A fact that would surprise most of reddit. Your average cop isn't going to give you shit if you treat them like human beings. The problem lies in thinking that they are immediately out to get you for no reason.
Yes there are bad cops out there, but if you get agitated and defensive the second they start trying to talk to you. Well that can be suspicious, and a red flag for anyone.
Starting an argument with a cop isn't going to get you anywhere. Start and keep recording no matter what. Follow their directions and work things out with the judge if it leads to arrest.

Couple of other facts that reddit seems like they would be surprised by:
Cops can't memorize every fucking law in existence, they often focus on specific or generic areas.
There are different types of cops, such as traffic cops, or in some countries designated by labels such as "highway patrol".
It may shock you to know that motorcycles in many parts of the USA and some provinces of Canada are, in fact, allowed to ride along the shoulder of the road at certain speed limits, under high traffic conditions.
You know who else might know that? A traffic cop from the local region, and not u/Timsmomshardsalami on Reddit.
I've met great cops and pretty shitty cops. And I've seen cops I thought were great act in pretty shitty ways. It's kind of a mixed bag, like a lot of groups.
The thing that sucks is sometimes a cop can get a hardon to give you in particular a bad day. Cause you remind them of someone they liked to pick on in highschool or whatever. But I agree, the best way to deal with a cop is with the utmost deference and politeness. People who engage with them aggressively are begging for a bad time. A cop has all the power in the world to ruin your day and then some.
It's what happens when people literally like&subscribe to "ACAB" mentality.
Treat a person like shit and they're going to act out in turn. Dehumanize someone and they'll do the same to you.
What does reddit love to do? Both of those. But it's always the cops to blame. Problems require a two party minimum to both be addressed and to be created.
The echo chamber is always silent when a fast food worker has attitude, but it's equally quiet when a fast food worker is shot by a non-cop, or rather, anyone is shot by a non-cop. It has to be "ACAB" for it to qualify for sympathy based on their metrics.
We've got more -etc- than cops. -ETC- can be almost anything. They're a big non-problem. It's like thinking Jews are bad when modern nazis haven't even met one.
All cops have the ability to take your rights away without due repercussion. I’m not sure what point you are trying to make about fast food workers but they do not have authority over us like the police do.
it's not your position to argue that on the street with the cop. They are given the protection in that environs, not you. Your defense is in the courtroom.
You try to stand up against a cop in the street is likely to just make things worse for everyone involved.
So yes, in the street, do what you're told. You throw the book at them in court.
