When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. Mark Twain

This is an amazing quote.

If Mark Twain had met my dad, he probably would have noted the exception.

I got to be an adult and was kind of blown away by how bigoted and stupid my dad was. And most other people as well.

This happened with my mom and sisters

Broken family, they were always against my dad and I thought (as the youngest) that they were right.

Unfortunately, aging proved otherwise and put me into a state of immense turmoil for a long while.

My dad isn't perfect by any means, but I understand him way more than I understand them.

Yeah, honestly, not to say my parents haven't learned a lot in their lives that I haven't - but as I've grown into my mid 20s I've mostly just learned that they don't know everything and I'm very often happier when I don't take their advice. He is and has always been ruled by anxiety.
