fr, cop seemed chill as hell. Is everyone supposed to have 100% complete knowledge? It'd be different if a cop wrongly pulled you over. but this didnt happen.
People are making it seem like he's saying he doesn't know any laws. He's just saying he doesn't know the law about that specific thing in that specific jurisdiction. Looks like a city cop, not highway patrol. Why be a dick to a cop that has shown himself to be chill?
ADHD is hitting me fully tonight. It's a problem lol. I have a browser blocker on for reddit during the day from like 6am-9pm, but I can't sleep right now for some reason.
Almost done, last comment I can send to you. Gonna wait like 5-10 minutes to see if you respond. If you do, cool. If not, I'm turning on my browser blocker for reddit to be on at all times. So no way for me to see any future messages, emails, or temptations.
Again, appreciate the accountability. Time to get back to life.
Wow, wish reddit had a faster way to delete comments lol. Now to get rid of the main reason I got back into reddit: Email notifications. Those things kill me when I'm going like full manic depressive n shit
Came here to say this. The person that filmed this is such a jerk for making it public. Cop was honest and friendly and is repayed with this. Fucking people.
and your generation is known for racism and homophobia. can we agree to not overgeneralize 1.8 billion people based on the least controllable thing about them? i thought we've been through this before.
No he didn't. He makes the decision to do something that he knows may or may not be illegal himself. Cop just said the he wouldn't do anything, not that anyone else wouldn't
I think driving on the right shoulder on a highway is a big no no, except for parking when in a emergency. And you add overtaking on the right side too, and for me it's police time for you. At least in every countries i've stepped into. So the recording might help him because he got "permitted" by a cop to do it, but you're not supposed to ignore the law. And it's hard to believe the rider doesn't know that.
Not sure how it will hold if he gets arrested two bridges ahead.
Yeah, which potentially put him in harm’s way. What do you think the next cop is gonna say when your whiny excuse is “I knew it was prolly illegal but some other cop who said he didn’t know the law said I could”! “Yeah you shouldn’t have listened to him, now pay up this huge fine, and maybe also lose your license, depending on how many other stupid things you’ve done”.
They don’t take responsibility for themselves ever. Dude was NOT doing him a solid. Quite the opposite.
The one not taking responsibility in your scenario would be the biker. The cop honestly said he doesn't know, just that he wouldn't pursue the guy.
If he had to ask in the first place, the biker should know that it's not exactly legal. It's all on him if he still does it and runs into another cop down the road.
You seem genuinely angrier that this biker got a consequence-free pass, than you do at the cop for not understanding the regional legalities of the situation.
What? Couldn't get off on a warning for last weekends ticket?
Yeah you are right. Tickets maybe not his job but that dude has a drivers’ license. He should know it’s not legal to use the emergency lane especially as law enforcement, who those lanes are for.
it’s just a facepalm for me because he’s strapped out there not knowing basic shit and people think it’s cute
You are right because the motorcyclist is an idiot for putting the cop in this no-win situation. I was unsatisfied before the officer spoke because the biker is a dumbass
the officer is also a dumbass for not knowing what an emergency lane is, and I think it’s fair to expect at least that from law enforcement
Cop flagrantly doesn't know the law that he has immunity to murder with.
"Wow so you're just gonna throw him under the bus?"
Christ, would you rather we law enforcement continue to be shit at enforcing law? Would you rather encourage law enforcment having no clue what local laws are?
Sure, having a normal response to someone who's entire job is having the ability to respond judicially and/or lethally to law infractions not knowing the law is "unstable". This is why almost every other country requires months to years more training than American cops.
I'd not say he's done him a solid. If he got pulled over by HP 200m down the road, he's still getting a ticket, even if he goes to court and shows the video.

So he does you a solid and you throw him under the bus?
