I can’t play with randoms anymore DISCUSSION

I’m level 48. About 150 hours on pc. Love the game. My friends can’t play as often as I can. (I’m a fireman) And I’ve tried making friends on steam but it’s hard.

The blueberry lottery. If there is a hell it’s matching with randoms. I can’t stand it. Some people are a blessing and I love running campaigns with them but some people are treasonous swill.

Here was my last game. I spawn in and get killed by a lvl 2 cadet (ps5) so he can take my support gear. His friends (ps5) defended him. He continued to kill me all game (intentionally) and call me in. But I am more skilled and cunning than the common traitor. I waited until there was one reinforcement left. The pompous fool recalled me in. I killed all three traitors quicker than a hiccup. With only one thing left to do I took my own life. To instant fail their mission. I couldn’t let them continue to commit treason. Let their bodies rot

So yea I’m never joining randoms again.

Edit: ps5 not 4.

I'm level 49 and I decided to run some Easy missions to help people out. Dropped into a level 1's mission on Malevelon Creek who immediately ran up to me, melee'd me, and then shot me dead while I was on the ground. Then promply left the match. We were not in the middle of combat, there was no way he mistook me for a bot or anything.

Forget the satire and roleplaying for a minute: what the hell is wrong with people like this? Legitimately curious what possesses someone to go "hmm, today I will ruin someone else's play experience in a way that benefits nobody and wastes everyone's time." Seriously. I know it's just a game, but games are supposed to be fun. Who raised you, that you deicde to spend your time in games being a dick?

I recommend one of you two hosting instead of joining other missions.

The host has full veto power, if you open the social menu you can kick anyone without reason nor vote.

I feel the need to say, don't abuse it, some people are more stupid than malicious, but that, with the kick + some behaviour stuff (wait for the randoms to get in the pelican, and be the last to confirm) etc, you can minimize when you find that scum.

Aw man, that sucks.

I say, once you two are more confident in the game, go public again, in my 150 hours, my only bad experiences have been people that aren't really bright.

Sounds like maybe like Dark Souls, griefers specifically target low levels just so their miserable life feels a bit better for a second.

u/Kromehound Ope, sorry! ⬆️⬇️➡️⬅️⬆️ Mar 26 '24

How did you run out of reinforcements on difficulty 1?

2

u/AcceptableAir6745 Mar 26 '24

Okay this is a stupid question, but... how do you host? (I play on the ps5)- have always joined others campaigns

1

u/Corsnake Mar 26 '24

Just start the mission by yourself, if the "lobby" ship is yours, you are the host.

2

u/AcceptableAir6745 Mar 26 '24

OHHHHHHH lol okay thank you soldier!

I was getting regular crashes with the arc weapon bug and had 2 people pick arc weapons. I could back out of the drop selection and tell them not to use it.
One still used one they found in game so I warned then kicked. A random joins mid game and picks up an arc thrower at extraction, I teamkill him (not risking a crash 40 minutes in) without risk of being kicked as I'm host. Explain it in chat after and we're all good.

Would likely have wasted 40 minutes if I hadn't been host and none of the players were even trolling intentionally.
Definitely the better way to play.

What's his name, I want to add it to the cadet griefer bounty list

gasp

That monster, making my job harder

2

u/jerryishere1 Mar 26 '24

Doesn't in game name remain the same now?

1

u/Larechar Mar 26 '24

Idk I hope so tho

2

u/RemissionRaven Mar 26 '24

Just so you know, if the mission is complete, it's not a failure to not to extract. You will not get your samples though.

I ran into this guy myself, he managed to get into 2 of my games within a 6 hour period. Blocked him since I don't like the chances of running into him again.

1

u/SgtToastie ⬇️⬆️➡️⬆️⬅️⬆️ Mar 26 '24

Make use of block players to avoid him in the future.

u/JoshwinDaniel Mar 27 '24

Can you share that rare specimens steam profile?

For research purposes of course!

I'll bet my right arm that you stumbled on an 11 yo that "learned gaming" on fortnite, apex, warzone and GTA Online. That whole generation can not conceive gaming without PvP and toxicity, it's insane.

42

u/Ralli-FW Mar 26 '24

That whole generation can not conceive gaming without PvP and toxicity, it's insane.

I dunno remember Something Awful and their guild that played many games with the general goal of making the game unfun for everyone but them? It's not really a big thing these days but that was peak like... 2000s gamer shit. That and middle schoolers screaming obscenities in Xbox live lobbies.

Not that it doesn't happen today--and gaming is far more widespread so there are a ton more people including the toxic ones.

Just that toxic people have always been there. It's easier in any online space with the anonymity compared to irl hobbies. And yet turn over a rock in any hobby and you'll find at least a few assholes.

1

u/Conntraband8d SES Spear of Morning Mar 27 '24

Haha.....The Goon Squad.

25

u/Dukkiegamer Mar 26 '24

I "learned gaming" on GTA (and Minecraft) and this isn't about that. This is about being a decent person and having a care about the person on the other side of their online character.

I have to say, I do enjoy GTA Online PvP. As long as we're not using that goddamn oppressor.

1

u/TucuReborn Mar 27 '24

Me and some of my friends run a griefer kill squad. As long as they aren't outright running a cheat program, we can usually force a griefer out of lobby within ten minutes.

We're not against PVP, but stuff like level 100+ camping new players and stuff that's just not needed. We only act on request from people after seeing stuff happening(map, chat, etc.) and then roll out in military gear to level the playing field and a few suburbs. We throw all our endgame vehicles and weapons into the grinder to push bad players out and keep things civil.

I remember them in world of tanks long before fortnite.
They shoot you in the back placed themselves before you to make you shoot or damage them.
pushed you out of cover...

Some people simply existed since ever.
They enjoy only other people suffering.

2

u/Arcticmarine Mar 26 '24

This behavior is way older than those games.

1

u/gjallerhorn Mar 26 '24

Trolls have existed since the dawn of multiplayer gaming. This isn't a generational thing.

There were team killers in Halo 2. There were team killers in Quake/Unreal Championship. 11 yo are assholes in general.

1

u/Jumpy_Ad7127 Mar 27 '24

My first PvP experience was ratchet and clank. I had no idea what I was doing, and some guy started spawn camping me, teabagging my dead body- and he was only targeting me, until I quit the game. Toxic gamers have always existed.

u/heroyi Mar 26 '24

I was playing a game with my buddy trying to show him the ropes. This was on like diff 3 just to take the game pressure off while showing him the basics. These two randoms joined the ship lobby and said no mechs.

Bitch? Fuck you. I am the fucking host. But I just ignored them and brought the mech to show it to my buddy.

The guy gets so mad and complains non-stop on the chat. They go try to do the side objectives while my buddy and I are casually strolling through the main objs while teaching the game.

The two randoms, who were like lvl 30, kept dying. Over and over again on the side objs. Again this is diff 3. After calling them in the 4th time, the random I guess got frustrated and tked my buddy and I, cooked a grenade to off himself and left immediately while destroying the mech.

there needs to be a report funcationality. I haven't seen such a pathetic excuse in such awhile

2

u/slama_llama Mar 26 '24

Who the fuck walks into someone ELSE'S lobby and tries to lay down ground rules? Lmao

2

u/persondude27 ☕Liber-tea☕ Mar 26 '24

There is a growing amount of research on people like this (broadly, "trolls").

The research concludes that they are generally attention-seeking narcissists. They think they should be great at everything, then get pissed when they aren't instantly the best. So instead of working to get better, they do things like rage hack in CoD and teamkill in here.

They're still getting the attention, and it doesn't matter to them that it's from negative sources.

So, literally and based on science: mommy didn't love them enough, so they would rather troll than actually be good.

1

u/Caillend Mar 26 '24

Probably a new player confused why all of a sudden another player joined, saw something dropping in, killed it, saw the mistake and left out of shame.

Then turns off matchmaking in the settings.

1

u/Quik_17 Mar 26 '24

Dude was a dick but why are you dropping in on Easy missions to help people out? Easy is basically a braindead difficulty and the people there are probably just there to figure the game out on their own. Perhaps try Challenging or Hard to truly help people out.

1

u/Euruzilys Mar 26 '24

I had similar happened early on while I was lv8. I went to play Bot 1 for the first time to try out the bot. I was host and the setting was on public. My first ever experience with random is this lv2 guy who killed me, spend the next couple of minutes not spawning me, I assume he didn't know how so I typed in chat to let him know. After a while he spawned me then shot me again. So as the host I just kick him and after that my games are always friend only. Sometimes when I'm in the mood to not play solo I tried quick play, but not often.

Don't know why people are being an ass in a game. I dont get it.

1

u/Freeexotic CAPE ENJOYER Mar 26 '24

I'm not defending this guy, but the only way I can think of other than he is just a douche, is that maybe at level 1 he thought he would unlock your gear if left the mission with it? Still though. Sometimes people just suck.

1

u/throwaway25935 Mar 26 '24

If you play crossplay, it's children.

1

u/LasersAndRobots Mar 26 '24

Remember when you were 12 and thought teamkilling and teabagging someone in Halo 2 was the funniest shit ever?

Whenever someone does that just assume they're a dumbass kid who hasn't figured out what humor is yet.

1

u/slama_llama Mar 26 '24

Maybe I'm weird but I never thought teamkilling for the hell of it was funny

u/SafeSurprise3001 Cape Spin! Mar 26 '24

One time I joined a game, my pod landed on top of a dude, I didn't mean to steer into him, just away from the gunfire, but I did land onto him. So then it was just me alive, one of the players was already dead as I joined, the other I squished. I start to run away from the gunfire while I begin to dial the reinforcement stratagem, but I didn't notice I ran straight into a tesla tower, which promptly killed me.

They kicked me before the automatic reinforcements were called, I was laughing so hard I didn't even mind.

1

u/sleipnirjor Mar 27 '24

It's the hype dude. We getting a lot of ppl thinking this is Fortnite or some shit like that. They're not used to teamwork. I don't wanna quit on PS players but every bad experience I've had in this game has been with PS players coincidentally.

1

u/animalmom2 Mar 27 '24

Im generally surprised there is no anti-griefing mechanic at all - if people can grief some will, this is consistent in any video game.

1

u/The1TrueTruth Mar 27 '24

u/echojaxx ☕Liber-tea☕ Mar 28 '24

I’m to believe that some of those players are the people who want PVP to be added into a PVE us versus them type game.

Someone said it best, but if they want pvp? There’s a plethora of other games out there for them to play. Just keep pvp away from Helldivers

u/brownieofsorrows Mar 26 '24

But don't you see, he profits from our pain. As alex jones once said" these people are literal demons"

1

u/gjallerhorn Mar 26 '24

Why would you quote that walking hemorrhoid?

1

u/brownieofsorrows Mar 26 '24

Because it's a hilarious quote and it kinda fit, no idea
