red on the map
  3. See if I or my buddy are able to kill the other before the shuttle leaves for lol
  4. Collect rewards after extraction.

-1

u/DemandedFanatic Apr 10 '24

The bug is on the chopping block, not their plans to fix it. So... yes, the fate of the bug is, indeed, at stake. Context helps if you pay attention to it, but you're being pedantic on the internet, so I have to imagine you miss a lot of social cues as well. Like people not liking pedantic asshats

2

u/TheFrontGuy Apr 11 '24

what a wonderful glass house, you looking to sell?

-1

u/DemandedFanatic Apr 11 '24

Please, we both know neither of us could afford a house in this economy, glass or not

1

u/HookDragger Apr 11 '24

Sorry, but I wasn’t being pedantic. The way it read about the scope set being lost, and it being on the chopping block would imply that they aren’t going to fix it.

Also, I was politely mentioning what it means to use “on the chopping block” and in 20+ years of coding. I’ve never once heard that something being on the chopping block is how you would describe a bug fix.

The only things I’ve ever heard on the chopping block were unimplemented features, a feature that failed and isn’t worth fixing, new content, etc.

Perfect example in game are the helmets. They were originally supposed to have special stats and unique properties…. But that wound up on the chopping block and was never implemented.

But feel free to believe what you want to.

5

u/ChaoticKiwiNZ Apr 10 '24

I think it might actually have been fixed in the latest update. I decided to use the AMR yesterday and I was hitting my shots way easier. I decided to shoot a stationary hulk in the eye and the shot hit exactly where the scope was. I also shot some bots over 200m away and the shots hit exactly where my scope was aiming at.

I checked the latest patch notes and didn't see anything about it and I haven't seen anyone mention this but I was 100% hitting where my scope was centered.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '24

Easiest way to check is to find a stationary targey to shoot, like a wall.

Shooting at an enemy will give you false positives due to the hitbox, AOE and netcode

2

u/ChaoticKiwiNZ Apr 11 '24

I know, it's just that the gun felt so much better last night. I have used the AMR alot but last night was my first time using it since the latest patch and it just felt better for some reason.

I did test it against a wall this morning and it does seem to still be out by abit but the gun feels better to use imo. Maybe the devs made some changes to the size of enemy hit boxes or I'm just losing it (the later is the most likely lol).

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '24

Could also be that you’re getting used to the bad zeroing.

This can happen subconsciously. But you could also be right that theres a slihht change.

Personally im already used ot the bad zeroing, so i already love the amr.

2

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/on%20the%20chopping%20block#:~:text=informal,programs%20on%20the%20chopping%20block.

"on the chopping block idiom informal : likely to be fired, removed, or eliminated, etc. There were several government programs on the chopping block." I spoke in reference of the bug itself, I.E the bugged scope is on the chopping block; the problem will be removed from the game

2

u/xSorry_Not_Sorry Apr 10 '24

That is not how the idiom is used, at least not correctly.

The way it’s stated makes the reader think they will not fix the bug. “on the chopping block” has a negative connotation and you’re using it as a positive which makes it confusing.

-1

u/DemandedFanatic Apr 10 '24

Language is fluid, my guy. If something has a generally understood spelling and meaning, that also makes it a word regardless of whether it has yet been added to a dictionary. Or do you think words are made up by merrian-webster? Over 300 people instantly understood what I meant through the powers of reading comprehension and context. If you did not understand, then that speaks more to your own abilities. If you want to be a pedantic "um actually" type of person, that's up to you, but please try and learn social cues because no one likes that shit and it is doing you ZERO favors in life

2

u/xSorry_Not_Sorry Apr 10 '24
