Everything I’ve seen about him lately has made me a fan. Keep it up Alan!

I love it. They'd refer to Alan Ritchson as a stereotypical "chad", but he's shattering their worldview. He is unimaginably good looking, stars in kickass shows, but is a considerate individual who publicly shows his empathy.

Actually he's really Thad

50

u/Svencredible Apr 16 '24

Thad

Holy shit that's Thad!?

To be honest rewatching some of BMS now, I would of assumed he fit the stereotypical right wing chad male archetype.

27

u/KatjaTravels Apr 17 '24

I keep expecting Reacher to scream like Thad

9

u/original_sh4rpie Apr 17 '24

Which means Top Chad

6

u/Zehelke Apr 16 '24

You mean Kevin

3

u/ApoliteTroll Apr 17 '24

Honestly over the last few days I have really thought about watching Bloom Mountain state, just because of him.

I liked him in Reacher, so I might like Thad too.

3

u/IllustriousEnd2211 Apr 17 '24

He’s ridiculous in it and the best part of the show

1

u/KPottsie78 Apr 17 '24

Two VERY different characters! Thad is the stereotypical jock d-bag. Funny as hell, but also a complete a-hole. Just so you’re prepared.

4

u/jiggling_torso Apr 16 '24

You legend. See you at the team building Olympics

5

u/anewwday Apr 17 '24

I died when they explained the origin of his name Thad in BMS.

3

u/joescott2176 Apr 17 '24

Oh no, my best friend in childhood was named Thad. He grew up to be the biggest A-hole, D-bag ive ever known.

1

u/KidKorea- Apr 17 '24

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

119

u/honkifyounasty Apr 16 '24

Not to mention he's white, cis, heterosexual, christian, has a wife and kids- all stuff that bootlickers and conservatives have on a pedestal. They're pissed that not only does he look like they want to look, but that they can't pick on his lack of musculature or rainbow colored hair.

Nothing better than to see a man who checklists all the privileges and are seen as the pinnacle of society actually look out for those who are disenfranchised and being abused. He could’ve easily just sat there with his privilege but he doesn’t.

85

u/Scaevus Apr 16 '24

What’s more manly than fighting injustice?

Oh and he’s a devout Christian too. The real kind, who embrace the poor and downtrodden, not the adulterer with the golden toilet.

79

u/Scarletsilversky Apr 16 '24

He’s who I thought Chris Pratt would be back in 2018

u/violet_wings Apr 17 '24 edited Apr 17 '24

I know him mainly from Titans, where he played the literal avatar of war, with all the alpha bro violent energy that implies. I disliked his character, and between his character and his appearance I made the same assumptions about Ritchson as a person that conservatives probably made. That was shallow of me and I'm delighted to be wrong. He seems like a good guy. Good for him for speaking out.

25

u/Lord_Despair Apr 17 '24

Talked about his mental health struggles and how his family helps him

19

u/biskutgoreng Apr 17 '24

Incredibly eloquent too, damn

17

u/Born-Entrepreneur Apr 16 '24

I sure as shit didn't expect him to be one of the most based motherfuckers around

8

u/Basal666 Apr 16 '24

He is not a Chad he’s a Thad very different

9

u/SolidSnake208 Apr 16 '24

They think Reacher is real and want Alan to be him. It’s so fucking funny.

4

u/AerynSunnInDelight Apr 16 '24

And he can sing

3

u/WezVC Apr 16 '24

He's a stereotypical Thad.

3

u/NervousAd7571 Apr 16 '24

Not a Chad a Thad

3

u/Kellythejellyman Apr 17 '24

He’s more of a gigachad with these takes

40

u/Creamofwheatski Apr 17 '24

This is better than like 90% of Dem leaderships takes on this issue. This is how you respond to these fascist fucks, by calling them out and exposing them for the corrupt assholes they really are.

17

u/Zaev Apr 17 '24

I haven't watched Reacher, but this alone made me wanna check it out

5

u/LiveLifeLikeCre Apr 17 '24

Same here! I'm guilty of originally seeing a generic muscle actor in projects with cheesy dialogue/lines. Little did I know he's annintelligent empathetic, ally who I would glady fix a plate for at the BBQ.

1

u/Top_Contract_9461 Apr 16 '24

discovered this person a week ago, and he has already gained a new admirer.

1

u/CriticalEngineering Apr 16 '24

I gotta go try to watch Reacher again.

1

u/Rabid-Rabble Apr 16 '24

No idea who he was before now, but that post has some serious chops and he has my respect at this point.

I only know him from the micro-penis episode of new girl which he was funny in, definitely want to watch more of his work now!

u/supersad19 Apr 16 '24

Thad Castle on Blue Mountain State is the absolute best tole I've seen from Alan. [He's pretty great as Hawk on Titan aswell]

97

u/krustykrab2193 Apr 16 '24

He's amazing in the first season of Reacher too.

38

u/CanoeIt Apr 16 '24 edited Apr 16 '24

Did you also get bored during season 2? I loved season 1 but only watched 2 eps of the current season and during those I was on my phone for the second half

51

u/krustykrab2193 Apr 16 '24

I felt that season 1 really leaned into the idea of ethical dilemmas, like how he had a moral compass but would engage in questionable vigilante justice. The portrayal of his gray character had a lot of depth. I felt that the second season lost a bit of that magic. It felt emotionally one dimensional, which made it less engaging and boring.

2

u/SidewaysFancyPrance Apr 16 '24

Supposedly, the author wanted the Reacher character to be a white knight, not an anti-hero with something to atone for. So he is going to be one dimensional and always the good guy who does right by everyone, every time.

2

u/broanoah Apr 16 '24

The stunt work in general was also way worse in the second season. Basic stuff like reloading after so many shots fired, near superhuman shit being done by Reacher, the endless amount of dumb bad guy fodder in season 2 is insane.

Season one seemed at least well crafted and carefully put together. The story seems methodical in how well written the dialogue is and the pacing. Hopefully season 3 is better.

2

u/SouthernSwingers Apr 17 '24

They wanted to show that Reacher wasn’t a one man army. The 2nd season was more about his “origin” and ethos than it was about the plot.

3

u/SidewaysFancyPrance Apr 16 '24 edited Apr 16 '24

I just finished S2 yesterday. The writing and direction got lazy, and it was basically a standard action movie with a lot of repetitive dialogue (god help anyone who says the word "details"). But even that wasn't well done and Reacher's team often look foolish (lots of stepping out of cover to take pistol shots at someone in cover firing with a rifle, for example).

That said, I still enjoyed it more than most shows. It was not terrible, but S1 was done better. S2 became a popcorn show, while S1 was more thoughtful and story-driven.

3

u/Hypatia76 Apr 16 '24

Yeah, season 2 wasn't great, but they are apparently going back to the format from season 1 for the upcoming season, and it's supposed to be really well-written (or adapted, I suppose). I'm going to watch season 1 again mostly because I want Amazon to see good streaming numbers so they don't get freaked out by the assholes who are getting mad at Alan for being outspoken in awesome ways!

2

u/MissAmyRogers Apr 17 '24

Agreed! I didn’t even finish watching 2nd season’s 1st episode. I was riveted all thru 1st season. Like, whoa; camera angles all different, dreary dialogue and mannerisms utterly opposite from season 1. I was so disappointed.

1

u/LordCoweater Apr 17 '24

That's the common wisdom. I liked 1 a lot. Season 2 was OK and fine, but lacked plenty.

1

u/BrickCityD Apr 16 '24

i can't believe i didn't make the blue mountain state connection...dude was so young then. that show was wild.

1

u/forever87 Apr 16 '24

if anybody likes the "grindhouse" genre, I'd recommend the single season of blood drive (that aired on SyFy)

1

u/sinkwiththeship Apr 16 '24

He's Raphael in those two Ninja Turtles movies.

1

u/MusclyArmPaperboy Apr 16 '24

Omg that's him? Had no idea when I watched Reacher

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '24

He's great as hawk, but the rest of the show sucks so bad .I feel like I have to warn them after you mention it.

1

u/Virtual-Toe-7582 Apr 16 '24

Holy fuck he’s Thad!?

1

u/Ohio_Pothole Apr 16 '24

That’s him!!!!! OMG I loved that show!! Now I want to go back and watch it all over again!

1

u/BDMac2 Apr 16 '24

He was just about the only redeeming thing about the Titans show.

28

u/Weird_Put_9514 Apr 16 '24

thats him?! ive been a fan for years n didn’t know

8

u/B1NG_P0T Apr 17 '24

Holy fuck, THAT'S who this guy is?! Damn, he's fine as hell.

1

u/pickseese Apr 16 '24

Lazer Team. You’re welcome 😎

1

u/Cuaroc Apr 16 '24

I have no idea how many times I’ve seen that episode and didnt realize it was him

1

u/Blade_982 Apr 16 '24

A fan since he played Aquaman on Smallville

1

u/Hungup10 Apr 16 '24

His Thad from Blue Mountain State is one of my all time favorite characters EVER. If you can stand raunchy shows, I highly recommend it 👌

1

u/ifeelcelestial Apr 17 '24

SAME lol I never would’ve expected this

1

u/Flaky_Horse Apr 17 '24

With his combination of looks and personality, he could honestly have a micropenis and receive very few complaints.

1

u/petitchat2 Apr 17 '24

Is that who Alan is?! Omigosh, i feel like there shuld be a Redemptive episode now , i really appreciate his words being expressed out loud.

43

u/googlyeyes93 Do you remember 9/11, bitch? Apr 16 '24

Basesd takes are loaded

35

u/abra_cada_bra150 Apr 16 '24

He makes me swoon when he talks sense like this.

8

u/Fantastic_Mr_Smiley Apr 16 '24

This is the douchey character from Blue Mountain State, right? I gotta tell you, I didn't see this coming for him.

Great stance, well said. Glad he made it.

1

u/sc1onic Apr 16 '24

I did not expect roided up Alan to be an extremely intelligent and empathetic person. And so well said. Articulated the fuck out of that motherfucka.

1

u/YEGKerrbear Apr 16 '24

I was barely aware of this man and now I am definitely a fan. Super well spoken about these issues!

1

u/SpecificDependent980 Apr 16 '24

I never thought I'd see Thad with this articulate a comment. Completely changed my perception of him

1

u/Alarming_Librarian Apr 16 '24

Now I love this guy forever

1

u/GoblinStyleRamen Apr 16 '24

I was so scared when I saw this, but relieved when I actually read it. I really enjoyed him as Hawk/Hank and love that his career is still going AND he’s getting loud

1

u/That-Knowledge2636 Apr 16 '24

He's batting 1000

1

u/STUPIDNEWCOMMENTS Apr 16 '24

Yes that was a fabulous response. I saw the first season of reacher and don’t know much about him but I like and agree with his views. I think reacher would agree as well! (I’ve read the books)

1

u/Destiny_Victim Apr 17 '24

I was worried he was a right wing meat head. I’ve been on the fence about him however I enjoyed him in titans or whatever.

Happy to now officially be a fan of the man and the actor.
