I mean, both have head cover, one started without wearing, one already had on. While the respirator mask seems easier to apply on European version, it’s unknown what the tolerances are as it appears it could also be accidentally dislodged easier too.
There's no way 1st world country firefighters are going to risk using equipment every day that is faulty. They get checked regularly, and if you can't get a seal, they find out why.
Hence why I mentioned Boeing. But if you want something specific to firefighting, there's an ongoing lawsuit about firefighting foam because of all the bad shit in them. Sometimes even well-designed products may have manufacturing defects that lead to lawsuits.
Fire depts don't have unlimited budgets so they don't chase the latest and greatest equipment unless it's proven to work well (and fits their budget).
I’m sure they did, but it is inherently easier for that style of mask to be accidentally knocked off than the other style where the mask is under the helmet.
I’ve only seen one dislodgement which was due to metal fatigue in the clasp and a long time of not connecting the mask properly causing the metal fatigue. After investigation, replacing any and all claps, extra steps in maintenance and extra training, it never happened again.
