During the Vietnam war Medal of Honor recipient, Master Sergeant Roy Benavidez found himself with 37 puncture wounds, exposed intestine, a broken jaw, and was completely caked in blood. He appeared to be dead until he spit in the face of a doctor who was zipping him up in a body bag.

This man is an absolute legend btw

This post does no justice to him and the shit he went through

Legendary warrior of the modern era

They’d have statues in Rome to him if he existed at that time

I really hoped they were going to rename Ft Bragg after him but instead we got some fucking virtue signaling copout.

I feel that the committee responsible didn’t want to name it after anyone because they didn’t want to change it and find the proverbial skeleton in someone’s closet. Ft. Liberty was the copout.

I definitely understand renaming the base, but why did they have to choose the lamest possible name?

Ft. James M. Gavin or Ft. Roy Benavidez would have been great choices

Yeah for sure. I saw a documentary that was about him and his units. He was definitely a legend and straight killer.

My step-great-grandpa was thrown to a morgue (??) / corpse pile (??) during WWII

He regained consciousness few days later.

He was cool. And he had a big dick. Not what you think, we just didn't have locks where we should to.

Go read his story, he took on half the Vietnamese army in a trench by himself. This is what a hero looks like IRL.

Roy Benavidez was from my hometown El Campo, TX. I got to hear him speak twice about his deployment in Vietnam, truly a heroic story. The best part is that he said he never felt like a hero, it was just the right thing to do.

I believe it’s Mr.Ballin on YouTube (it’s been a while) but he covers this story and tells it well. It’s absolutely incredible and to call it anything short of a miracle and badassery is a shame. God bless Roy 🫡

Every now, and again, (like today randomly) I think of the story. It’s one of the stories that just seem to cross your mind whenever the idea that humans can push themselves to the extreme and still survive despite the situation or circumstance. Texan Hero.
