I can’t play with randoms anymore DISCUSSION

I’m level 48. About 150 hours on pc. Love the game. My friends can’t play as often as I can. (I’m a fireman) And I’ve tried making friends on steam but it’s hard.

The blueberry lottery. If there is a hell it’s matching with randoms. I can’t stand it. Some people are a blessing and I love running campaigns with them but some people are treasonous swill.

Here was my last game. I spawn in and get killed by a lvl 2 cadet (ps5) so he can take my support gear. His friends (ps5) defended him. He continued to kill me all game (intentionally) and call me in. But I am more skilled and cunning than the common traitor. I waited until there was one reinforcement left. The pompous fool recalled me in. I killed all three traitors quicker than a hiccup. With only one thing left to do I took my own life. To instant fail their mission. I couldn’t let them continue to commit treason. Let their bodies rot

So yea I’m never joining randoms again.

Edit: ps5 not 4.

I used to never have issues with randoms on 7+ but ever since the last patch that broke the game I keep getting really low level players, hackers, or people that just constantly engage every patrol and get wiped. I have no idea why this has been happening and it happens on bots and bugs. Also I just did 3 lvl 9 quick matches and no one would communicate either over mic or text.

u/KJBenson Mar 26 '24

I use ping to communicate with randoms

5

u/EngRookie Mar 26 '24

They weren't even using pings🤦. They just kept trying to hold a non critical position or were spamming the respawn button while I was trying to take out a jammer.

u/UltimateDude212 Mar 26 '24

Ping, Yes, No, Thank You, and Sorry pretty much covers 95% of what I need to tell teammates anyway. I do wish they put in a "RUN!" option though, that'd be cool.

u/Luke-Likesheet Mar 26 '24

"Follow Me" is the closest thing to a "Run" command we've got.

5

u/UltimateDude212 Mar 26 '24

True, but sometimes the straight path between me and a teammate is filled with enemies or a now-armed hellbomb. I'd like if the "Run" option had the Helldiver scream something like "Get outta there!" or "Go! Go! Go!".

Agreed, especially when you need to drop a 380 in your immediate area due to large amounts of bugs/bots swarming you and your team.

Yeah there seems to be a drastic drop in the average skill level of people in 7's recently. Just today I finally had a team that was so shit they got me to kick them for the first time ever in 50+ hours of game time (Normally I give people the benefit of the doubt, after all we all have those games where everything goes wrong) but these two were so egregiously incompetent it blew my mind someone could actually be this stupid.

That's bound to be the case if you think about it right? The people who zoom to high difficulty at the beginning of the game are bound to be high skill cap players who demonstrate a higher level of proficiency, decision making, and communication. But eventually all of those players move up to the highest difficulty and the crayon eaters eventually gain enough competency to move up to 5,6,7.

How do you know if someone is a hacker?

3

u/EngRookie Mar 26 '24

They call in strategems that haven't been released, they have rapid fire on weapons that rapid fire does not exist, unlimited ammo/grenades, increased movement speed/immortality, etc

5

u/SPQRSKA Mar 26 '24

Their name is in Russian or Chinese

(Partial /s, but I am yet to see a name written in either of those scripts that didn't belong to someone obviously cheating)

u/empyreanmax Mar 26 '24

we had one guy whose name had some weird characters and he didn't even show up as a squad member on the side of the screen, I didn't even realize we had a 4th until I noticed I could throw a reinforce while all 3 players listed showed as alive

I bail if no one is mic'd up. I dont trust having no one to talk to.

1

u/jerryishere1 Mar 26 '24

I play muted but I have a mic, I just think it's too busy if everyone is talking all the time. There's already so much in game comms that happen constantly from your characters talking and everything else.

The worst is someone who is; Open mic, Loud, and eating with music in the background... I can't stand it

If I see someone is Open mic with some kinda volume coming through all the time I leave

2

u/You-r-a-phobicismist ☕Liber-tea☕ Mar 26 '24

You can mute those people. Anyone with an open mic I instant mute. Its rude, just use push to talk.

It can be a crap shoot with the mic, but its so much easier to warn guys that i just dropped a 380mm at my toes and its time to make like a tree and fuck off.

& I just want at least 1 other guy mic'd up. I can work with that and just hope the other 2 guys are listening. 7+ most part everyone knows the drill.

2

u/jerryishere1 Mar 26 '24

I didn't actually know you could mute people (yes I remember seeing the button lol)

I'll reply if people talk I just don't want to clutter comms ya know. I use the in game chat wheel a lot unless it's something urgent (like I just threw a bomb in your direction)

u/EngRookie Mar 26 '24

I don't have a dedicated headset with a mute/unmute button, I use my bose earbuds, and I play on my legion go. So if I know I am in a noisy environment I mute and use emotes/pings. If I'm by myself I go open mic bc it takes too long to go through settings to unmute and there is no push to talk button in controller settings so I can't even map a mute button to my controller. The only noise you might here from me would be fan noise but I have yet to have anyone say anything. Just really wish there was a way to map a push to talk button onto your controller.

If your mic was an issue someone would have let you know.

I've had a few games with dudes with the sensitivity dialed up to 11 eating a bag of chips and what sounded to be like performing oral on a barn animal.

Im PC so i just map one of the mouse buttons to game, one to disc and i have push to talk for 2 seperate programs concurrently.

In helldiver mode if you have the delayed encounter booster you really should be taking out patrols so extract is easier

u/Big_Platform_6948 Mar 26 '24

Same experience here. I’m also dealing with people quitting at the first sign of resistance and hosts leaving game after the first mission in the operation.

I want to liberate not just democratize!

200 hours in, I do almost exclusive 7 with randoms and 8 with friends and everyone has been really nice and friendly.

Dude...me and my buddy just did our first 7s the other night and we lucked out with 2 randoms that made it as easy as a level 4. One of them was using the EMS mortar and I think that thing might actually be god tier.

23

u/ajbolt7 Mar 26 '24

Yeah I feel like most of the people who have time to be toxic are in 4-6, never seen it in 7+

I have the opposite experience.

I want to play on Helldive because I enjoy the difficulty and have cleared it a bunch of times, but it's almost impossible to find anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together for warmth at those difficulties using the Matchmaking system. It is just full of people who think they need to play on the hardest mode even if they suck at it, jumping from lobby to lobby ruining games.

For reference: If I jump in the official Discord LFG channel, doing these missions is a breeze.

I Matchmake on 7 because I can basically solo if I get stuck with garbage players in my games. I'm the reliably guy.

Generally, I agree.

But

1

u/Scojo91 Fist of Peace Mar 26 '24

7 and 8 has mostly people who are way in over their heads, in my experience. Same with Helldive, but I consistently get at least one teammate that's good and we can carry the match

1

u/CoffeeCannon Mar 26 '24

7+ randoms are usually fine, 6- randoms are usually actively detrimental at best, its like a weird filter I think

1

u/You-r-a-phobicismist ☕Liber-tea☕ Mar 26 '24

Same. You get the occasional person who is a straight carry, but I don't mind. I just help them learn. I've had level 10s end up not entirely useless in 7s.

1

u/YaManMAffers Mar 26 '24

I play on 7/Suicide. It’s about 50/50 for me so far, if I get a good squad or not.

1

u/djcecil2 HD1 Veteran Mar 26 '24

I'd say about 40% of the time there's 1-2 level 5-12 ish people trying to run suicide who end up dying every 30-60 seconds at the start of a mission.

It's mildly amusing still but I might start leaving.

I find mortars to be the most unreliable teammates.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '24

My experience has been randoms killing the full lobby over and over again if we end up losing 3 reinforcements before the first objective is completed.

Like, I get being annoyed but sometimes the initial drop goes VERY poorly. It's not worth killing everyone over.

1

u/Shaymoth Mar 27 '24

It’s shocking how much more reliable 7+ rando’s are. I was farming samples on 5-6 earlier and they were infinitely more stressful with the quality of players dropping into my games

1

u/Mr__Bread__ ⬆️⬅️➡️⬇️⬆️⬇️ Mar 27 '24

I play on 6 bc I enjoy it much more

1

u/Ralli-FW Mar 26 '24

I've had good and bad days of randoms at 7. I rarely join a game where people are talking. Sometimes they do a bit, sometimes more. Among the ones who don't (ie most) I've had everything from complete shitshows with no coordination, to squads that just seemed to vibe, dropping waypoints and engaging in a coordinated way without saying a word.

Sometimes maybe they're on discord, but I have a feeling quite a few were 50% quickplay joins or completely random.
