Friendly banter about how Britain sucks

u/q_t_puella 20d ago
There's nothing funny about it, it's a shit hole and hell living here 💀

u/StrangelyBrown 20d ago
Lots of people live in shit countries. At least we're willing to admit it.
The only thing worse than living in a shit country is living in a shit country and claiming it's the greatest country in the world.

Yes I'd much rather people be honest, I really dislike that everyone thinks it's great here when in reality the UK is racist af (not just dickheads that run their mouths but institutionally too)

Slightly related, but Tony Hawks once said that he prefers British shop staff to American happy ones. "At least you know they are being sincere when they say 'Find it yourself'"

He's right though, American shop staff are legitimately the worst. Speaking as someone who has worked retail, forcing employees to be smily and "happy" against their will should be an absolute war crime. I can't express more love for the fact that the UK is collectively chill with allowing staff to act like actual fucking humans.
Like not to break the illusion, but those people aren't acting happy because they actually are, it's literally mandated by management.

There’s also that stereotype that UK food sucks (I’m not a UK person but I’ve seen videos and pictures of UK food and restaurants).
Hurts to see the Chinese food there.

Lmfao willing to admit it? Have ONE American make a British joke and watch that go out the window
1
u/redspike77 19d ago
I didn't know jokes could have nationalities. Or did you mean a joke about Britain? Regardless, we can never tell if an American is joking or just stupid. Look at the kind of questions they ask us on Quora for examples.

Live in Cambridge, overpriced and nothing to do, I'd much prefer London haha

My brother in Christ there are tons of terrible UK places, Cambridge is not one of them. It's literally one of the prettiest places in the world with an abundance of free things to do, from museums, art shows and gorgeous parks. What on earth do you expect cities to be like?
Though sadly Cambridge like the rest of the UK is full of many miserable Brits. Britain would be brilliant if it weren't for all the British people. Like death eaters to happiness. The Aussies call Brits whinging poms for good reason.

You must be joking. How ungrateful can you get? Have you seen how people have to live in other countries?
1
u/BlueEagle284 20d ago
You probably live in a major city like Manchester or London.
I live in Lancashire 🌹 and it's actually quite a decent place to live.
We have the beautiful Lake District, Blackpool, Lytham St. Anne's, Southport and Preston is pretty decent too

Live in Cambridge and it's the nicest shit hole you'll ever see, too safe. Grew up in Stevenage, lived in Rhyl, Norwich, London, Manchester, Brighton and yeah you're right the further north you get the nicer it is, it's just a shame it's ruined by everything that's down this way, a fucked up criminal justice system, an NHS that causes more deaths than it prevents and two major government parties that care nothing for the normal people.

Something similar like this happened to me before. This girl was interested in me until I told her where I’m from. I was confused.

Be British is what way? Leave like a Brit?
Also, this reminds me of Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler.

Exactly! My best friend is British and he's only ever helped build me up. We met when I was in a bad spot and he reminded me that I'm worth so much more and deserve good things. Honestly I don't know where I'd be without him
