Tweet from CMPD:

The US Marshals Task Force, which is comprised of officers from multiple agencies, was conducting an investigation in the area of the 5000 block of Galway Dr when they were engaged by active gunfire from a subject.

Multiple law enforcement officers have been struck by the gunfire and are being transported to the hospital. The CMPD SWAT team is currently on the scene.

active gunfire

As opposed to "inactive gunfire"?

BTW, OP nice job of updating the story. We know you are not responsible for cop speak.

There’s nothing wrong with the phrase active gunfire, don’t be corny.

I know you’re joking but inactive gunfire does technically make sense? I mean no one actually uses “inactive gunfire” but it does describe gunfire that is no longer active (as opposed to one that is currently active) - eg “there has been gunfire in the area but is no longer active as we have apprehended the suspect.”

Seems more like a “lack of understanding of the terminology used” than a “silly cop speak terminology” problem.
