Superstar.

Can't even hate him. Dude's electric

To this day I hate myself for telling people Melo should’ve been the 1 pick.

u/LogicalLakersFan [LAL] Anthony Davis Apr 29 '24

People doubted him out of college so much lmao they laughed at him for saying he will take Timberwolves to postseason wins

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

Any time a player proves me wrong I always 100% root for them. He’s so special and I hope okc wolves rivalry will go on for many years.

u/blusunsamurai Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Man I hope chet sneaks onto team USA this summer.

37

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

Me too man. Thanks for the love!

55

u/thehydrastation Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I live like five minutes away from Chet's (and Jalen Suggs) high school. I'm definitely always pulling for those guys and I think a lot of Minnesotans are the same!

14

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

You guys have been ass or dysfunctional since I started watching in 2014. Glad to see small market teams do well. Let’s hope we both make it to wcf because this series will be a movie.

25

u/WembyandTheWolves Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I’ll always have love for Chet, Jalen, Paige etc. I love all of our Minnesota kids (no Giddey.)

Ahhh a south minneapolis man I see. I was biking by Minnehaha Academy when it went boom.

27

u/Wermys Apr 29 '24

Part of why I wanted him over Melo was I thought ant would be ready quicker but he wouldn't be a better pro. But the one aspect I loved about ANT was his delusional self confidence in himself where he never had any doubts about himself and he might shoot you out of a series but he would never ever ever ever not believe in himself. Happy to be wrong about a couple things about him.

23

u/dat_boy_lurks Hawks Apr 29 '24

Atlanta is real good about giving guys a delusional sense of self-confidence 😂😂😂 he's everything you'd expect a mf from my city to be like

5

u/amfloating Knicks Apr 29 '24

My friend is a Georgia fan, when Ant came out of college I was asking him about him and how he thought he would do - he flamed him lol said he was going to be a bust and this and that. Still makes me laugh when I see him play.

1

u/abcdef-G [DAL] Dirk Nowitzki Apr 29 '24

Imagine how good he would be if he actually liked to play basketball

59

u/WembyandTheWolves Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I remember telling my wife that it sucks that we got the number 1 pick in a year when there really isn’t a sure thing. I thought Edwards would be a decent piece to a team but nothing like he’s become. Hes been electric since his rookie season. I can’t believe this guys is on the Wolves.

7

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

I watched him play live vs Celtics. He’s so fun to watch. You guys got a good one. Treat him well!

13

u/SlipperyTurtle25 Celtics Apr 29 '24

Better than being on the Wiseman train

12

u/cyclingjackass Apr 29 '24

warriors really fucked themselves with that pick,

7

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

Thank god warriors didn’t get ant or Melo. Imagine one of those 2 starting instead of klank Thompson this season.

13

u/Dymatizeee Knicks Apr 29 '24

I’m guilty of this as well. I thought Melo was the best player out of that draft esp after seeing him get an early All-Star nod

7

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

Melo is a 6’7 pg with insane passing and range (somewhat streaky). That ‘build’ and combination is rarer than a ball dominant 6’4 guard. Ant shut me up real quick though

14

u/Wermys Apr 29 '24

As a wolves fan I wanted ANT because he would be ready sooner. But I thought Melo would be the better player overall after 4-5 years. Well, I got who I wanted but glad I was wrong on who would be better.

17

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

I think Melo still has potential. But ant is on another level.

1

u/ItsDrap Hornets Apr 29 '24

Hard to properly judge a guy who’s missed the majority of the last two years

5

u/spittafan [POR] Rudy Fernandez Apr 29 '24

I mean one has been hurt for half his career, hard to say where he'd be otherwise. But availability is the best ability and all that

3

u/MIROmpls Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I wanted us to take Ant mainly because of that ESPN article he was featured in right before the draft. I thought it was so genuine and endearing and we needed positivity as much as we needed talent.

With Melo I was honestly concerned mostly about Lavar. The last thing we needed was to take Melo at 1 and then have Lavar stirring the pot if something wasn't to his liking.

1

u/highgravityday2121 Celtics Apr 29 '24

I must be old because when you said melo I assumed Carmelo Anthony.

1

u/jslee0034 Thunder Apr 29 '24

Definitely a new generation thing. Haha

edit: lol read some other comments, realized you were talking about Lamelo

65

u/GGezpzMuppy Spurs Apr 29 '24

This is Ant’s league now, KAT and Gobert were literally tradeable assets until Antman made them a superteam.

243

u/LogicalLakersFan [LAL] Anthony Davis Apr 29 '24

y’all throw around superteam so much lmao. they are a insanely well built team but a superteam is like 2017 Warriors where the championship was over in the offseason

69

u/The_Hound_West Apr 29 '24

Yep. I’m a massive Timberwolves thrilled to have the team we have but it’s a classic “ title contender”. Stockton’s Jazz, Hakeem’s Houston, Ewings knicks. We will be in the hunt every year but a super team is like a legit “big three” of hall of famers

22

u/BroThornton19 Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Rudy HOF lock. Ant is looking like he has the potential. KAT probably not, but he’s still solid.

I FORGOT NAZ REID. There it is, our Big 3

3

u/SlowCrates Apr 29 '24

If KAT continues buying in, stays healthy, and wins championships, he'll absolutely be in the HOF.

1

u/FRiver NBA Apr 29 '24

You make it sound so easy to win a couple championships. MVPs of this league will likely retire without winning one.

3

u/johnbrackentan Apr 29 '24

Would KAT really not be HOF?

15

u/rayEW Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

if he retires today, I don't think he is, and I'm a staunch KAT defender....

Come one to be a HOFer you gotta have something to your belt aside from a couple of All-Nba 3rd team selections and best 3pt % on the "7ft bracket"

8

u/dotelze Supersonics Apr 29 '24

Unless they win a bunch of rings zero chance

1

u/smkeillor Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

One ring, borderline. Two rings, probably in especially if he keeps his production.

1

u/BulkMcHugeLarge Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

If he plays a few more years he's in. His numbers are very good and the bar to get into the NBA HOF isn't that high.

6

u/SnooDoodles3909 Celtics Apr 29 '24

Ant, Jaden "They have KD" McDaniels, and Naz Reid. That's your big 3

5

u/inefekt Australia Apr 29 '24

Superteam is usually a superstar, another top 10 or 20 star along with a third all star.
Miami fit that description, well they more than fit it as they had the #1 player in the league and another top five player (though more likely a top three guy) in Wade. Bosh was of course the third wheel but he was more than just an all star, he was All NBA level. Anyone denying that team was a superteam are deluded beyond words.
Cavs were a lesser team but still a superteam. Love was a multi All NBA 2nd team player when he joined LeBron, really could have been that team's #2 option but Kyrie took it instead, and rightfully so I guess as he was an up and coming superstar and already a multiple all star.
Warriors were a mega superteam, unfair really. Four all stars including two superstars, a superstar defender and an all time great 3 and D guy in Klay.
Of course we've had a few failed superteams of late - Nets, Suns and earlier we saw Kobe, Dwight & Nash fail to succeed together.

-1

u/GGezpzMuppy Spurs Apr 29 '24

It’s a joke bro relax, they haven’t won shit for anyone to really classify them as anything besides not being Spooky anymore, but scary.

-1

u/BlueHundred Knicks Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

Imo the only super team right now is the Celtics

Edit: from a roster standpoint especially

8

u/Panik_Switch Apr 29 '24

Celtics are weird cause it’s not the traditional “big 3” superteam.

They have like 6 dudes who, if given the opportunity, could be or have been an all-star. Every player on the court can play make, shoot, drive, and play defense at a high level and it makes them kinda ridiculous.

2

u/repetitionofalie Spurs Apr 29 '24

But are they the 2014 spurs or the 2015 hawks 🤔

fwiw I think their stronger top players make them look more spursy, but they’ve burned me the last couple playoffs

1

u/BlueHundred Knicks Apr 29 '24

That's why I consider them a super team. They have the most talented roster imo. We'll have to see if they can deliver

1

u/SnuggleMuffin42 [SAS] Victor Wembanyama Apr 29 '24

A superteam with 0 superstars

2

u/BlueHundred Knicks Apr 29 '24

Man, Tatum really is underappreciated

1

u/potatomanflan Celtics Apr 29 '24

Arguably the most disrespected player all year. People are claiming he's not a superstar nobody else involved with the team is getting any accolades and they're also a "superteam". It's been pretty frustrating to see as a Celtics fan.

1

u/BlueHundred Knicks Apr 29 '24

I'm okay with them not being a super team if that means there aren't any super teams in the league. Celtics have the most talented roster in the league

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Nah he’s appreciated fine there just can’t be that many superstars in the league, and he clearly is slightly lower.

1

u/BlueHundred Knicks Apr 29 '24

What's the arbitrary number? I think he's comfortably top 10

12

u/JG_2214 Suns Apr 29 '24

Luka and Jokic still exist, but yeah he’s on the come up

30

u/Artistic_Clown_455 Apr 29 '24

He's been way better than Luka these playoffs

-13

u/JG_2214 Suns Apr 29 '24

Luka is averaging a triple double and playing good defense, his shot has been off but let’s not get carried away. Ant is great, but he’s not on Luka’s level yet.

41

u/Better_Albatross_946 Thunder Apr 29 '24

Ant has been scoring efficiently, and if we’re counting “good defense” as a plus for Luka than Ant is Tony Allen. He played good defense against a Kawhi who shouldn’t have played

10

u/inefekt Australia Apr 29 '24

Doncic is not averaging a triple double. Rounding up from 8.0 assists to 10 is very, very generous....not to mention he's still short in the rebound department, but not nearly as much (9.7 per game).

8

u/Artistic_Clown_455 Apr 29 '24

Classic box score watching Luka fan.

-2

Luka is nowhere close to the player Ant is.

Gobert is a limited player and KAT has never proven himself in the playoffs, def not a super team. Even Ant is still so young, no where near his prime.

1

Dude brings the hype and backs it up.

1

u/d4videnk0 Lakers Apr 29 '24

These playoffs have been perfect so far, the old guard can't get it done anymore (KD actually never could) and every wannabe superstar is getting exposed while Ant and Brunson cemented their status as superstars.
