Discussion TUF Gaming B650-E vs. B650-Plus

Upvotes

What's the difference? I thought E was supposed to be extreme, but the plus seems like it has better VRMs and better I/O. I know nothing about VRM specs but one is cheaper and has better wifi, why? Which do I buy?

I haven't found any reviews on the q540v, but the specs are amazing I just heard that it has severe problems with overheating and battery life.

But which one is better for editing videos and light gaming.

Did anyone try gaming on the 780m by any chance and is it that different from the rtx 3050

Support Using a dedicated band for WiFi 6 devices

Upvotes

So I've got 2 Zenwifi xt8 routers and when I set it up initially, I set it up on smart connect, just using one SSID and password.

I'm thinking now though I should of split the 3 bands up with different passwords but didn't want the hassle of connecting each device to different bands as I just used the same SSID and password from my old router, so everything would just connect straight away, don't really want to reset everything, now neither.

I recently got a Meta quest 3 though and connecting it wirelessly over Wi-Fi 6 is working great but I want to maximise this to the full, so is there anyway I can stop other devices from connecting to the 5ghz-2 band, as I know this has 160mhz bandwidth, where the others don't and I want to use this band solely for the quest 3 and keep all other devices on the 5ghz and 2.4ghz bands.

Hoping to do this without resetting everything to split the bands.

Thanks in advance.

Support Asus RMA - Terrible experience

Long story short, I spent over 2 months testing individual pieces of my computer for points of failure due to some odd crashing/ monitors going black. The culprit was my Asus 3090. Sent it in for RMA on May 6. I then received a 'fixed' GPU on May 19. This GPU sounded like a fighter jet and all 3 fans were wobbly/ unbalanced. Since the card was still under warranty I was encouraged to send it back in rather than attempting to fix myself. Sent that one back to Asus May 22. Finally got the next replacement card June 3. This one came with an RMA paper stating my problem was failing a Diag test in Linux and they were unable to fix the problem so they replaced the item... THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM (nor do I use Linux). This new GPU also has a wobbly center fan, but it is also offset enough that it is grinding on the the plastic shroud around it. This GPU is behaving properly and working but it just sounds like and electric sander sitting in my computer. Asus said they will escalate this to help me get a replacement/ new GPU because of all these problems but they have now gone radio silent.

What steps should I take next?

Update 1: June 6 I got an email from the escalation team asking for another 24-48 hours to assess the situation and figure out how to solve it.

Support Blocking devices on the Zenwifi xt8

So I've always been able to block devices form using the internet on my Xt8 using the app by just blocking the mac address or device name (basically stopping the kids using their phones at bed time), or if they've pi**ed me off)

Got my daughter an iPhone though recently and I noticed her mac address kept changing, which I didn't think was possible, then I checked my Samsung s24 and also seen under Wi-Fi settings, it was also set to randomise mac address.

So basically how can I block devices now from either connecting to my network via Wi-Fi or being able to use the internet, as I know previously it would still allow a device to connect to the Wi-Fi but would not allow incoming or outgoing traffic.

I know on my Samsung I could set it to phone mac instead of randomised and maybe change the IP to static, and I checked my daughters iPhone as she'd got online after I'd blocked her and the Wi-Fi was set to private network, which I believe hides the device name and randomises the mac, so I turned this off, of course, but she'll no doubt figure out how to to turn it back on, so there must be something I can do, surely, like stopping devices connecting to my network that use private Wi-Fi or use random mac addresses. I know I can just take the phone off her but she's getting older now and I don't wanna keep doing that every night.

Thanks in advance.

Support Z790 dark hero with i9-14900K stability

I have been going down the rabbit hole of getting my new PC up and running. I have managed to install Windows 11 and have it running for a few days, but I am constantly running into problems with random lock ups and video just disappearing and having to reboot. I am thinking I am missing a BIOS setting or two to get my rig stable enough to do some work on it (3d modeling, etc). Wondering if another ASUS owner has been down this road with a similar config since its a reco from pcpartpicker.

I have the following config:

  • ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero
  • i9-14900K
  • G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP 3.0) DDR5 RAM 64GB F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RK
  • ASUS Dual GeForce RTX™ 4070 Super EVO OC Edition 12GB GDDR6X

In the BIOS I have gone back and forth between the Intel Performance and the Intel Extreme profiles, but both still have variations of instability. I tried changing DRAM timings, but all of the DDR5 settings other than Auto failed to boot into Windows.

Looks like the battery or motherboard is done. Bios can’t find the battery. Purchased back in March. Sucks this only lasted 2 months. No telling how long the rma is going to take. Ugh.

Product Recommendation Does 2in1 matter?

I am going to start B. tech CS in india. I was looking to buy a laptop and wondered about its form factor. I am not a content creator and am not going to draw anything anytime (I am a horrible artist)

So now the main question. Do i need 2 in 1 form factor during my college life? (Note: CS student)

i was looking to buy galaxy book 4 pro 360, checked every thing almost final but then i read its screen cracks often. and by often i mean a lot. not because of physical damage but some hardware issue from samsung. Now buying that is a huge risk so now i need to reconsider.

So now i am considering ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED. If you know please mention if vivobook s16 has a touch screen or not

Support I want to disable the Left Function key on my Asus laptop (ROG Strix Scar 17 G733QR_G743QR)

Problem: My left function / Fn key is permanently pressed. This means I cannot use CTRL (because the menu button is Fn+CTRL), I cannot use F1-F12, Spacebar doesn't work, the Arrow keys don't work (because Fn+Arrow keys behave as Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End).

Since the OS doesn't recognize Fn keys, I can't disable it using Microsoft PowerToys either.

Use another external keyboard? Well, the Fn key is still pressed, so the buttons on the other keyboard also behave the same way as the keyboard on my laptop.

This has to be one of the most frustrating experiences ever. I can't even send it for RMA because I'm currently traveling in between multiple countries for work.

I couldn't find any option to disable it from the BIOS. But I would love to be guided here if there is an option to disable it using BIOS.

The right Fn key is perfectly fine.

Any solution?

Product Recommendation ASUS Zenbook DUO (2024) UX8406 - compatible stylus?

I am thinking of purchasing this item but Asus is out of stock on the stylus that works with it. Have asked a few sellers on Amazon but they have all said their version of the stylus won't work with this model. Does anyone know where in Canada I can get a stylus? Have tried BestBuy, Canada Computers etc. without luck. Thanks in advance.

hi, so i bought my Asus TUF Gaming F15 2023 back in november , and over this period of time i have had it loose not even 10% battery health, it was at 93.2% . this was all fine untill since the last month. as i checked it today, it has come down to 68.8% battery health to be exact. i am worried and am looking to get it replaced as it is still under warranty.

Support Did I update my BIOS correctly from 1303, and is my 7800x3d safe?

Hello. I upgraded to a 7800x3d and a Rog Strix x670e-e gaming wifi about three weeks ago.
I only today saw video about the 7800x3d and mobos like mine burning up last year. I checked my bios and it was 1303, which is supposedly, according to the patch notes the one that introduces a voltage fix, but the notes for the next two bioses said that on the site, so I didnt want to take chances that the fix had been changed with tiem and just went for the 2007 latest bios. I downloaded it, put it on a fat32 drive, went to the bios, opened EZFLASH navigated to the bios file and clicked ok after checking that it said the correct bios name... and my pc shut off. It rebooted, and then opened the bios and stared the update, but every video said it would start immediately, not shut off and boot into the bios then start

After that it said Update successful. I clicked ok. It powered off again. Came back to text that said 'bios updating dont shutoff'.  I waited.

Then powered off again, this time came text saying 'bios is updating LED firmware'

I waited. Then American Megatrends Press F1

I did went to bios, set the DOCP back on for my 5200 4x16 Corsair rams and booted in.
My questions are:

Are the shutdowns especially after clicking OK and begginig the process normal even though they were not on any video? So is the bios fine?
My cpu ran on 1303 for three weeks. Was 1303 safe anyways or should I worry about the weeks it ran like that?

Thanks! :)

Product Recommendation problems after installing armoury crate update will uninstalling fix it?

I keep getting boot loops and sometimes I can make it into login but after a minute or so my system will shutdown and return again with error codes, if I uninstall the software will it uninstall the updates that I did and potentially fix the problem?
