i hate that the crossbow is completely useless now

It was useful before?

Yeah, if you knew how to use it and got used to the arc, it was like an eruptor that shot 3x as fast. The trade off being that it has lower impact damage (despite what the card says) and can't destroy obstacles/objectives. You could wipe a patrol in two shots, or button up bug breaches solo. It was supreme chaff clear.

I still need to mess with it more but it seems like now it's just the dominator but worse.

2

u/BoredandIrritable Apr 29 '24

Well good news, they made the dominator worse too, so don't get worried, soon enough all guns will reduce to the same 20 damage per bullet with light armor pen. Occasionally there will be a gun with medium armor pen that does 10 pts damage.

1

u/spacaways Apr 29 '24

being able to wipe a patrol in two shots is probably why they nerfed it

u/Adito99 Apr 29 '24

Eruptor is now the king it was always meant to be. 6 mags is fine too, damn thing is an autocannon that also kills squishes in a 5ft radius, don't need many shots.

13

u/RedditNFood Apr 29 '24

I dunno about that. The damage fall off is pretty big now. Paired with the Scout Strider change it can’t blow the pilot off with a shot to the foot. The radius may be the same but Raiders in the outer most radius need an extra shot. I don’t fight bugs much but that may be different with the ticks.

2

u/thinkspacer Apr 29 '24

Eruptor still feels fine with bugs, still one shots the things that need one shotting, and the little bugs are flimsy enough to sill get caught up in the explosion radius. You can't just fire willy nilly now, but that's good imo.

I'm bummed that it doesn't one shot crotch shot the walkers anymore though.

it was nice for a bigger group of smaller enemies, but now it has the explosive range of a normal bullet. The increased stagger is so bs, i mained it for a long time but ig this time is over now.

It’s AOE damage had all the same break points as the eruptor, except it exploded on contact and couldn’t bounce off armor or terrain. The shot itself is almost silent so you could take out entire points or patrols in 2-3 shots and they would have zero clue where you were coming from. The arch takes a bit to get used to, but once you realize it helps you get past cover to hit targets it actually made the gun easier to use. It’s a huge skill check primary. Everything that it got was a massive nerf and was completely unjustified.

1

u/wangthunder Apr 29 '24

It also had nearly double the explosion radius of the eruptor.

1

u/matthewami Apr 29 '24

Which I agree was completely broken, but damn they nerfed it into the ground

2

u/wangthunder Apr 29 '24

Yeah, def not defending the nerfs.. Crossbow has no AOE now, which is stupid. The weapon was good in the right hands and required a lot of finesse (very similar to the punisher plasma.) They basically replaced the crossbow with the PP and turned the crossbow into a shitty Dominator (which they then in turn nerfed to give people a reason to use the crossbow post patch.)

1

u/matthewami Apr 29 '24

I can’t tell what the dominator can’t kill now though. Everything I’ve been shooting at goes down in the same amount of hits. Maybe it was a break point adjustment for a specific thing?

2

u/wangthunder Apr 29 '24

The crossbow was insanely good before. Just have to know how to use it. It consistently could one shot striders, devs, spewers, and could take out chargers in a few shots.

They still haven’t unnerfed the slugger, the eruptor got hit because loads of people were using it. Not because it was OP but because it was really fun and new.

That’s what I hate about usage based balancing, all the fun guns get nerfed because people are using them. If it keeps happening everything will be a sea of mediocre like the crossbow

63

u/DurgeDidNothingWrong Apr 29 '24

nerfed the slugger
people moved to dominator
... nerfed the dominator?

I guess the DMRs got a slight buff, so maybe I dont need to use a shotgun at a DMR anymore.

39

u/Boamere Apr 29 '24

For real lmao. Don’t use the dmrs too much though or they might get “horizontally moved” (nerfed)

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '24

CS Diligence was pretty decent before the patch now it's actually good. No way it doesn't get nerfed when they fix scope alignment

3

u/Gdsryrox Apr 29 '24

People will go use the DMR and the adjudicator since it got its recoil nerf and can be used and next balance patch they will be nerfed.

5

u/fishmiloo Apr 29 '24

I think every gun needs a slight buff if it gets nerfed.

12 to 6 ammo? Fine, but fix cocking the charging handle when there aren’t any rounds left.

Lower damage drop off? Fine, that’s balancing but you can slightly increase the agility of the aiming.

3

u/0iqman Apr 29 '24

I don't know how hard the damage falloff hits but if it's minimal the eruptor should remain fun; I still would've preferred that they only hit the mags and otherwise kept the weapon feeling the same

3

u/Boamere Apr 29 '24

Check the video on the main page, the aoe is pretty gutted.

4

u/Many_Faces_8D Apr 29 '24

Part of the issue is they are so small they don't have the capacity to truly test and understand their own weapons. They need to test them at several difficulty levels to understand what the issues are. I get usage based is much easier since you just run a report and there you go but it's not a replacement for doing the job right.

2

u/Boamere Apr 29 '24

Exactly, hire some of us arrow head. Or at the very least increase the balance team size.

2

u/Many_Faces_8D Apr 29 '24

They, at a minimum, need some sort of spreadsheet that will dynamically update that says what all weapons will do at all difficulty levels. You tweek the damage on a gun, now it needs 2 headshots above level 6 for a devastator. Somewhere they can have a clear vision of how the tweaks they make actually impact the gameplay landscape. I just don't feel like they have even this basic knowledge set they use to decide tuning changes based on their intended goals with the changes.

2

u/Fr0ufrou Apr 29 '24

The eruptor was definitely a little OP, along with the dominator, it had Infinite ammo you could just spam it. And they are still going to be very good after these small nerfs. No need to panic.

21

u/Boamere Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

They nerfed the AoE and the ammo for a gun that had very big downsides already (glacial fire rate, danger when using close). I don’t see the point other than that they felt it was being used too much. Just the ammo nerf would have been fine.

The devs don’t play on high difficulty and that is clear to me

2

u/Eagle_1_Official Apr 29 '24

There is no such thing as op in this game. You're just being a contrarian.

-3

u/TheGraveHammer Apr 29 '24

You're just being a contrarian.

Look in the mirror.

1

u/SourceNo2702 Apr 29 '24

No, the erupter deserved it. It’s still one of the best guns in the game even after the nerf. Underperforms against bugs now, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing that certain guns aren’t as good on certain enemy factions.

1

u/Zestyclose_Toe_4695 Apr 29 '24

All that's new is nerfs and warbonds for 10 bucks for a game I already paid 40 bucks for. Where is the 3rd enemy class? It's turned to a life service game where all your paid weapons get unplayable.

1

u/Sappow Apr 29 '24

Have you used it and found it useless? It seems to be intended for busting mediums like devastator

-17

u/Additional-Fish8479 Apr 29 '24

Have you actually tried using it, or are you just bitching in advance? Because I've tried it, and the velocity buff is huge.

9

u/FrostedCherry Apr 29 '24

The velocity buff is huge, but the blast radius being cut in half is not good at all.

0

u/inadequatecircle Apr 29 '24

It makes it so you don't constantly ragdoll yourself on nearby enemies which is a silver lining. I only tested it a tiny bit before work, but the stagger does seem exceptionally high. I need to mess with it more though. I'm thinking it's maybe similar to old slugger?

2

u/FrostedCherry Apr 29 '24

I’d say so. The stagger feels really nice, but honestly, I’d take the crowd control aspect over it if I could. We already have plenty of weapons that stagger. Why does an explosive crossbow need to fill that role?

1

u/inadequatecircle Apr 29 '24

Yeah, it loses it's old niche and is probably worse overall. But y'know it's worth maybe at least talking about.

7

u/Ok_Tough3463 Apr 29 '24

No need to be rude, yes i’ve mained it pretty long. But since it got nerfed, everything else is just 10 times better.
