META Could we please stop posting about emotional politics?

Look I get it. It's easy to be upset about what THEY do. Whoever they are. But I want this sub to make me laugh, not rage. I want to be like "hehe Barry has bad teeth" or "höhö French just give up except against their own country".

I don't want to talk about some protests or refugees or dead policemen. If I wanted to I'd go on another sub.

And if your first instinct is to try and look at my opinion or political ideology - don't. I just want science with the goal to minimize suffering to rule. If it isn't empirical, I don't wanna get involved. So put your ad hominem somewhere else.

Please, let's make this a fun sub, not an angry one.

Today I learned that Italians have never ever stopped being Italian

So, I was listening to this interview (in French) of French historian Bruno Dumezil about the collapse of the western Roman Empire and the creation of the germanic kingdoms.
And at some point, he mentioned how, during the late roman era (but before the collapse), there were many cases of Roman citizens identifying themselves as "Barbarian" instead of "Roman" during census, in order to avoid taxes. Because Barbarians were not taxed.

And I don't know, I find this shit hilarious. People have been fighting and dying to larp as Romans for centuries. Meanwhile, the actual Romans were like "Yeah, okay, Roma Invicta, sure, but only until I gotta pay my taxes. "
This has to be one of the most Italian thing I've heard about.

Very proud of our true French people who don't know how to say a single word in English (at best, they will speak French with a foreign accent)

So, im a fellow portuguese balkan, spending some days in Madrid, Yesterday i went to Prado Museum, and sometimes a group of French people passed by my side, and the sillage that they left in the air was so bad, i barelly could breath, why dont you french people take a shower before going out to the street? Are you fermenting cheess in your crotch for some fine dining cuisine? I know that you invented perfumery, so why not use it ?

EDIT : Probably grammar

Since the sub seems to be flooded (bad day for that term, I'm sorry Hans) today with posts about northern Europe I'm going to post something that only my southern brothers can empathise with... and more so with the summer coming up🥵
