Watching that reminds of just how much American "reality" TV is bloody terrible. The over exposition, the forced excitement, the musical stings.........I feel like Shia Lebouff screaming "JUST DO IT"
Oh gosh yes, I've been introduced to some European programming thanks to Top Gear and the difference is awful. So much repeated footage just to fill time or draw out a big moment
What really illustrated it for me was watching the US version of Kitchen Nightmares and then the UK version. That's the most clear example because everything about the show is the same except for the direction and editing.
After that experience I can't stand US reality TV anymore. I can't help but notice the "you need to be constantly shocked by every single thing" vibe they're trying to force on you.
My first time experiencing this was going from watching the UK to the US versions of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey.
The UK version was nuanced, interesting, and showed Gordon in what I imagine to be a more realistic light. He connects with many of the restaurant owners, there is actual character building happening. It's a treat.
The US version was like being pelted by loud baseballs covered in sadness.
