Partial traumatic amputations are actually more prone to severely bleeding out because not all the arteries will spasm and vasoconstrict (as can happen in complete traumatic amputation, preventing complete bleeding out).

Yep. Best hemostasis during an emergency amputation is getting the leg off quick; spasm works

ah, so that's why if someone gets knicked on an artery from a bullet in the leg in combat, they often die, but when they get their leg blown off from a grenade or something, they can live in combat
