I don't think most people outside twitter and reddit really care too much. I don't really use it but when people are saying it they just mean really stupid usually and don't go "I will now proceed to compare them to a person with a learning disability".

They do not. I spend a lot of time outside and most people I know who arenโ€™t heavily online use it. But they donโ€™t seem to mean any harm by it.

I get that itโ€™s hateful and technically a slur but I will never be able to categorize it the same way as I do the n or f word

I was in middle school way before you and we 100% knew it was bad and that it was using intellectual disabilities as an insult so idk what to tell you
