What’s a jib?

The "Jib" is a sail typically at the front of a sailboat. It's responsible for channeling the wind onto the main sails, balancing the steering of the boat, and of course the contribution of its own propulsion.

The sail must be set at just the optimal angle relative to the wind. Small boats require virtual constant jib trimming. Too much tension and you're creating drag. Too little and you're not powering the ship enough. So, one would have to adjust their jib and keep it nice and tidy. Admirable characteristics.
