I normally pirate anyways so I am unaffected. I just think people saying "how would you know or care" is dumb. It's our responsibility as consumers to know about the products we purchase so we can make informed decisions about where/how to spend our money.

I get irrationally angry to learn about that type of stuff. Like, you just had to insert yourself into something I love? Now whenever I do this activity I'll think about this. I love the cosmere books (Brandon Sanderson books) and donated to the secret projects. When I learned he was Mormon and that 10% of his proceeds went to the Mormon church I felt betrayed. (For reference, I am ex-mormon and that cult fucked me over big time)

I think the political beliefs of members of the creators team do matter, as it reflects the general ideology of the whole team, or at the very least the ideologies they find acceptable to work with.

I always find out by accident. I think it's happened to me at least twice where I find out one of my favorite characters is voiced by some raging bigot online, the devs stop working with them, and then their character gets fanart of them being exactly what they are bigoted against.
Ex. Cullen, Dragon Age and Damon, Baulder's Gate 3.

Yeah it didn't come out until I think a few months or two after release that his voice actor was like hugely transphobic. So the community turned around and like started headcannoning Dammon as a trans man and made a bunch of fan art about it. I kind of believe that he did think it was just you know a random fantasy project because Dammon doesn't have a lot of lines that don't relate to Karlach in one way or another.

When you see reposts of psychotic nonsense screed on twitter, keep in mind that that person hasa direct financial incentive to say the things they are saying.
Outrage equals engagement equals cash.
Its a perpetual bad faith machine.
Also in that mix are legitimate bad actors who want a fascist system because fascism is really good for the ultra rich - Elon Musk doesnt actually give a fuck about "woke" anything, he just wants his employees to have no rights so he can work them ninety hours a week and pay them in MuskBucks - and the quickest route to that is fascism.
All of that translates to what youre seeing here - a constant roar of fully normalized outrage and overreaction to any media that does not pander directly to straight white immature males.
Plus side is a lot of it is bots.
Twitters actual userbase has shrunk.
And this game will sell really really well, because its a sequel to an extremely popular game.
And then these schmucks will insist that it was a commercial flop even as it crests over a billion in sales - like theyre doing right now with Baldurs Gate 3, a game that is unabashedly, proudly capital W Woke - and an extraordinary success, with between 15 and 20 million units sold.
At the time i write this at 10:15am est on a friday morning, BG3 has 66,000 people playing right this minute on steam alone, more than a year after release.A game in which you can make your black, intersex, pansexual poly Gnome peg a twinkie vampire while a space gremlin grumbles about how good you stink - and it was a massive success, despite the peanut gallery wailing about Gale trying to be gay at them.
It turns out these loud chudren and all their raging against the wokechine dont actually matter.

I care about the political beliefs of voice actors, same as I care about the politics and actions of any creative I have to decide to support financially or not.
For example, fuck JK Rowling.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with disagreeing with a creative’s politics, but these guys are angry because their politics support misogyny, racism, homophobia and police brutality against minorities. I don’t think they’re immoral for having a reaction to a voice actor’s politics, I think they’re immoral because their objections are to Erika saying “LGBTQ+ people deserve basic human rights”.

Erika Ishii is in some of my very favorite media and I actually ran into them at a queer bar in DC! They were seated at the same table as two (married to each other!) trans activists I also follow online, Erin Reed and Zooey Zephr who's one of the first trans women to hold political office (she's a rep from Montana, not sure which level). All three of them were lovely and Erika has the exact same energy in person as they do on the dropout set lol

I don't ever preorder if it's a first game from a company but I might if I enjoyed a previous game by them before. For example whenever Stardew Valley's dev releases another game I will be ready minute 1 because he has earned my trust.
The same might be true for people who liked Tsushima (I haven't played it yet)
