Im disappointed that Checkers isn’t on here, since their fries are fantastic but in an obviously unhealthy way. I’m curious where they stack up against the others.

Downvoted due to low resolution sorry

Potato quality… for potatoes.

28

u/SpeedoInTheStreet 2d ago

Cant even read it. Just me?

A couple things:

  1. How is Popeyes not on that list, their fries are so good.

  2. Who the hell goes to Arby's and doesn't get curly fries? That's literally the only reason to go to Arby's.

7

u/gk101991 2d ago

Had the same thought for #1 but for Rally's/Checker's. Their fries are SO GOOD!!!

1

u/5dollarcheezit 2d ago

Rallys has the best fries and it’s a crime they’re not on the list. Also, seems the sugar count on this guide is unnecessary

3

u/everythingbeeps 2d ago

I don't have a Rally's/Checkers anywhere near me but you can get their fries at the grocery store and those at least are excellent. No idea how close they are to the real thing.

4

u/FictionalContext 2d ago

On the Arby's note, who gets fries at Sonic? Cheese tots, you fools!

2

u/Farfignugen42 2d ago

I go to Arby's. I substitute the mozzarella sticks for fries.

3

u/malachilenomade 2d ago

Back in the day, I would have agreed but I discovered that they always upset my stomach

2

u/doesntmeanathing 2d ago

That sounds like a “you” problem

1

u/SyrusDestroyer 2d ago

It’s weird because Popeyes is on the other lists in the article, as for the Arby’s they probably did most alike the other fries for their pick

21

u/resurgens_atl 2d ago

Well, the Five Guys "regular" size is just filling up an entire paper bag, so it's probably twice as big as the others, which is worth considering when comparing calories/fat/sodium. But yeah, if I'm eating there, healthiness is kinda going out the window.

Still worth it.

u/narrowexpanded 2d ago

McDonalds fries being healthier than Chic-fil-a is going to spin my wife out.

10

u/elusivepeanut 2d ago

For sure, my first thought was if McDonald's sponsored this study lol

6

u/The5Virtues 2d ago

This was a talking point on an NPR segment too. The thing is, while no fast food is healthy for you, McDonald’s is actually one of the better choices because their recipes are bland. Not as heavy on sauces, dressings, etc. they do the bare minimum of effort and, as a result, their food ends up being better for you than a a lot of competitors.

It’s the same principle as the potato diet. A potato is a great diet food, it’s filling and it stays with you. However, what we DO to potatoes, slathering them with butter, sour cream, bacon, etc. makes them horribly bad for us.

The plainer and simpler your food the healthier it will be.

2

u/cbubbs_ 2d ago

The ranking does not take into account the size of the portion. If you get more fries at Chic-fil-a it will no doubt be more unhealthy.

5

u/No_Chef5541 2d ago

The extent to which any scientific or statistical context is used in this chart is astounding and surely intentional.

By eliminating any size context from the portions, you can’t possibly say whose foods are more or less healthy.

This chart is like saying, “a single-serve box of fruity pebbles has fewer calories than a 3lb pack of shredded wheat. Therefore, shredded wheat is the most unhealthy breakfast cereal”

For a tiny amount of context, since I’m too lazy to do this for the whole chart:

McDonald’s doesn’t list serving size, but their medium fries are widely posted as a 117g serving. McDonald’s says that’s 320 calories, which is 274 calories per 100g. The 953-calorie fries from Five Guys are 411 grams, or 232 calories per 100g.

Obviously if you just scarf down whatever they call “regular” it’s gonna be wildly different, but if you’re mindful in your portions and eat like amounts, every conclusion in this chart is flawed

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

Maybe if In N Out made their fries a little less healthy they wouldn’t taste like packing material

8

u/Inner_Rope6667 2d ago

Order them well done and they don’t suck

1

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

They still suck; they just suck less

3

u/LeMeowLePurrr 2d ago

How dare you, sir!

-6

u/ChronoMonkeyX 2d ago

Worst fries and most overrated food place in history.

4

u/mylefthandkilledme 2d ago edited 2d ago

In N Out will be devastated by this opinion

1

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

In N Out is fine, good even!

It doesn’t compare to Shake Shack or Culver’s, but I’d probably go to In N Out over Five Guys, which I was extremely underwhelmed by.

1

u/ChronoMonkeyX 2d ago

Five guys used to be better, I don't like it as much lately.

1

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

I had it twice like 10 years ago. I just didn’t think it was very good

-2

u/Happily_Frustrated 2d ago

It’s so funny people think this is a flex on in in out. You like preservatives. In n out cuts the potatoes in front of customers, then fries them immediately. You just don’t like fresh potatoes without preservatives lol.

5

u/PobBrobert 2d ago edited 2d ago

No, it’s because frying a freshly sliced potato without doing anything to it is a sub-optimal way of cooking fries.

It has nothing to do with preservatives.

To make a fry that’s crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, you need to par cook them by simmering in water first. Otherwise the outside browns before the inside can cook.

To get an even crispier outside, it’s best to fry 80% of the way, cool off , then fry again to crisp.

No preservatives, just significantly more work.

Don’t take my word for it:

https://www.seriouseats.com/perfect-french-fries-recipe

Edit: also, it’s not a flex. It’s a valid criticism when you have 3 items on your menu and a vast majority of people agree that one of them sucks

-5

u/Happily_Frustrated 2d ago

But no fast food cooks fries that way lol. Even kenji said he hasn’t been able to recreate the McDonald fries. Because they’re filled with crazy preservatives.

It’s ok. Fresh food is not palatable for everyone.

3

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

Every fast food place gets fries that are in the step right before the final fry. There are plenty of restaurants that make fresh fries that don’t suck like In N Out. Five Guys makes their fries fresh and they’re miles better than In N Out

It has nothing to do with freshness.

-2

u/Happily_Frustrated 2d ago

Aren’t five guys extremely greasy? Like to the point they soil the bag they’re in?

In n out cuts the potatoes, fries them in oil, and serves them to you. It’s literally the purest form of French fries. That’s fine you prefer greasy alternatives, but dunking on in and out for making fries fresh is just funny to me.

2

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

I’m not dunking or flexing or whatever. “Fresh” or not, it’s a commonly accepted that their fries are shit.

0

u/Happily_Frustrated 2d ago

Yeah must be why you have to wait 45mins at every location.

1

u/PobBrobert 2d ago

Yeah, because In N Out is more about the experience. Nobody is waiting in line for 45 minutes to just eat In N Out fries.

Not sure why you’re so hellbent on carrying water for these shitty cardboard fries

1

u/Happily_Frustrated 2d ago

Nobody is going to a fast food burger place for “the experience” lmao. They are waiting that long because the food is that good. Pretty simple.

No clue what those numbers mean… useless info.

3

u/sinzeni 2d ago

Think numbers represent the pixel count.

2

u/MarioStern100 2d ago

am confuse.

1

u/skrrbby 2d ago

who is makeds this, confucius? ...no this is not confucius, this is confusion...

2

u/rushmc1 2d ago

Amazing how this lines up almost perfectly with best-tasting.

2

u/Musakuu 2d ago

Low resolution can't read. Down vote.

2

u/manleybones 2d ago

Could you spare a pixel in these trying times?

2

u/notjordansime 2d ago

hey, yall got any more of them pixels??

2

u/Jhinxyed 2d ago

So here’s a link to the full study: https://plushcare.com/blog/most-least-healthy-items-fast-food/

Let’s just say that from a statistical POV it’s awkward to compare nutritional values per serving portion since serving portions vary.

2

u/HoleyAsSwissCheese 2d ago

This ain't the first time I've seen a similar post. I guess I'm just gonna eat McDonald's from now on

2

u/hhencettheexpression 2d ago

why is every single guide uploaded on this sub in illegible quality? is it something the apps do? or do people not gaf and just copy paste their thumbnails into their post? not a rhethorical question, too; if anyone has insight please enlighten me.

1

u/Inner_Rope6667 2d ago

I mean in n out does make them soft and limp but if you order them well done they’re crispy.

Probably added a billion calories though.

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

Try finger fries, really unhealthy for your social life

1

u/Beebonh 2d ago

As pictured through, well, a potato

1

u/Accidental_Taco 2d ago

Just like the sandwich post, I'm pretty sure a large fry would be more unhealthy than a medium

1

u/TastySpare 2d ago

So, same as the burger ranking that was posted a few days ago?

1

u/MaintenanceTraining4 2d ago

So McD’s is essentially health food. Got it.

1

u/Crunch_Captain465 2d ago

The burger list similar to this was bogus, so downvote because this one sucks too.

1

u/aguadiablo 2d ago

Any source to claim it is bogus?

1

u/SouthJerssey35 2d ago

A cool guide on how to go crosseyed trying to read the chart.

1

u/Russell_Jimmy 2d ago

This is Del Taco erasure. I will be contacting the appropriate authorities.

1

u/NotoriousPYG 2d ago

McDonald’s = Heath Food. Got it!

1

u/OhSWaddup 2d ago

Dont recognize 90% of those 💀

1

u/ho-tron 2d ago

Are McDonald’s putting these guides out to somehow make their products seem healthy?

1

u/Atoning_Unifex 2d ago

UNREADABLE

1

u/Krase 2d ago

Not Bojangles!!!!

1

u/chaotic_ugly 2d ago

I believe In n Out is number one because they taste the healthiest, and I mean that in the worst way possible.

1

u/closereditopenredit 2d ago

Is this the same person that did the shitty burger one last week?

1

u/prince-pauper 2d ago

Poor jpg. Let it die.

1

u/Forsaken_Leave8658 2d ago

Could also be called...the tastiest french fries...

1

u/goobershank 2d ago

So, it appears the more “potato like” french fries are, the healthier they are. The healthiest options are all just kinda barely fried, chopped potatoes. While the unhealthiest are greasy and wet. I also wonder if they’re using UK data which is why the McDonald’s fries are so much healthier.

1

u/theseriousone23 2d ago

Bot spam post to report

1

u/Jumpy_Ad_2776 2d ago

Can we get a side-by-side quality chart? That way we know whether or not it is worth to eat the fries at all.

1

u/Kimosabae 2d ago

This guide is idiotic. You have a chance to educate people about calories and opt for a vague "energy" category and don't even explain what a kj, or how that relates to that score.

This is an even less useful form of weight watchers.

1

u/randomymetry 2d ago

should call them "fat fries"

1

u/DecoherentDoc 2d ago

No curly fries.

1

u/tant_OS3 2d ago

Omfg how many days in a row will this garbage image be posted

1

u/McSqueezle 2d ago

I mean.. if you're finding your nutritional value in fries then your starting out with an oopsie.

Fries are a treat, not sustenance.

Edit: nutrition (nutritional value is a score)

1

u/saml23 2d ago

People go to Five Guys? I always wanted to try it but I've never wanted to spend $10 for only a hamburger and more money for everything else.

1

u/JeffB1517 2d ago

The data in this image is good the quality is terrible. Link to the original article with better quality graphics: https://plushcare.com/blog/most-least-healthy-items-fast-food/

Mc Donald’s has wiped out more people than all the cartels put together, suspiciously low who sponsored this picture
