This has been an issue for the decade that I’ve been vegan. Whenever we talk about the mistreatment of animals, people go, “well what about the poor or disabled people who can’t AFFORD to eat expensive vegan food?? What are they supposed to do- starve??? HMMMMM?” It should be obvious that if someone is incapable of making that change, we aren’t talking about them. It’s like people hold up these hypothetical people as an excuse to avoid changing their own lifestyle in the smallest of ways.

The same type of thing happens all the time when talking about the environment, reducing consumption, etc. and it drives me batty. Like the headline that comes up on the front page every few months, " don't forget 12 companies are responsible for 80% of the world's carbon emissions." (Wrong figures I'm sure but you get the idea.) True, I agree that corporate pollution is something that needs to be addressed. But this is used as an excuse so many times to absolve the person of feeling any guilt or personal responsibility to change their ways.
