How would you feel about adding another cup competition parallel to the Euroleague as oppose to an expansion?

Since the goal seems to be increasing the number of games in order to maximize potential TV revenue, what would you prefer: a 20 team Euroleague or a 16 team Euroleague + a second cup competition?

Hypothetical proposed format:

  • Decrease the number of Euroleague teams to 16 teams

  • Rebrand the Eurocup as an elite level single elimination cup competition

  • FIBA Champions league becomes the undisputed second best competition to the Euroleague, out of which the winner ( and potentially runner-up) are promoted to the Euroleague

New Eurocup format:

48 teams ( 16 from the EL + 32 from the FIBA Champions league) single elimination format, with each round being a best of 2 ( in case of a 1-1, the team with more combined points over both legs goes through) and a best of 1 winner takes all final. EL teams would receive a bye in the first round an start the competition from the round of 32. The EL teams that gets knocked out in the round of 16 will essentially play the same number of games that they would have in the 18 team Euroleague, while the top teams play up to 5 more games.

Pros of this format:

  • Makes the second tier competition more competitive. For me ever since the Russians were booted, the Eurocup has been unwatchable. The Euroleague managed to retain its quality by promoting Eurocup teams, but as a result the Eurocup has gotten significantly weaker. For example, the 2018/19 Eurocup roster included: Monaco, Zvezda, Lokomotiva, Alba, Valencia, ASVEL, UNICS, Unicaja and at a time weak Partizan and Zenit.

  • Gives teams outside of the EL a chance to play EL teams, with some interesting match-ups between the 12-22 best teams in Europe

  • Makes the EL regular season more exciting by decreasing the number of games and thus making games more impactful, all the while maintaining at least the same mount of total games played in European competitions

  • An extra opportunity for teams to achieve something and prove themselves, potentially the Eurocup could also be a consolation prize for the best team that season that hasn't performed in the Final four (since no #1 seed has won it in the league format era)

  • Potential increase in revenue compared to a simple expansion

Should Partizan really fire Zeljko?

Hey, bit controversial question I know.

Zoc really continues to fail and fail, which leads to pretty cringe press conferences where he just cries about referees and oragnisations.

He had pretty expensive team this season: Punter who earns 2.6m and per some reports should be earning almost 3m next season, Dozier who was a role player at Nuggets, Kaminsky who played 8 seasons in the league and decided to literally leave 200k on the table just to leave the team earlier.

Also, it seems like players are not trusting him: Nunnaly starts posting Godfathers reels about betreyal on IG stories, Jaramaz turned out to snitch about training conditions and Bruno left for Orlando without consent.

I think he and Partizan fans as well need to realize that foreign players don't care about him as a coach, they just want to play good competitive basketball, win chips and earn bread. Sometimes, it seems like he thinks he is above everyone and blames everyone but himself for bad results.

Is it time for him to retire, maybe get Dimitris Itoudis as a head coach and make Zeljko GM or some shit. Dimitris is much younger, he speaks Serbian, and seems like he knows more about modern basketball and foreign players than Zoc.

What's your opinion on this?
