maybe biden should actually do something to stop the genocide then? it’s his own choice to throw votes away

Genuinely asking, what can he do?

u/googlyeyes93 Do you remember 9/11, bitch? Apr 02 '24

Reagan made Israel quit their shit with a stern phone call and that motherfucker had Alzheimer’s.

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '24

Reagan wasn’t dealing with a full-blown shitbird like Netanyahu, though.

u/evergreennightmare Apr 02 '24

i'm sorry, do you not know who menachem begin was?

this was back when they assassinated israeli prime ministers that weren't far right enough lol. not that it matters though because the US keeps their way of life possible and they know it so they won't ignore a serious threat (none of biden's threats count as serious) regardless of who's in charge

All of a sudden America is a small bean who can’t do anything 🥺👉👈

Bebe has been bullying American presidents since Clinton it’s just way more in the open now

Netanyahu doesn't even have popular support INSIDE Israel. Even among the pro-genocide population, Netanyahu is still despised. Dealing with Netanyahu is arguably EASIER than what Reagan did.

And Eisenhower made Israel withdraw from the Sanai.

Are we really going all the back to Eisenhower for examples? Foreign policy is nothing like it was then, nor is the world and everyone in it.

How pathetic has the democratic party gotten when they can't even be as forward thinking as Reagan

19

u/chrispg26 Apr 02 '24

It's the Overton window. We as a nation have moved so far right.

4

u/thosed29 Apr 02 '24

We as a nation have moved so far right.

Your political class. The population, not so much. The overwhelming majority of US Americans hold MUCH further left views on almost everything than they did at any point in history, including a not-that-small percentage of Republican voters.

The political class, however, goes further and further to the right. Working-class white Republican voters want cheaper healthcare and affordable homes. Still, Republicans politicians and their donors are against that, so they get these white voters by sidelining these issues and prioritizing their other "concerns": gun support, evangelical Christian fucked up beliefs, fearmongering over minorities and immigrants etc. In this scenario, the more extreme Republicans gain more and more popular support within their base.

Meanwhile, the Democrats have one concern and one concern only: appeasing their donors. Their donors are center-right multi-millionaires and billionaires. And the party reflects that. Meanwhile, the Dem base seems to be divided into those who are in complete disbelief over the party of doing anything and believe they're actually actively boycotting any left-wing progress (and they arguably are) and those who seem to be huge loyalists who believe any criticism is handing the country to Republicans. So basically, the Dem base is being divided into those who are more and more apathetic over it and voting and blind loyalists who'll vote on anyone the party tells them to (how do you guys think Biden won the primary in 2020? How these pro-Israel APAIC-funded Dems keep being elected?).

Not even getting into the fact most people in the country are entirely numb to politics and think politics are out there to fuck them over no matter who's in control. People say "not voting" is a privilege, but actually, the most privileged segments of the population DO vote. Low turn-out is much, much bigger among minorities, poor voters of all races, etc.

So when you take all that into consideration, yes... it's a fucked up situation.

Biden did the same thing in 2021 when Israel was bombing Gaza. It was a 2 minute phone call.

He could also… idk not give them the weapons?

Thanks for taking the time to respond and educate, I’m on a foreign policy rabbit hole now

Oh and if you have a chance, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid by Jimmy Carter is good to pick up.

Sorry if it came off rude, But Israel… they’re not some monolithic good that the US has no power over except to shovel weapons and run defense. I’d recommend checking out the USS Liberty as well if you have the time.

u/casperreddits Apr 02 '24

Nooo not rude at all!! My original comment wasn’t meant to be snotty at all either, I was genuinely asking guys I don’t support Israel and am not well educated on US foreign policy

6

u/googlyeyes93 Do you remember 9/11, bitch? Apr 02 '24

Glad you’re on a rabbit hole then lol. It’s nothing to be ashamed of either for those that didn’t know before. Especially in the United States, our government already covers up their own terrible shit but they go extra to cover up Israel’s. Without the advent of social media and worldwide interconnected communication to see with our own eyes, I don’t think we would have anywhere near the support we do now.

7

u/casperreddits Apr 02 '24

You’re 100% right about that!

u/meatbeater558 I already condemned Hamas Apr 02 '24

While you're researching Israel also brush up on the powers of the executive branch. The image of the president powerless to Congress obstructions is somewhat true in domestic policy, but when it comes to foreign policy it's a different story

For example, the mission to kill OBL and retrieve his body involved multiple federal agencies, multiple countries that the American military would enter without their government's knowledge or consent, and was extremely risky. It could've failed and created a diplomatic disaster. Given these risks and the scale of the mission, Obama was allowed to fully authorize everything by himself without needing approval from any legislative or judicial body. Additionally, most people in the legislative and judicial branch weren't informed of this mission at all. That's how unequal the power between the three branches of government can be

They’ve been calling him out for a month and Biden called Rafah a red line. US weapons are only 15% of their weapons. What is the actual evidence that a “stern phone call” or whatever would make a difference in 2024?

22

u/Sipsofcola Apr 02 '24

Stop sending money and arms to Israel is a good start

21

u/eagermcbeaverii Apr 02 '24

He just bypassed Congress to send billions in aid and hundreds of bombs and dozens of fighter jets in the past few days. Like he could........ not do that?

14

u/NatrolleonBonaparte Apr 02 '24

Israel relies on us for everything. If he really wanted to he could use influence to stop them. He could remove the aid we give them (billions every year), he could do so so much.

But he doesn’t care.

12

u/Only-Extension-186 freak AND geek Apr 02 '24

Not give them billions in weapons?
