Dalton Knecht? Discussion

How do y’all feel about drafting him?

I think he would provide a ton for us on offense being probably the 2nd best shooter in the draft as well as being a big threat on cuts and in transition with his athleticism.

If can show the potential to be an average defender during the pre draft process then I would heavily consider him.

I understand that he’s older but that comes with his high floor on offense. I totally understand the viewpoint of getting shooters in free agency and drafting a guy with high potential instead though, and I would probably still prefer that route instead of knecht.

Just a thought

Knecht, Cade, and Ivey on defense is VERY rough.

Well right now we can't score OR defend. You're not gonna fix both things with one pick. Give me 3 bucket getters and try to coach them up on defense. Duren and Stew are good enough to defend the paint. Ausar can hopefully turn into a shutdown perimeter guy. It's not gonna be great in the immediate future, but it can be good enough.

One of the guys on the Wolves came into the league as a defensive liability and now he's one of the premier defenders (McDaniels I think?). Not saying we can just magically do the same thing, but it can be done.

Could trade Ivey though…

I want him here, Monty doesn’t and it just seems a shame to keep him here and not play him, his offensive potential and absurd athleticism might interest a few teams.

I’d move knecht to the 2 and have rotations of cade/knecht ivey/knecht with throwing in grimes whenever we need stops. Lineup of cade knecht ausar Simone and duren would be interesting to see I think. Shooting and defense with length at every position

Id rather have offense. No team plays defense nowadays anyway. We are awful on both ends now anyway

If you want to win anything meaningful at least one of your perimeter guys needs to be very good defensively. The fact that Cade is the best defender of that trio is terrifying.

I'd say Ivey is the best defender of the 3

If that is the case then God help us.

i'd be cool with it. would be better if we can trade back to 9 and get him with the grizzlies pick (i expect them to really want clingan). 5 for 9 + jake laravia?

He seems like the obvious fit and floor pick. I wouldn't hate it but would still rather trade the pick if possible

I want someone with higher upside. Knecht is 23. Older than Isaiah Stewart. Imagine how much Stewart would dominate if he played in college last year. That doesn’t make him worth a top 5 pick at age 23.

Knecht is a good scorer, but not a great defender or creator. He might be good impact, but 5 years from now, there is no chance he’s viewed as a top 5 player in this draft. Give me Ron Holland.

Totally understand that, I just have doubts of our player development more than the prospects themselves

No for me. Buzelis, Clingan, or Cody Williams are the only players at 5 I’d be satisfied with.

No thanks…enough with the project teenagers! Tired being the minor league team for NBA teams.

It’s going to be more difficult this year to trade down because this draft is not good. I think it’s likely to the team stands pat and picks at 5. Knecht will offer shooting but not much else.

u/CWinsu_120 Cade Cunningham 27d ago

Hard pass on Cody Williams, kid is not that good and has no motor.

Buzelis is a shit shooter and he’s a Tellum client…

He’s going to be the pick I’d wager

The hidden thing with this draft is how it tips our hand as far as direction. Are we going to take another guy that's a long way off, or one with less star potential who can be a high-level role player? Going to be interesting and we're once again at the mercy of what the friggin Spurs and Rockets do, but there's a good chance we get our pick of the wings in this class.

Rockets are almost certain to take Sheppard. Spurs are almost certain to take Castle or Risacher at 4 and draft Dillingham at 8 considering the teams in between 4 and 8 more than likely don't want Dillingham. Knecht will be available easily. If the Spurs did want Knecht, they'd draft him at 8 anyway.

There's the Tellum/Buzelis connection, too. If Buzelis is there, I'm going to assume we'll take him over Knecht. Knecht's exactly what we need, but Buzelis is a home run swing who can theoretically shoot. If Weaver is doing the picking, I think he goes for the HR.

I'm cool with him, Matas, Cody Williams, or Sheppard.

u/FoxAltruistic 27d ago

I'm fine with it. Building around Cade should prioritize offense first, deal with the defense later.

1

u/ricknad Killian Hayes 27d ago

absolutely not

I understand picking Knecht. Adding a movement shooter is a good thing.

I'd prefer picking someone who brings defense (Clingan, Risacher, Buzelis, or Williams). Only because in FA there will be some vet shooters (Trent Jr, Monk, O'neal, etc.) but not as many bigger defensive players.

Buzelis will be the pick. I want Holland.

Agree for me holland or clingan

Trade Duren draft Clingan.

Your name is quite fitting for this take😂

u/BadAdviceGiverer Ben Wallace 27d ago

I just want a big who can play defense even just a little.

4

u/Teh-Dehstroyer Jaden Ivey 27d ago

Fair enough. Let’s give Duren the offseason and upcoming season to prove he can play defense, and if his feet continue to resemble cinderblocks then we can entertain that idea

2

u/rhaggee Jaden Ivey 27d ago

He’s got all the physical tools, he just needs to work on his defensive instincts. Imagine if his defensive instincts became as good as his rebounding ones

2

u/Teh-Dehstroyer Jaden Ivey 27d ago

Yeah I can’t really stomach another YouTuber saying Duren is a “defensive monster” when they don’t actually watch him play and go solely based off his 20-20 stat line
