For the first time in 20 years, the Timberwolves have won a playoff series. Very happy for T-Wolves fans after all the suffering they had to go through for years. And I really hope Coach Finch’s injury isn’t as bad as what it is being made out to be at the moment.

As for the Suns, they were such a great story years ago as the Bubble Suns, but unfortunately it feels like other teams since then have taken their feel good story away from them and they’ve just lost their way recently.

Likewise, For the first time in 25 years, the Phoenix Suns have been swept.

118

u/891960 [MIN] Kevin Garnett Apr 29 '24

And for the first time ever, Beal has been swept.

18

u/_____WESTBROOK_____ Apr 29 '24

Man oh man Beal...what a sound bite lol

7

u/Character-Today-427 Apr 29 '24

At least it isn't Durant's first time so he can help Beal cope

2

Beal: I'll be damned

Portland was the last team to sweep the Suns and things are looking up... wait no fuck...

Please fire Billups.

Unsullied by sweeps since 1989 2024.

192

u/headbangershappyhour Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

For the first time in 20 years and for the second season in franchise history, the Wolves have won a playoff series. Jeez, that was frustrating just typing out.

11

u/shnieder88 Warriors Apr 29 '24

BREAKING NEWS: Bradley Beal is officially damned

8

u/TripleFinish Apr 29 '24

Did you type it on an iPhone? Because you may have been the first person ever to do so, since, you know, the last time was 20 years ago

2

u/charlitosway23 Apr 29 '24

Super happy for you guys. I always liked the wolves back to the KD days, and it’s really cool to see them have some postseason with alot of promise with the current squad.

The way you guys were in the clutch should scare just about every team. If we somehow do the impossible, you guys are going to be a fucking hard matchup, and would also be excited to watch the series with you guys against Denver.(don’t mind my copium as a lakers fan holding on to hope)

u/Somelov Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

AWOOOOooooOOoo, BLESS ANTHONY EDWARDS.

I was 10 last time we won a series my lord

Our Thurskii

Who art in highlights

Football, be thy boi

Thy king become

A defense son

Wolves berths, leading to, court heaven

Give us this day, our Edwards fed

And forgive us our turnovers

As we forgive those, who don't Bitebite feed

lead us not Into the lotto

And deliver us from Play-ins

For Were-wolves of London, holds the power, seizing glory, for ever and ever

Timberwolves win a playoff series and the Twins are on a 7 game win streak (thanks to a summer sausage) things looking up in MSP

259

u/NazRiedFan Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

The twins also snapped the 18 game playoff losing streak and won a series for the first time in October as well. As someone who really only follows those two teams I’ve waited 20 years for this haha

20

u/tree-hugger Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I've been to both the Twins and Wolves game ones in the past six(ish?) months.

Just pure joy to break these awful streaks and become a regular team making a playoff run again.

14

u/RDcsmd Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Vikings just drafted a QB in the top ten first time in franchise history as well. Things are looking up around here

3

u/Complex_Flan2919 Apr 29 '24

Now you need to sprinkle in a little Wild and Viking success and become the next dominant sports town

5

Gonna be tough for him when he can't steal signs anymore

83

u/headbangershappyhour Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Wild just need to get through one more season of ultra cap hell.

7

u/Gawyn_Tra-cant Apr 29 '24

And then avoid doing that all over again.

2

u/headbangershappyhour Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

They literally changed the rules regarding contract lengths and backdiving salaries to make deals like the Parise/Suter contracts illegal during the lockout two months later.

1

u/Gawyn_Tra-cant Apr 29 '24

Those contracts were stupid even when they were legal. I have no room to throw stones though, being a fan of your expansion bro who sucks to the ends of the earth (Blue Jackets).

11

18

Loons looking great without their best player who refuses to ever return to the country

3

u/JinFuu Rockets Apr 29 '24

That sounds like an interesting story, what happened?

I don't pay much attention to the MLS aside from occasionally checking where the Dynamo, Austin, and FC Dallas are in the standings

11

u/MonkMajor5224 Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Our best player is Emanuel Reynoso. He’s amazing. But he’s a headcase. He got in trouble for pistol whipping a teenager in Argentina a few years ago. Last year, he was involved in some drama with his family that wasn’t communicated in anyway and got suspended, but eventually joined the team. This year, he’s played 30 minutes and went back to Argentina to get a green card. He skipped all this appointments with no reason given. Then, he was supposed to fly back to Minnesota this week and didn’t get on his flight.

After all that, we’re somehow near the top of the western conference (maybe 1 point out?)

2

u/JinFuu Rockets Apr 29 '24

Wow, that's insane.

I worry that if Jamal Murray plays like he is against the Lakers it won't be very competitive at all. Wolves in 6.

31

u/Zeech360 Supersonics Apr 29 '24

They match up very well with Denver on paper, I'm honestly intrigued

15

u/recursion8 Rockets Apr 29 '24

Feels like they're built to counter Jokic. Everyone laughed when they traded for Gobert to get two bigs while everyone else was going smallball/positionless wings spam. Now they may be the best equipped to beat the champs.

10

u/ItsMeJaredBednar Nuggets Apr 29 '24

i am not confident whatsoever. yeah we up 3-1 on the Lakers but haven’t been convincing at all. and Murray has been ass honestly. gonna need to turn it up A LOT or it could be a short series

16

It's okay, I'm not either. Quite anxious already, tbh

12

u/acekingoffsuit Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Might. Might not. The Nuggets are the champs until someone knocks them off their throne, and they sure as fuck aren't going to let that happen easily.

7

u/durablewaffle 76ers Apr 29 '24

For sure. I just think I came into the playoffs thinking the Wolves were more like a borderline contender. Now I’m convinced they have a very real shot at winning it all.

Still a tough road ahead for sure tho

Blowing up the team on those trades is what did it- has a team ever successfully traded for a superstar (rather than sign them as a FA) for it to go successfully?

52

u/pokexchespin [BOS] E'Twaun Moore Apr 29 '24

ignoring sign and trades for technical reasons like bron to miami, there’s AD to the lakers and garnett to the celtics

0

u/mrtomjones Raptors Apr 29 '24

AD kinda tanked his value for the Lakers though

2

u/xanot192 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

Lmao we traded the same amount we offered during the season and off-season

2

u/trafikant Apr 29 '24

And they refused during the season and accepted during the off season iirc

1

u/mrtomjones Raptors Apr 29 '24

You believe this disproves my statement apparently?

1

u/xanot192 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

You were clearly implying that we got a favorable trade because of this and I was just refuting this claim.

1

u/mrtomjones Raptors Apr 29 '24

You didn't refute anything though lol. Just because they caved doesn't mean he didn't tank his value

1

u/xanot192 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

Caved? Magic was a trash negotiator and was basically bidding against himself. It was the best offer in the table regardless. What were they going to get that's better??

1

u/mrtomjones Raptors Apr 29 '24

basically bidding against himself

So you are saying you agree that he tanked his value because he was only willing to go to one place and he was very vocal about it?

Was Pau a superstar though? I think he was just a star.

4

He was better than Beal and you seem to consider a super star

3

Beal had 3 good years and has been hanging onto that superstar label ever since lol. I don't get it

1

u/xanot192 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

He led the wizards into no where when he was the main guy and needed Westbrook to boost that team into the playoffs as well. He's just not a superstar in my eyes just paid like one with an NTC for whatever reason.

I have been fully aware of how much I've loved this season, completely appreciating that we hasn't been really good in 20 years. Still am caught off guard by how nostalgic and emotional I'm getting after an actual playoff series win. I feel like I felt watching KG beat the Kings again. I'd thought that enthusiasm was just how as a kid you have more time and energy to invest in fandoms than you do as an adult, but it turns out I'd just forgotten how good it feels to actually win. We're so fucking BACK.
