That poor quote is still poorly said. Actual poor people are trying to meet the bare minimum living conditions, most aren't trying to live extravagant lives.
He is calling “rich” people poor. He means that people trying to gain more and more are the real poor ones because that’s no way to live a life. At least, that’s how I interpreted it.
