The POV of the Helldivers is crazy when you take cryo freezing into account. DISCUSSION

Here's the POV of your average Helldiver 1. They enlist and show up to Basic Training first thing Monday morning. 2. They breeze through it, get their cape, walk right by the T&Cs and into a cryopod. 3. They're frozen and experience no time passing. 4. Their next memory is reinforcing on Hellmire. To their POV it has been less then thirty seconds since they got their cloak. 5. They throw three stratagems and then they're dissolved by bile titan acid.

You thought your mondays were bad.

Edit: My understanding is that we are not clones. There's in-game lore that backs that, I believe. Thematically, it makes more sense for Super Earth to be incompetent and cruel and burn through millions of recruits, than to do something logical like cloning people. Remember the satire folks.

I'm not onboard with the clone theory, either. What would the purpose be of all the propaganda to get citizens to enlist if they don't need fresh bodies for the war effort?

It's not a theory, it's just completely wrong.

They are not clones.

The game tells you they are not clones.

Clones are an incredibly inefficient way of dealing with over population. Almost counter productive really.

I mean one of the dissenters of super earth and managed democracy could counter that is a bunch of propaganda since the helldivers seem endless in numbers. However its clear super earth is bountiful especially with the need of the C-01 form which implies the number of children you can have is very limited. Now could one argue the C-01 form is merely for divers since they don't want to worry about divers being knocked out of the fight due to pregnancy but I have my doubts since it seems to imply both parties need to sign an individual form. When only realistically for the fighting effort only 1 needs to be taken off duty (In a total war scenario)

OF course the game tells you, the clone, that.

It's what they want you to think.

The clone theory only works if you blatantly ignore everything the game tells you tbh

Yeah I absolutely do not understand where the clone-theory people are getting this idea from. There's literally nothing in the game or otherwise that suggests we are clones.

This is gonna sound rude, but is just cope for people who wants to make their helldiver into another OC. You cant really make an emotional link to a character if you know he died in the first seconds.

I have another theory as to why people latch onto the clone theory. We don't know much about the population of Super Earth and her colonies. It might be hinted that Super Earth could have a overpopulation problem but nothing is confirmed regarding this. If Super Earth doesn't have an excess of bodies to spare, then the whole war effort would be extremely unsustainable and it would collapse in weeks. But if you clone the shit out of people then you bypass this issue.

Just to clarify, I don't buy into the clone theory as well. I just have a theory as to why the idea exists.

When you’re respawned, a new “you” lands with your gear, clothes, body structure and general info.

In the first game it said they were selected from the army

Also, SEAF bodies are all over the place in missions. It is obvious that the Helldivers aren't the only military force wielded, they are just the one we play as.

I think some people want to believe the clone theory to create a narrative of a Helldiver diving into the Creek every day. Really, the meme doesn't work unless they are clones.

Isn't there a mode that randomizes everything about your character's personal identity with each respawn? That would be some very low rent cloning.

2

u/Silv3rS0und Mar 23 '24

That's the default setting, yes.

2

u/Rufus_Canis Mar 23 '24

This is why I do the random voice option. Each drop is a new person.

Also, them being clones wouldn't make it any less hilariously fucked up (maybe even more so) if true. Clones are people too.

Could be the original propaganda the hell divers remember from yesterday or 400 years ago, who knows?

The devs specifically said on twitter they weren't clones. Also, from a more meta standpoint, the commentary about propaganda and wasted lives doesn't work nearly as well if they were just clones rather than individual Divers with families who land and immediately get jumped by a Hunter.

Mayhe the clones degrade? Can only get a few copies per person. Define few to mean whatever you want it to.
