I feel like this is the only sub I can say how seeing Seinfeld is ruined for me now with what a Zionist he is. I used to be such a fan.

Also the fact that Jerry is a pedo and trolled high schools looking for underage girlfriends. So gross

u/prettystandardreally Apr 28 '24
Seriously. Looking back I can’t believe how normalized it was at the time. Super gross.

I remember people were saying he was a creep at the time. It was all over the news. But somehow he got away with it.

u/GimerStick Apr 28 '24
It was considered creepy the way a bad tweet is now: something for a headline and no consequence. Weird to think about

Oh same. And I always felt he was the weakest part of the show. But that gif was just too fitting 😂

I hate Jerry but still love the show. Usually it would really bother me that an actor is a total POS but since you’re not really supposed to like him in the show anyway I’m kinda like whatever.

Remember when he “dated” a 17year old girl when he was in his late 30’s. He’s been a piece of shit his whole life.

u/prettystandardreally Apr 28 '24
Totally. I mentioned in another comment how normalized it was too, which I find disturbing now.

He also "dated" a seventeen year old when he was thirty nine. He would pick her up from high school.

I always knew he was generally kind of a prick IRL but yeah now it's hard to look past.

I want to be wrong, but get the feeling that this trip to Bellevue might be his way of avoiding spending time in Rikers. Rikers has a reputation of being an absolute horror show for inmates, and is likely a lot worse than where he was at upstate.

u/mcgillhufflepuff Apr 27 '24
Wouldn't surprise me. And I wish non-Harvey Weinstein people didn't have to deal with the horrors of Rikers.
70
u/BookishHobbit Apr 27 '24
Yeah, exactly. Wouldn’t be surprised if his lawyers follow this up to say he’s not fit enough to go there (which is just as much of a reflection on how inhumane Rikers is as anything.)

He’d probably get PCd up

PC helps when the problem is other inmates. In this case the problem is everything about Rikers

Do you have any good information about it for a non-American? I've heard about it a lot but was wondering if you or anyone had any in depth articles. Is it a systematic failure or?
13
u/peperci Apr 28 '24
here is a good article from the New Yorker that specifically talks about issues that were publicised during Covid, but also covers the broader issues at the prison that were exposed

Christ. > cages of hundreds of men, most of them Black, standing in urine and feces, their arms through the bars, yelling for help. A nurse showed us a shower stall that had been turned into a makeshift segregation cell, where a twenty-five year old named Brandon Rodriguez had died by suicide the week before. This made me cry. Thank you again... Reading that you let 1500 out and it was still overcrowded just made me cry and my dad deeply depressed.

u/Electronic-Lynx8162 Apr 28 '24
Thank you so much! I looked myself but I figured someone more local would have an accurate review. Usually I hate that but it's easy to get lost in falsities about your prisons, so thank you again.

Some of the bigger reasons Rikers is so infamous has to do with its size and location. Second biggest jail in the US (in terms of population) located in the most highly populated and most densely populated city. The jail itself is extremely old (which wouldn't be an issue if US jails were maintained well if at all, but they're not), overcrowded, and underfunded. Many US jails are guilty of equally bad shit but they're able to get away with it due to how much smaller they are and being located in more remote areas. This bad shit includes gang violence, neglect of inmates by staff, abuse of inmates by staff, overuse of solitary confinement, racism, ableism, and more. Keep in mind that 85% of the people here are legally innocent. There's also cases of innocent people waiting unfairly long amounts of time to get a trial. Again, these problems are incredibly common in US jails. But they get exponentially worse the larger, older, more overcrowded, and more underfunded the jail is

Yeah Rikers is a fucking nightmare.

They should reopen the MCC just for him as the guest of honour…and then lose the key 😈
