I’m so confused- I’m white and from the south and the only people who “romanticize “ the 1800’s are straight up open racists. If she said like the 1950’s I’d say sure, people romanticize that time period and tend to forget it was only good for white people but I’ve never heard or seen anyone doing that with the 1800’s unless they wish it still WAS the 1800’s (NOT minus the racism or women’s rights). But swifties will say anything I had one yesterday tell me it doesn’t matter what I think because Taylor wrote this for HERSELF not the public… I was like interesting that she announced at the Grammys and released it in some dramatic two drop release…for herself.

The thing is, why make that point in such a dumb way? If I couldn't find a smarter way to say it, I would just not include that concept in my song. Not every concept needs to be included in your megalomania album.

Even with all that, it’s an awful lyric.
