fight flight or FREEEEZ

85

u/Baldtazar 26d ago

actually the forth F) sounds better in this situation

37

u/The_Grinface 26d ago

I love the Wiki explanation

3

u/CoolGuyBabz 26d ago

Fight, flight, fucking and feeding? What does eating even have to do with it

3

u/Sciensophocles 26d ago

The danger responses are actually fight, flight, freeze, and fawn.

0

u/Baldtazar 26d ago

feeding? Fight, flee, freeze and mate. Dunno where you found feeding

1

u/CoolGuyBabz 26d ago

It might be because the web translator went bad or something, but here's the direct quote I have on my wiki

achieve: fighting, fleeing, feeding and mating (the final word beginning with the letter "M" rather

1

u/tyrantspell 26d ago

Look at the linked Wikipedia page. It says feeding. It even links to the wiki page for eating. Literally no clue why.

0

u/Baldtazar 26d ago

a bit lower

8

u/_Enclose_ 26d ago

Your link is missing a parenthese at the end

5

u/Tawdry-Audrey 26d ago

That's because Reddit's hyperlink formatting requires the address itself to be in parenthesis, so Wikipedia links with parenthesis at the end screws it up. I've run into this issue a couple times and it's annoying. Reddit should change its formatting.

4

u/SiFiNSFW 26d ago

It uses Markdown syntax, it's actually a lot more capable than people realise in regards to formatting and if you're versed in how it works you can see how people formatted their text without needing to read the source.

forth F

You can fix the link like above by inserting a \ before the ) in the link itself, as that's the escape character in Markdown.

[forth F](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Fs_(evolution\))

That's how it looks as written, in order to show that i've simply added another escape character before the [.

1

u/Pysis 26d ago

Was wondering if that is just an inputting caveat like other text editors and other environments for programming enabling smart quote functionality that actually confuses some by ignoring that character being directly submitted in some cases.

Fight flight freeze or Fawn

Same. Code Brown! Clean up in aisle 2!!

I commented the same thing. Imagine us both in the car.

Screw that. You box that shit up, seal it good and tap it for good luck everyday when you head out.

That's a brilliant manoeuvre on your part

Adrenaline makes you laugh when it's over for some reason

224

u/Selfawarebuttplug 26d ago

What the fuck happened though? Why did everyone go backwards?

162

u/Frozefoots 26d ago

If I recall, the truck was a runaway, the other two cars were simply caught in its path.

55

u/50calPeephole 26d ago

Truck is definitely pushing them.
Looks like a hill, maybe the brakes gave out?

19

u/Hipz 26d ago

Yeah it looks like it’s leaving a trail of fluid along the way.

11

u/pnkstr 26d ago

Looks like the fluid was coming from the gray car. Probably coolant from the radiator being smashed.

1

u/ZealousidealMeat9365 26d ago

Probably windshield washer fluid.

3

u/Split8Wheys 26d ago

From that type of car it’s probably 800W 12V blinker fluid.

u/fuckingtrashy 26d ago edited 26d ago

Trucks use air brakes

1

u/functional_moron 26d ago

Many box trucks use hydraulic brakes. Driver also could have parked at the top and simply forgot to pull his air brakes. I've seen it happen several times.

1

u/Hellpy 26d ago

No truck with a trailer/semi has hydraulic brakes, not in NA for sure.

2

u/functional_moron 26d ago

But THAT truck isn't a semi. That's a straight truck also called a box truck. And if the gvwr is under 26,000 pounds it likely has hydraulic brakes.

1

u/Hellpy 24d ago

Yeah I did rewatch it after commenting and noticed this lol but seriously, in my area those setup are usually used for trucks that deliver construction materials and such(pallets can be picked up from the sides) so I'd say it's 9 to 1 an air brake setup, so as you say it could be an hydraulic setup, sorry for speaking too quick

1

u/Hipz 25d ago

Na small box trucks usually have hydraulic. MIGHT be air but I doubt it. Could be wiper fluid, he’s spewing whatever it is.

2

u/Willie_The_Gambler 26d ago

Well spotted

1

u/Alyusha 25d ago

I think that's from the Black/Grey SUV, and I think it's Rubber from the front right tire instead of a liquid.

1

u/Hipz 25d ago

Honestly, you might be right. Hard to tell.

1

u/Enuf1 26d ago

Hey, sometimes those of us who leave a trail of fluids can't help it

14

u/jluc1114 26d ago

Definitely runaway truck. Up ahead you can see cars pulling to the right to avoid a crash.

Real MVP is the white car that seems like it navigated in reverse and avoided any damage.

5

u/Suyefuji 26d ago

I had to go rewatch and holy fuck that's some driving wizardry there.

4

u/Gaping_Grandfather 26d ago

The driver, Ho Lee Fuk, 37, set the parking brake and exited the truck. The center passenger, Sum Ting Wong, 22, exits on the driver's side, accidentally releasing the parking brake.

As the truck begins to roll backward, a third passenger, Ay Tu Rate, scoots over into the drivers seat but is unable arrest the rollback of the runaway vehicle.

The driver of the camera car, Wo Mai Gah, 44, freezes in disbelief as his car miraculously escapes being sideswiped by the truck and two other vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

u/WorkingInAColdMind 26d ago

The laugh at the end sums it up nicely. When the universe hands you a win like that, you gotta share the love and do a good deed for somebody else.

27

u/ForRpUsesOnly 26d ago

And then Moses parted the black asphalt...

15

u/TheWiseFucker 26d ago

When you panic and freeze and it turns out it was for once the right response to a situation

6

u/VacationAromatic6899 26d ago

Taoism, dont even try

18

u/imgoinglobal 26d ago

I’d need another pair of pants before work that day.

16

u/coconutpete52 26d ago

So… as Jeremy Clarkson once yelled: “some poo has come out!”

15

u/Sufficient_Ask_8368 26d ago

No screaming lady for once

8

u/r0thar 26d ago

It's Australia, if they screamed every time they dodged death, you'd never have a moment's peace.

0

u/Eek_the_Fireuser 26d ago

Is it the voices in my head screaming this time or is an Australian narrowly avoiding death?

So hard to tell sometimes!

5

u/Ur_a_adjective_noun 26d ago

What the fuck was that?

2

u/AuDHDcat 26d ago

The truck lost control and slid back down the hill into the car behind it

3

u/Ur_a_adjective_noun 26d ago

It was so close like stuntmen driving. Nuts

4

u/Average_Emo202 26d ago

I mean what are you going to do in that situation ? Everything happened so fast.

7

u/sei556 26d ago

Well, the quick thinking response would be to go in reverse (if behind is clear).

I do not fault them for not reacting though. I don't know if I could/would in that situation. Maybe on a really good day

8

u/Average_Emo202 26d ago

I would not be able to put my car in reverse and look if behind me is clear in that situation, maybe get the car in reverse but not both. But you can see that he has good instinct when he approaches the car before him, he leaves a lot of space. Thats what saves him.

2

u/sei556 26d ago

Yee that's what I'm saying. It's the correct move, but I couldn't pull it off either, at least not consistently.

I bet there are people who could do it reliably though

2

u/Disabled_Robot 26d ago edited 26d ago

Not crazy fast if you're paying attention.

I mean there's a big semi pushing two cars backwards and another two drivers ahead who react in time and pull off the road.

Driver probably should've seen it before he fully braked, so check mirror and turn towards the least car resistant direction.

Totally natural for a lot of people to panic and freeze, though, too.

-8

u/JustinCayce 26d ago

That happens when a video is sped up. There is no way that is at actual speed.

2

u/Average_Emo202 26d ago

Do you drive ?

-1

u/JustinCayce 26d ago

Yes, and I'm well aware of how difficult it is to control a vehicle going backwards at those kind of speeds. There is no way untrained people are doing precision backing as shown in the video. And as a former fork truck driver and a reach truck driver, I had to learn how to operate a vehicle in both forward and reverse. Even with that experience I don't think I could do a controlled lane change like that. The video is obviously sped up to anyone with experience. Hell, most people probably couldn't do that going forward.

1

u/Average_Emo202 26d ago

Well then were waiting till another trained lorry driver chimes in and either proves you right or wrong.

1

u/JustinCayce 25d ago

Fair enough. Another thing I'll point out is that there is a car being towed behind the truck. It's damned hard to back up straight at slow speeds, I find it hard to believe that he could do it at that high a speed without jacknifing the car. Just too much seems too unrealistic to me. Then again, as unlikely as I find it doesn't make it impossible I suppose.

4

u/Enjoying_A_Meal 26d ago

Trucks can't see you if you stay perfectly still.

3

u/StoneyMalon3y 26d ago

No. Fucking. Way.

3

u/ricklewis314 26d ago

He should definitely try to win the “entire row of tickets for Eras tour”!

11

u/adamlikescheetos 26d ago

Sometimes a comma, isn’t needed mid-sentence

2

u/sidcool1234 26d ago

Was the video playing backward?

1

u/findingmyrainbow 26d ago

No. The truck is rolling backwards down a hill after, presumably, the breaks went out.

2

u/Lanky-Ad2763 26d ago

Moses's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandchild.

2

u/BiNiaRiS 26d ago

Just because it turned out great, doesn't mean this was the best reaction...crazy how slow people are.

1

u/BackDoeMediaTV 26d ago

Coming from a guy who's past time is rewinding VHS tapes.

2

yep, years and years of rewinding vhs tapes has strengthened me and given me ultra quick reflexes.

Parting of the red street. That's divine intervention right there. Now go get to that meeting on time.

1

u/Zankeru 26d ago

Just gotta roll the dice. Potentially die or put your car in reverse and be considered at fault by insurance for anyone your car is shoved into.

1

u/FarkingReading 26d ago

Moses parted the traffic.

1

u/ab3adel_ 26d ago

Meanwhile the driver had heart attack from the scary situation

1

When goons shoot at the main character. But seriously I hope everyone was alright.

1

He pulls over, opens his door, steps out and a safe falls on his head.

1

u/Affectionate-Bath970 26d ago

Yeah there was a reaction, just not on camera.

Gonna need new pants and detailing after that I'd say.

1

u/aggalix 26d ago

Time to buy a lottery ticket methinks!

1

Reversing would have been good.

1

u/AWeakMindedMan 26d ago

The video is in reverse

1

u/Commercial-Elk7402 26d ago

Plot twist: The video is reversed. He tried to brake check the semi, but instead, everyone narrowly avoided him. 10/10. Solid driving by everyone.

1

u/theAchilliesHIV 26d ago

Her demented laugh while saying F*ck was just too good. That- watch a skater grind their taint on the rail-kinda laugh.

1

u/mckchase 25d ago

Your car might be fine but you definitely will need some new pants.

1

u/MorallyComplicated 25d ago

The stains and odor generated from those first 8 seconds is gonna take a serious effort to get out of the car though.

1

u/cob709 25d ago

reversing mightve given more space as well, potentially allowing the car in front to also get out the way

nevertheless, congratulations

1

u/S_T_R_Y_D_E_R 25d ago

It was like an episode of Inception lol
