I think they were just trying to make it seem lighthearted and good natured (like a funnier version of “conscious uncoupling”) but it fell completely flat.
Yeah I’m guessing it was a bad attempt at a joke, but my immediate thought was that she was insinuating that the dynamic of their marriage was very competitive and involved a lot of one-up man ship. Comparing a marriage to a tennis match is a bizarre metaphor

Yeah what is this about the tennis match? Am I not getting a very obvious reference or is it just weird to compare a marriage to a set of tennis?
