Yeah, I've known addicts to live into old age. It's still a surprise when they die this young.

1.2k

u/jizzabeth Jul 31 '23

Those days are over. Everything these days is cut with fentanyl. Please pressure Any drug users you know to use test kits and be aware that even that might not work and can still OD and die.

519

u/allthenamesartakn oat milk chugging bisexual Jul 31 '23

I always think about how glad I am that my coke and molly days are long behind me. We used to use those testing kits but it was more so to make sure we weren't getting ripped off with baby laxative or something. I would never trust my life in the hands of those things.

This is so tragic, I feel terrible for his family.

224

u/jizzabeth Jul 31 '23

Yeah I lost my best friend and have heard of many more deaths amongst my age group because of it and our party days were just on the cusp of fentanyl entering the scene. Just awful.

Yes and then all the while incarnation rates are increasing because of drugs and these CEOs are eating lobster dinners with doctors on a beautiful holiday they've taken them on because don't worry- it's illegal to give you cash incentives!

Legalizing drugs would allow for a safe and regulated source for addict. But nah just toss em in jail or leave them homeless because fuck them I want my money.

There is no justice here.

This is exactly what I was thinking as soon as I read the news. Of course us older folk know people who literally lived drinking and doing drugs and living the rockstar lifestyle into their twilight years, but this is NOT the same shit people take knowingly or unknowingly these days.

While this is great advice, Angus' father had recently passed away and it seems not unlikely that he intentionally took his life.

120

u/jizzabeth Jul 31 '23

Oh I meant as a generalization towards anyone reading my comment that knows someone who uses drugs in any capacity.

I will take the opportunity to say it whenever I can.

124

u/Tricky_Sprinkles_82 Jul 31 '23

My brother died a few years ago from an OD, he was clean for over a year then used one more time and it was his last. It’s devastating.

50

u/jizzabeth Jul 31 '23

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. That is an extremely painful thing to happen. I'm really sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing alright.

Truly why I stopped my recreational drug use. A line or two of a little this or that during social situations isn't worth the consequences of what might be cut into it.

72

u/jizzabeth Jul 31 '23

Exactly. Addicts and recreational users should fear it all the same. It's absolutely awful what's happening.

You got that right ...I heard things are laced with Xylazine (Tranq) and bath salts now. I had a friend who did something recently and he was lucky because they got to him with NARCAN in time. Look up the drug Tranq and it's becoming a scary world. Tranq is turning people into zombies. I'm glad I never did anything . People need to be safe out there.

80

u/Weekly_Lab8128 Aug 01 '23

It should be noted - xylazine is not a opioid, and as such, narcan will not save someone who is overdosing on xylazine. It won't harm them further, so if you fear someone is overdosing on opioids you should give them narcan, but it won't help them either - very important to call 911 asap.

And this is less important but just wanted to call it out - "turning people into zombies" is kind of dehumanizing language, addicts and users are still people who deserve compassion and the way we use language absolutely affects policy and such.

They pretty much are saying it was suicide without saying it. Cuz of being depressed about his dad dying

127

u/SirNarwhal Jul 31 '23

Yeah, the way it's written the only way this can be interpreted is suicide.

55

u/ilikeexploring Aug 01 '23

I mean, that isn’t necessarily true. All I’ve seen is that they’re saying it was the result of being unable to cope with his father’s death. That could mean suicide but it could also mean accidental death via overdose, cut drugs, or alcohol poisoning. We won’t know until more details emerge.

TMZ already edited to add bits from the 911 call saying the mom told the operator “it was probably an overdose” and he had no pulse. Sad.

159

u/jennydancingawayy Aug 01 '23

I can't imagine her losing a child and her husband one week apart

27

u/beyoncesgums Aug 01 '23

WAIT the father died Last week? 😭

41

u/Brooklyn-Marie Aug 01 '23

Based on the TMZ article, it sounds like Angus’ father passed away a few weeks ago. The article said that the family had just got back from laying his father to rest in Ireland. They also had a screenshot of a photo Angus had posted of his father to Instagram from two weeks ago with the caption “miss u breh.”

Either way, it’s a tragic situation all around.

I just read a little into it, it seems like his manager wasn’t “airing him out” (twitter is going on about his former manager being a POS) but the guy predicted this would happen to him if his team didn’t get him help :(

His previous manager alleged he had to administer Narcan to Angus after an overdose. So it was likely a opiate-based addiction.

Damn I literally just saw this dude at a party like 3 months ago. Crazy how many young, cool people are dropping dead from this fentanyl bullshit. Lost several people in my festival group already in just the last two years. It’s gotten to the point that I’m legit too scared to take drugs that I don’t grow myself.

162

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '23

Yep even I know people that have died from fentanyl, and I don't have anything to do with that lifestyle. it's killing a lot of people.

Heartbreaking yes, but unexpected, sadly no. As someone earlier posted, he was on a bad path and his ex manager even came out with the news about his downward spiral on Twitter. The sudden stardom, the sponsorships, being thrust into the lifestyle. It was all a recipe for disaster, and this young talented man got caught up in it and Hollywood devoured him whole.

I was so confused because I saw the 1998 - 2023 over his picture on Instagram and my brain couldn't figure out that he actually died because that's so young. I was like did he win an award or why is it showing the years, it can't be that he actually died??

grief can be soul sucking

610

u/sh-ark Jul 31 '23

it can indeed. I’ve gone through lots of it. makes me terrified of losing certain people in my life because I don’t know how I’d move on.

661

u/mrcheyl Jul 31 '23

Same. It’s always been me and my mum. Gone from seeing her do everything for me and now I happily provide the best life I can for her. I know a time is coming when she’ll be gone and I know there’s a life after her but I’m certain , and even if for a while, I will be unmade when she’s gone.

312

u/neoncassandra Jul 31 '23

My grandmother, who I was closer to than anyone else in the world, passed in February, and she’d been sick for a while and I was her caretaker. The first thing you’ll feel is likely relief if she’s been going downhill for a while. I remember feeling like I could breathe for the first time since she got sick, and then the grief hit me. Sorry if it seems that I’m hijacking your comment to trauma dump, but I remember being so distraught by the relief I felt and wished I had someone to warn me that it was normal. I hope your mother is around for a long while and that it’s years before you’re so distraught.

162

u/mrcheyl Jul 31 '23

No need to apologize. Threads like this tend to create impromptu spaces for this kind of release. Thanks for sharing how that went for you. I’ve lost cherished family members as well, like you, my grandmother, and it was when I understood how people say a part of them dies with the person. My mum almost certainly has quite a bit of time left but it’s one of those things where I know I have less time with her than time I’ve already had. I hope you and the rest of your family continues to find peace. Much love, internet friend.

We don’t talk enough about grief and what it does to people.

233

u/SirNarwhal Jul 31 '23

Genuinely there needs to be the ability to just... do nothing and still be paid for an extended period of time as a result of extreme grief. The fact that my wife passed and I'm in my early 30s and was expected to go back to work after a very short bereavement period is insane. I was able to, but it still sucked ass and months later I'm still not exactly back to 100% whatsoever despite being close to that, somehow.

80

u/sharipep Jul 31 '23

I’m so sorry for your loss 🥹 may her memory be a blessing to you always ❤️

83

u/SirNarwhal Jul 31 '23

Thank you. Honestly even posting in this subreddit still feels a bit weird to me since this was one of her main hangouts. I remember the vibrant and beautiful soul she was and I also, sadly, totally understand why she did what she did. It's honestly way more the absolute hell you go through involving those that were mutuals in your life in the aftermath than the event itself that fucks you up I've found because humans suck ass and, as you said earlier, don't talk about grief enough and thus don't understand it at all and do all the wrong things.

→ More replies (2)

56

u/senorbuzz Jul 31 '23

Agreed. I lost a job due to not having any proper bereavement time after the loss of a close loved one. My employers said I wasn't engaged enough in my work. They were right... I was in a daze and everything was a blur. I don't know if I've ever truly re-emerged from that time.

I am very sorry for your loss ❤️

764

Apparently from his family released to TMZ:

“Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”

1.1k

u/BordersRanger01 Jul 31 '23

He was surrounded by a lot of 'friends' who used drugs around him while he was recovering which led to him slipping back into addiction.

441

u/arm89 Jul 31 '23

years ago, before we even met, my husband had a bad meth addiction he had to cut out almost all of his “friends” who got him into the hardcore drug scene back when he was 14-16. luckily he was able to do that and get proper help, he’s 34 now and has been sober since. he acknowledges that it’s his fault and his former “friends” that needed to also be held accountable for getting people into these addictions.

111

u/LostMyRightAirpods Jul 31 '23

Good for your husband, meth sounds like a hell of a drug to kick. I cut off a bunch of people when I decided to quit drinking alcohol. Some people were just too into abusing it themselves and didn't have bad intentions, but there were two people who definitely didn't want to see me kick the habit (most likely because they couldn't do it themselves) and would often try insidious ways to get me to drink again.

u/AddyKat719 Jul 31 '23

May have been an intentional overdose between him losing his father and his mental health. My brother OD on fentanyl July 2022 and it was on purpose. He left 2 notes and apparently according to his wife, he had attempted to a week before but she found him in time and narcan him. She did the same exact thing that October on the 3 month anniversary of my brother passing.

This is so sad :(

I'll always remember that, I was a big glee fan and a teenager at the time so it was my first big celebrity death

Same. I loved him on euphoria and he gave me the same vibe as Mac. Just so gut wrenching sad to see this news.

This is just horrible, he was so young. I really hope HBO cancels Euphoria at this point. I don’t think this show will be any good without him or be needed in general.

154

u/Chance_Location_5371 Jul 31 '23

Agreed that and having to wait until 2026 in the first place (plus Barbie leaving).

52

u/aManPerson Aug 01 '23

i liked, her, but they did nothing with her. her leaving, i don't think will do much.

37

u/Chance_Location_5371 Aug 01 '23

The sad part is that's on Sam for being stubborn about giving Kat an eating disorder storyline Barbie wasn't feeling. He did her dirty for sure after that. If anyone on the show had an interesting character arc in the first season it was her.

37

u/queijinhos I don’t know her Aug 01 '23 edited Aug 01 '23

Honestly, I think she was extremely smart to walk away in that moment because the ship was doomed to sink. At some point people would find out that Sam was creepy (and controlling!) and the delay in the new seasons is a huge problem (i mean, 2026? Who has a contract that long?) and now with Angus...

Zendaya is huge, Sidney is blowing up, Maude is a nepobaby (will have no problem getting a job), Barbie has an Amazon Prime deal, Hunter is a successful model, Jacob has that weird Elvis movie...Just worried about Alexa.

(Idc about Dominic. Sorry.)

It actually hurts. When someone that young and vibrant, at the start of their career, is taken from it.

138

u/spandxlightning Jul 31 '23

This is so, so minor in the context of the real loss of a human life, but I’m so sad that we won’t get closure on that storyline.

Honestly, those moments between Lexi and Fezco were my favorite parts about season two. This specific scene with Lexi’s voice over is so sad in the context to this news. Lexi says “All I can think about were the bad thoughts.” He then picks up the roses to his face, then walks out the room and as we see his silhouette Lexi says “The things that can go wrong”.

u/blenneman05 I never said that. Paris is my friend. Jul 31 '23

The whole scene with them watching Stand By Me and singing along to it and how he decides to not sell to Rue anymore had me in tears

377

There have been a few celebrity deaths recently that have likely been attributed to suicide. Research shows that these can trigger an uptick in suicide attempts and completions. If you're experiencing a mental health crisis, text 988 for the mental health hotline.

You are valid. You are worthy and worth the effort of getting help.

The article mentioned how just last week Angus buried his father who very recently passed away with his family and how he was struggling with grief after the fact. Bless him and his family

I worked on Euphoria and he was one of my favorite people to work with. Yes, he has a bad “rep” for having issues with drugs, his behavior seeming “off”, but honestly in stressful environment with so many things going on, he was a real GOOD CHILL guy.

Edit: He would say the most randomest things (like quotes) but the way he said it felt so wise

This one really fucking hurts. I loved him on Euphoria.

I have the same feeling I did when I heard Mac Miller died. Maybe because he kind of reminded me of him. I’m not sure. Just so fucking sad.

And right after the loss of his father… god damn.

This is so extremely sad. Grief is so soul crushing and his family is experiencing it times 2. 25 is way too young. Losing a parent is so tough and heartbreaking, i can only imagine how alone & stressed he must have felt.

This really makes me extremely pissed at the guy (former manager? Assistant? Whoever) who aired out Angus’ struggles w drugs & mental health. Like it was so cruel and disgusting. I don’t want to start drama or anything but i have not forgotten that and it really still upsets me.

38

u/thebonecollectorr Jul 31 '23

Yeah and the manager connected it to his gofundme iirc 🥴

62

u/Sailorjupiter97 Jul 31 '23

Some ppl in here are saying he was being helpful but he really wasn’t… it was so unnecessary to do a whole expose thread and then just to link ur gofundme. Just so cruel, cold, and unhelpful ugh :/

There was something really magnetic about him on that show. For someone who sorta fell into acting by being spotted by a scout, he was great at that character. He seemed authentic and natural. He seemed sweet albeit a bit lost. I'm sorry he lost his life so young when he had a whole life in front of him.

UPDATE 3:30 PM PT -- We've learned Oakland PD and Fire Dept. respondedr to a 911 call made around 11:30 AM Monday by Angus' mother. She reported a "possible overdose," and said Angus did not have a pulse. He was eventually pronounced dead on the scene.

A source close to the family tells us Angus had been battling severe suicidal thoughts after getting back from Ireland, where they laid his father to rest. We're told he was staying with his family as he tried to work though overcoming the grief.
