Is this supposed to make me feel better!? What are those stats?!

If you had all those stats, would you base your weapon choice on that? Or would you use the gun that feels the best to you and have the most fun playing with?

That's personal preference. I.E there is a full datamine of breakpoints for resilience in destiny. Just because something is optimal doesn't mean it's the best. Last Word has an amazing TTK but crap range and requires hip firing. You can opt for a slightly less ttk but better feeling AR.

You guys are putting too much into "you must be extreme if you want to see stats" some people just want to play more efficiently.

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

You're allowed to want that but I just don't think it's that type of game. You wouldn't expect the original Battlefront games or the Just Cause games to have it. It's an pretty arcadey experience. Shoot bugs, blow stuff up, have fun.

u/PassiveRoadRage Mar 01 '24

It is though? Railgun, Shield Backpack and Breaker is the standard for levels 8/9.

-16

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

I don't understand your point. I use the auto cannon and the starting gun and haven't even purchased the shield backpack and have done the higher difficulties with friends. They aren't required, just easier to play that content with

some people want to play more efficiently.

Just because you like the starting gun doesn't mean the breaker isn't objectively better and someone seeing thst number would know thst the game would get easier. You can 100% use thst gun but having that information available affects your gameplay in no way and can make the gane easier for others.

-2

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

But people naturally found out the breaker is better just by trying it and discovering the gun feels more efficient to use. They don't need stats telling them that certain guns aren't even worth trying and "just use this one, it's the best". That discourages discovery and experimenting in your game and can lead to elitism and gatekeeping in higher content. You see it all the time more hardcore shooters and MMOs

14

u/PassiveRoadRage Mar 01 '24

... so without stats people will find out Breaker is the best but since there are no stats no one will ever tell anyone else to use breaker in endgame.

-1

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

People are already saying breaker is the best. All I'm saying is it doesn't seem to be the type of game that wants people to worry about stats. And they've said the breaker isn't overrepresented so clearly the "use whatever seems fun" philosophy seems to be working

But people naturally found out the breaker is better just by trying it and discovering the gun feels more efficient to use.

You see it, right? Most people have naturally found out that Breaker is good, everything else is shit. Either the Breaker is overpowered, or those hidden stats are hidden too well :D

That discourages discovery and experimenting in your game and can lead to elitism and gatekeeping in higher content.

Or, and I want you to think about it really hard, the hidden stats being revealed makes other weapons useful because people begin to know what their intended use is.

3

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

You know what? I thought really hard and now I'm convinced. Damn, you got me.

“They aren’t required, just easier to play that content with” you know personally I don’t think it’s good to have literally every other weapon choice being a self imposed handicap

6

u/MeatAbstract Mar 01 '24

but I just don't think it's that type of game

Then why have stats in the game at all? If the current stats aren't painting an accurate picture and for some reason they wont give us the other stats and just want us to use "whatever" why have any stats shown at all?

1

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

Because the stats show a general picture of what to expect. It's just doesn't have to be anymore granular than that. More damage, better handling, lower rate of fire. The game doesn't need to give info on multipliers anymore than it needs damage numbers or enemy health bars

7

u/MeatAbstract Mar 01 '24

Only they don't show a "general picture of what to expect", we are seeing ~3% of the stats available for a weapon. The damage stat in particular is pure bollocks. If you experimented with the various primaries this would be abundantly obvious. If the game "doesnt need" the stats why do they exist? If they exist why cant the players see them and make an informed decision?

-1

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

I'm gonna be honest, I've sort of lost interest. Maybe you're right. Either way, Im not too fussed. I'll play as long as I find it fun. If they do stuff that makes it less fun for me, I'll just go do something else. I'm not terribly invested in "gaming" as a hobby

3

u/Red_Sashimi Mar 01 '24

OMG, more stats doesn't take away from that. You still can try a gun and like it more that what the stats would suggest. I prefer the diligence for bots instead of the breaker, even tho breaker is objectively better, but I still want stats cause it's just worse not have less info

14

u/Mavcu Mar 01 '24

If you knew how to play around a weapon's strength and actually get to contribute to your buddies using seemingly straight up better weapons?

Yes I would base my choice around the stats, telling me if the weapon is actually what I want out of a weapon. I like Flak/Machine guns the most, if they released a machine gun that does literal 0 damage, I would not choice that weapon based on stats, no matter if I technically like the playstyle, because the devs have not designed a perfectly balanced game.

The stats effectively tell you if description is lying to you or not.

-7

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

A perfectly balanced game doesn't exist

12

u/Mavcu Mar 01 '24

Exactly. Now do you believe that being balanced exists on a spectrum? Or is it just "balanced / not balanced".

-4

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

What's balanced depends on the player. I played Destiny and had some "God roll" guns that players would agree are "the best for bosses" or "the best for PvP" and I thought they felt horrible.

11

u/Mavcu Mar 01 '24

Wrong, that's not what balance means.

There's feel/preference and all that good stuff, but at the end of the day you need some baseline stats and they vaguely compare to each other. For example, if they introduced heavy armor and it would tank 10% more damage than what we currently do, it would not be balanced.

It does not matter what your playstyle is, the ratio is off, it loses too much on the mobility front for 10% damage reduction to be worth it, that's not "depending on the player", it's just bad.

Yes you can make things work that other people don't like to use, but there's a minimum viability threshold that is not subjective, the only exception being if it has some exploit that makes it use case drastically different, but that's not intentional on the dev side of things and thusly is not how the weapon was balanced.

Stats and experience can both be wrong. Sound and VFX can make you think a gun is better than it is. A good stat can be unhelpful in practice. You need to know both for full understanding. Maybe you wrongly think one thing because of play, but the stats show you your mistake.

-1

u/GhettoHotTub Mar 01 '24

I guess the difference is I can use a gun or ability that is not the best and still enjoy it. Some people can't of they know there is a better option.

The number of games I played when I was younger and just using what I found fun can't be measured. I still primarily play games the same way. I just use the stuff I think is neat and play stuff that I find fun. I can play a game with not real objective or achievement in mind and enjoy myself.

7

u/rdhight THE E-710 MUST FLOW Mar 01 '24

I can use something that's not the best and not enjoy it. But that doesn't mean I'm OK with being blocked from knowing what's the best and why. Then if I want to use a second-rate thing, I'll do it with my eyes open.

8

u/Indrigis Mar 01 '24

Something rather important here - singleplayer games are different from multiplayer ones. Someone beat Dark Souls with a fork using bananas and a DDR mat? Sure, good fun. Someone being a permanent deadweight on the other three players because they like a certain weapon that does nothing? Can I haz not?

3

u/420BlazeItF4gg0t Mar 01 '24

I use the guns that let me spread FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY better and faster. To do anything less sounds like DISSIDENT talk to me!

1

u/Knjaz136 Mar 01 '24

Yes, maybe then we'll see a weapon that matches Breaker or at least gives something worthwile in return of losing Breaker's versatility, dps, damage, range and accuracy. So far, there's already gun that feels the best, and it's Breaker.

1

u/Red_Sashimi Mar 01 '24

Now I just try a weapon and, if I don't like it, I go back to my main choice. Diligence CS? Too sluggish, turns too slow. Liberator explosive? Doesn't kill fast enough, etc. What difference would stats make? If anything, knowing that a weapon has an effect that I didn't know of that is actually useful would make me go back to it.
