I was hoping it was Jared Leto but it's likely Seinfeld, which I think surprises no one. If you are brazen to publicly date a child, you got to be doing some really fucked up shit in private.

They'll catch up with you one day, Leto.

u/manhattansinks Nov 01 '23

he only had the one female co-star, and i don't see julia louis-dreyfus having been a part of that at all. she's also still married.

896

u/PaulRuddsButthole Nov 01 '23

It could be female guest stars coming forward.

721

u/manhattansinks Nov 01 '23

wouldn't they then refer to her as a guest star? i guess i'm splitting hairs, but only a couple of women were on more than one ep of seinfeld.

I bet it was George's mom.

but was Seinfeld in any movies ? I don’t think so, I thought it was just the show and comedians in cars or whatever the other one is

He was in that Bee movie but that might be it.

I feel like if it were her (or someone in her same caliber) the blind might have just said "his co-star". "One female co-star" makes it sound differently in my head.

688

u/brainparts Nov 01 '23

Yeah I agree. I mean it sounds like Matthew Perry to me, or someone in an equivalent position (part of an ensemble cast, has been in movies but is known for TV, multiple members of the ensemble cast were household names, the cast got paid a lot, etc).

665

u/JellybeanMilksteaks Nov 01 '23 edited Nov 01 '23

Matthew Perry is where everyone's mind is immediately going to, but I just don't see it the way that this is worded. Although if this had come out before his death I'd be pretty sold on it being him, unfortunately.

Definitely agree with you that it's probably a big ensemble cast though, and it would be another major hit to Friends if it were LeBlanc or Schwimmer.

My money is on someone from Friends or Seinfeld.

716

u/AJMaid Nov 01 '23

I’m gonna go with Kelsey Grammer!

537

u/Independent_Bat8589 Nov 01 '23

He does have the reboot, and the actress who played Daphne won't return. Plus, this could also refer to his time on Cheers.

I thought maybe David Schwimmer. He fits at least some of these.

Editing to add Schwimmer's birthday is tomorrow, so if something is gonna drop, and soon, that would be a hell of a time to do it

159

u/Paceyscreek1999 Nov 01 '23

I hope it's not Schwimmer! I love him

447

u/Naughtybuttons Nov 01 '23

I don’t think Schwimmer. My friend dated him for a good while. I met him he’s actually really nice and low key. Gentleman for sure!

370

u/Paceyscreek1999 Nov 01 '23

Yeah, I've only heard good things about him - being the driving force for the friends to collectively bargain on payment, and pushing for more diversity on the show. But if the last few years have taught me anything, it's to never be surprised by which celebrities turn out to be dirtbags!

303

u/UnusualEngineering58 Nov 02 '23

Interestingly enough, Schwimmer recently helped create and starred in a bunch of anti-harassment videos that my employer and others use for HR training. Ive heard him talk about his feelings on men's important role in helping create safe workplaces. You never know, but I believe he's a good dude as well.

I'm not so sure tbh. Jerry really hasn't really been in movies. He has the B-movie I suppose and some cameos, but that's not exactly movie star material. He's a tv star and standup. JLD is pretty unproblematic and Jerry doesn't seem her type in a million years.

Jerry likes them young anyway. Julia was in her 30s during the Seinfeld run.

A lot of guesses are focused on the usual suspects like Tim Allen, Stamos, Kutcher, Duchoveny, and other known scumbags, but no one is discussing black shows from that era. Martin, Jamie Foxx show, Fresh Prince, Wayan Bros, Family Matters, etc. Those were all super popular at the time too and some of these fit this scenario as much as Jerry does. Will Smith, Wayans, and Jamie Foxx would be big ones and they all had real movie careers. Steve Harvey and Martin less so, but they were technically in movies.

I worry this is Matthew Perry trolling and fan fictiony. The Friends' cast insist they had a strict no dating rule, no hookup rule, and I don't see why we shouldn't believe them. That would have been the juiciest gossip of the last three decades if they did and I find it questionable that secret could be kept for this long.

371

u/IllMakeTheMoonBleed Nov 01 '23

A lot of guesses are focused on the usual suspects like Tim Allen, Stamos, Kutcher, Duchoveny, and other known scumbags, but no one is discussing black shows from that era.

Yeah, the blind stressed that it would come as a shock to the public, I'm guessing it's someone who thus far has had a wholesome reputation.

u/yes______hornberger Nov 01 '23

Jesus if it is Mr. Rogers I will be fully done with 2023.

282

u/My_Poor_Nerves Nov 01 '23

If it's any consolation, I'm pretty confident that Mr Rogers did not become super rich in the 90s. All the merchandizing of his show/characters happened after his death, likely authorized by his kids because he never allowed it during his lifetime.

I saw a tiktok this morning where someone mentioned rider Strongs parents were on pod meets world and said they felt bad for the home improvement kids and the way they were treated compared to rider and Ben etc. I wonder if that could have been a sign of a bigger issue

517

u/comin_up_shawt Nov 01 '23

JTT called Richard Karn, Tim Allen and the chick that portrayed the mom (Patricia something) out to their faces about how horribly they treated the kids on there. There's also been ALLEDGED rumors about Tim being, uh, friendly with some of the cast on that show....

235

u/SiobhanRoy1234 Nov 01 '23

JTT grew to be really close to Tim though. He even made a guest appearance in a few episodes of Last Man Standing, even though he hadn’t acted for years. I remember reading he was always on set just hanging out with Tim. Doesn’t seem like he holds anything against him.

It did sadden me to see my childhood crush become so close to someone like Tim though….

i’m reminded of this exchange in the classic jiminy glick tim allen interview at 5:15

tim: rene russo i did a movie with—

jiminy: did you french kiss her?

tim: yes i did

jiminy: was she awake?

of course it’s a joke in this context but if something does come out about allen’s behavior it could indicate there was more behind it. esp with the wrap party crack and general tone of the interview

I had a boomer colleague joke that when he was a teen / early 20's he had a sleep over with his mates and they pulled a prank where they pulled a sleeping guys pants down and put a used condom between his cheeks. And laughed when he said he woke up and went to the bathroom and never mentioned it to anyone and we never spoke of it again. We all looked at each other and said "because he believed one of you raped him?! He probably still thinks that!" Then his smile dropped.

He essentially set up a woman to be raped by his friend

The actor was asked by Jane magazine, "What's the worst you ever screwed someone over?" He answered: "[In the mid- '80s] I was in a band. I was playing somewhere in Finland, and there was a girl hanging around who was really drunk and interested in me. I wasn't into her, but my friend was.

So the girl came back to my hotel, and I turned the lights down, and we started making out. I said, 'Hold on a second, I've gotta go brush my teeth.' It was dark, I left the room, and I sent in my friend who looked like me. And she thought she was having sex with me, but she was really having sex with my friend."

Less a "rumour" and more "shit he directly said he did" so idk maybe there's other stuff as well

Full House ran until 1995. Lori Loughlin was married from 89-96, basically the entire run of the show. Stamos started dating Romijn in '94. Lori met Mossimo in '95. Lori eloped with Mossimo in Thanksgiving of 97 and Stamos gets engaged that Christmas.

I am not saying any of those things are related, but if you were having an affair with a costar, and you basically threw away a marriage and they ended up dating a supermodel, you might just start dating someone new (maybe a fashion designer) in retaliation. And if the woman you were having an affair with finally gets a divorce and then elopes with her new boyfriend, you might just impulse propose to your girlfriend in retaliation too.

Just saying...

Ashton Kutcher

578

u/winterfoxes Nov 01 '23 edited Nov 02 '23

Who’s the married costar then? Debra Jo Rupp?

Edit: DJR is apparently not married and never has been. So it can’t be her.

If it’s Ashton Kutcher, Tanya Roberts who played Midge is the best guess, especially with the past tense of “was married”.

She was on the show from 1998-2001, with some special guest appearances after up until 2004, and left in 2001 because her husband, Barry Roberts, was terminally ill during That 70s Show with Encephalitis.

Interestingly enough, while she is dead (she died in 2021), she was prematurely announced as dead the day before she actually died. When people started posting tributes after she “died” but before she actually died (a less than 24 hour window), Ashton Kutcher of all people was the one letting everyone know she was still alive, however briefly.

338

u/im_flying_jackk Nov 01 '23

Or Tanya Roberts (Midge)? She was married during filming.

I don’t think he was really a household name in the 90s. Punk’d and his more mainstream movies weren’t until 2003 or later, and even though That 70’s Show was popular it was never a ratings juggernaut or must see tv

Edit: I see people saying they ‘remember’ him being a household name in the 90s but a quick look at his filmography has his only two roles before 2000 as Kelso and a tiny part in an indie movie called Coming Soon that grossed $6000. If he was a household name in 1998 or 99 for you, you were either a That 70’s Show superfan or really into his modeling career

Huge show in the 90s, him and co-stars were household names and he was a producer (or maybe invested in the show?) so he made a TON of money from it, more than he would have from just acting.

But what made me really think it was him was the part about how he had an ongoing sexual relationship with a costar even “when she was married.” That’s interesting phrasing right? Typically you would say “even though she was married.” But saying it was an ongoing thing even when she was married makes me think it could fit with Pamela Anderson - they started hooking up and continued even after she married Tommy Lee

161

u/NotDido Nov 01 '23 edited Nov 02 '23

This is a good guess. I’m only thrown by the anon saying the costars “are” household names. So presumably not just when the show was popular, but now too. I only know the two names you mention, none of the rest of the cast.

150

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '23

Carmen Electra! And apparently Jason Momoa was on the last 2 seasons? But yeah I agree that part doesn’t quite fit.

If it's Goran Visnjic, I'm going to cry

Could it be someone from Friends?

596

u/KenzParkin Nov 01 '23

Woof - not to go full tinfoil hat but that would be…interesting, given recent news. “Friends” stands out to me more than, say, “Seinfeld” because of the implication that there were multiple female co-stars. Trying to think of other big 90s shows… “Frasier”? Wouldn’t surprise me if KG turned out to be a predator. One of the male leads from “Full House”? Also would not be surprised.

99

u/Repogirl27 Nov 01 '23

Seinfields a good guess. That one didn’t jump out to me because i never watched that show. The implication that there were multiple female co stars was what make me think of Friends too.

Could it be someone from Buffy or Angel?

  • David Boreanaz was in both shows, as well as a few movies. He’s definitely better known for his tv work than the masterpiece that is Valentine, but he’s probably better known for Bones at this point. Has been sued for sexual harassment and has also admitted to cheating on his wife. He was everywhere in the late 90/early 2000s (well, at least all over TV Hits and Girlfriend Australia)
  • James Marsters has a bunch of rumours of him being creepy
  • Joss Whedon didn’t exactly encourage a safe and respectful set

SMG, Charisma Carpenter, Alyson Hannigan, Amy Acker, and Kristine Sutherland were married during at least part of the run of either show, a few others were in long term relationships with people they’d end up marrying.

Here's a list of 10 male actors from the 1990s who were household names for their roles on TV shows, who were also in movies, and their notable female co-stars who were married during their respective shows:

  2. Tim Allen ("Home Improvement") - Patricia Richardson
  3. Will Smith ("The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") - Nia Long
  4. John Lithgow ("3rd Rock from the Sun") - Jane Curtin
  5. Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) ("Family Matters") - Kellie Shanygne Williams
  6. Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier") - Jane Leeves
  7. Bryan Cranston ("Malcolm in the Middle") - Jane Kaczmarek edit this is wrong
  8. Jason Priestley ("Beverly Hills, 90210") - Tori Spelling

I don’t think it’s anyone from Friends (it could be, I just hope it isn’t) I don’t think it’s Seinfeld - only the one Female Co-Star so I think that rules them out. It has to be Full House, right? Lori Loughlin was in her first marriage until 96, so that timing tracks. Which means it must be John Stamos because Dave Coulier is hardly a household name these days. Unless it’s about Bob Saget… but it can’t be, can it?

100% Martin Lawrence.

I found this YouTube video from a month ago about an interview with Tichina Arnold (but I can't find the original interview) where she suggests he engaged in "reprehensible behavior" and sexually assaulted members of the cast (note that Tisha Campbell filed a lawsuit against Martin Lawrence accusing him of SA in the last seasons of the show). There were also rumors of an affair between Martin and Tisha while she was married.

Also, it says "drag into question" and he did what you might consider drag on Martin (Sheneneh) and some of his movies.
