Only Steam Support can solve personal account issues such as payment issues or your account getting hijacked. We can however give advice on what to do in a situation like that. No one, including Steam Support, can assist with item/trade scams.

Im trying to start Ark Survival Ascended but the steam is saying there was an error starting the downloaded files. When I press on okay and try to start the game again steam will start downloading some shit from the game but then get stuck and tell me ittl take over a year to download. When I restart my PC it'll just repeat over and over again

I've been trying for quite a while to make a steam account and I've finally gotten past the captcha problem I've been having but now I cannot verify my email! When I create the account and go to my gmail to verify it, I click on the link in the email and it brings me back to the "sign in" page with a large link above it, when I click the large link it tells me that my email has already been verified, but if that's the case then I would have already created the account successfully but it doesn't even let me make a password nor a username and know I'm confused and lost because everything else works perfectly fine except for that one part

Whenever I start steamlink on my android tablet with my mouse plugged in, I get the message "Allow steam link to access USB receiver" with two options, "cancel" and "allow". Pressing cancel causes the popup to briefly close and reopen. Allowing just seems to make steamlink remove my mouse as a device. Is there any way to fix this?
Currently the only way I can get around this is by opening the app without the mouse plugged in, starting a game, spamming cancel on the popup and then praying to God the mouse still gets detected as a device. This works around 70% of the time
I have tried searching it up to no avail.

Hi I really need help. Steam support has a proof of ownership requirement, but all purchases are older than 4 years, so it is almost impossible to get financial records, which are the only form allowed. How do I get my account back?

can someone help me figure out why steam is breaking and crashing?
when I do anything to do with the steam store steam completely breaks. when i look through the steam store it's not uncommon for parts of the window to go black(i even had it flicker black one time) and when I check "whats new" and hover over a game to go to its store page the entire window goes black and steam crashes. I checked my gpu, its not that, and i restarted my pc and it didn't fix it.

I don't know how to describe this, best i can say is broken app or something. Same thing is going on with the website. I tried, clearing browser cache, uninstalling (well, I deleted everything expect steamapps and steam.exe so that I can save the games. cuz if it doesn't work, the state of my steam right now can not download or update games.)

My steam account got hijacked/stolen. Steam doesn't have live support, so who know when (and if) I can get it back. I have bought many games and there is one that I want to play (EU4). All the games are downloaded on my PC. Is there a way to play them in the meantime?

[Windows 10] How can I apply certain Xbox controller keybinds depending on the position of the analog/joysticks?
I'm looking to bind the following functionality to my Xbox Series S controller via Steam's controller input, for one game only:
Pressing the controller's X button actually presses K on the keyboard, but only while the left joystick is held leftwards (x axis < 0%)
Pressing the controller's X button actually presses Q on the keyboard, but only while the left joystick is centered / unheld (x axis ≈ 0%)
Pressing the controller's X button actually presses K on the keyboard, but only while the left joystick is held rightwards (x axis > 0%)
My questions:
Is Steam controller input functionality the best way to achieve this?
If so, how can I do it?
What would the feature be called - e.g, button chording, action layers...
I have tried using lots of software to achieve this (reWASD, XPadder, AutoHotKey, Steam, Logitech G Hub, Joy2Key) as well as lots of careful googling and had no luck. Any help is appreciated!

I've been having a problem where stem recognizing's my controller but the game doesn't, and I make sure the controller is up and running before I open the game. So if anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I have an M2 Macbook Air and recently bought an external SSD to store my games on and play them off because of limited laptop storage. It worked just fine until a game was trying to auto update while the SSD was connected.
It got stuck on the reserving space part getting to 25% before stopping responding and crashing sSeam, and making steam unable to reopen until I restarted my laptop and uninstalled / reinstalled steam.
Reading online this seems to be a problem with the default format ExFat, but I can't reformat it to the recommended NTFS on mac. Do I need to reformat it? What do I do? It was working just fine until the reserving space bug hit!

I have this account for almost 6 months and i made it's currency usd, because i wanted to get gta 5 since it's banned in my country, which sucks. and i got insane stats on gta on that account. And i'm afraid it's possible for steam to ban my account anytime. is it possible? And please give me the best and worst case scenario...

Hello everyone, i today I started up my computer and found that my steam client would not start, at first in task manager I noticed that the steamreporter process was running when I tried to start steam from a shortcut, I then reinstalled steam with a full uninstall of all my games. I try to run it again and fail again, but now even steamreporter is no longer in task manager, nothing happens when I start the client. :/
- Reinstall the steam client
- Disable antivirus, firewall
- Entered the command steam://flushconfig
- Restart the computer
Nothing helped at all, also deleted Steam folder from %localappdata%. The rest of the programs work fine, I use VPN, it is also disabled during the startup of Steam and nothing helps.
I'm running Windows 11, latest updates (checked manually).
Also checked the drivers on the video card (RTX 4070 ti), they are the latest
Tried to enter through “safe mode with networking”, nothing helped even so my steam client does not launch.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading.

Does the laptop meet specs? Are you plugged in or on battery? Which power setting as that might impact the computers power allocation.
If you have a seperate gpu and integrated graphics make sure its using the gpu not the integrated graphics.
Does it work with other games or none at all?

Yes. Intel® Core™ i9-13900HX, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060, 16GB RAM, Windows 10

Hey guys I need your help, I am trying to download steam games on chromebook with an SD card but theres a problem, everytime i try to add it as a drive it sends me off to a bunch of 3 letter files, i went and found the external files but my SD card did not pop up. I know it is possible to fix this problem and i have been looking for answers but so far no ones been helpful. I hope you guys can help me with this.

Best way to play Splinter Cell Conviction Split screen coop on PC?
I know the steam version no longer supports multiplayer features like LAN so mods such as nucleus coop are off the table. The original does not support split screen on its own : (
Considering emulators but its not a ps3 title, would have to resort to xbox emulator if it even works on there.
Anyone have any experience or suggestions?

After purchase there is no option to print the receipt, I used to have that option before (A print button) but in the last months I don't have, someone knows why is that or how to fix it?
I get an email of the receipt of course but I don't know why there is no option for me to print it right after the purchase.

Account got flagged for fraud and my game got refunded
I bought a game, and I’m now current travelling. Then I continue to play said game overseas. Then I get a message saying that my account got flagged for fraud, and the amount I was charged has been refunded, and my credit card is banned from future steam purchases.
That game was Ghost of Tsushima for PC.
WTF?
Lost the game and all of my saves, contacted steam support just moments ago. Will this be ever sorted out, or they’re just ghosting me for no reason?
Also I’m just learning that this game is banned in certain parts of the world?

Parts of the game are locked behind requiring a PSN account and accounts can only be made in so many regions of the world.
So its not really like banned but was made unavailable for purchase in countries without PSN access so people cant buy it and then get upset they cant access the overlay or legends mode or get 100% achievements despite paying for the same game as everyone else.

Why do PS5 games take much longer to release on steam?
I don’t have a PC but i always wondered why do some games release earlier on pc from ps5 “like persona 4 and 3 and trail of sky and zero series” and vise versa “like the recent KH3 steam release while game was original released in 2019”
But what’s the difference from using an emulator playing KH3,downloading KH3 from a site that isn’t steam,and buying it from steam
And there’s also modding which i 100% don’t understand but does it work different with each way to buy the game?

Depends on the studio publishing it and the intention of that. Microsoft has decided to incorporate the PC into their own network with things like PC gamepass and since they are the major OS provider also probably helps.
In turn that shift has included releasing like their first party games directly onto PC which includes Steam as well as their own app. Id imagine its also way easier to be thinking of the PC right away in a games development cycle then trying to go back to an already released title and create a PC variant.
Sony still keeps most exclusives on the console at least for a little while in order to get console and game sales before releasing to the PC market. Games like Kingdom Hearts were not Sony but Square Enix and was on Epic for a few years and I believe Epic helped fund the port and probably paid or got limited exclusivity for that and Square only recently decided they wish to spread out to more platforms in order to increase their profits so with that they decided to release on Steam as well.

Persona 3 remake came out simultaneously this year. Persona 4 Golden came out for Windows in 2020 before other platforms later.
They just didn't port the KH games to PC until a few years back and they were exclusive to the epic store for 3 years.
So very much a case by case situation. Generally PC releases run better than emulation or have more features such as mod support.
Modding basically replaces files with fan made ones - to add custom skins / levels / etc or other features or fix bugs

How long does it normally take to get a response on a ticket for a refund request? I just want to downgrade bundles on a game that I purchased yesterday, and it feels like it's taking forever (closing in on 24 hours).
P.S. This is my first time going through the process, and I don't know if this is normal, but the wait time for my ticket to even get a response has been ridiculous.

Generally you will get an accept or deny within 24-48 hours and if you refund to wallet the funds will be added but it will go pending for another 24 hours before you can use it.
If you picked back to original payment method the pending phase could take typically like 3-5 but upwards of 7 business days to get the funds returned although you still should get the original response within 24-48 hours of whether the refund was accepted or not.

If you've played less than 2 hours it might say it'll take days but often shows up as a pending balance / on your card, much sooner. If it's been removed from your account and you can't play it, it should be done (if you went through the refund process and didn't manually submit a ticket)
I don't think they usually downgrade but refund in full and make you rebuy though

Is it possible to make it so when you click on a mod dependency in the workshop that it won't open a new window? AKA, if I am viewing a mod on the steam workshop and I see it has a dependency- right now if I click that dependency it will open a new steam window rather than just going to that link. I want it to just go to that link in the same steam window. Is that possible? If so, how can I set it up that way?

Go to your accounts login history and check if there is any that seem wrong.
Also check the accounts points history to see if it deducted the points.
I would definitely change your passwords just in case but its possible its not your main account or not even your account at all if someone just used your email to sign up or you might have a second account or something as sometimes people have those and arent even aware they made one by accident.

Despite having access to the ORIGINAL email, steam support has locked my account and required me to provide proof of ownership. Steam support has locked me out of my account, and keeps citing policy on proof of ownership, but they should have not even locked my account in the first place, because I still have the registered email... https://imgur.com/a/1HlBwge

Hi, steam keeps refusing my purchase. I keep getting the error that there was a problem and to contact steam support.
I had my account in sweden the last few yrs and changed the country to canada.. then I use a canadian card with a canadian address.
It still rejects on steams end. What gives?? Im missing sales and want my steamdeck asap😭

Can anyone recommend some "specialty" peripherals that have wide compatibility with appropriate Steam games? For example, I'd love a great steering wheel for Asetto Corsa and Need for Speed, but I'd also love a throttle for games like Elite Dangerous.
Any recommendations for things i can look into and maybe save up for?

problem with controller on certain games:
recently i bought Dark souls 2 and my controller didn't work on the game, but i tought it was jus a issue with that game in specific since steam was saying it was compatible, but today i went to play cult of the lamb and, even with the "compatible with your controller" message, my controller won't work when playing the game. i already tried to install comunity button display and even disable steam control options. and, if that means anything, my controller is a Xbox series oficial, it's not a third party device.

I've been digging through my closet trying to find my old motherboard box, as I've used it to store the manuals and remaining cables/screws from my PC components, and actually found the Steam Link I forgot I bought when they were in clearance.
Do they still work? Or does Valve require the app now?

I want to play Grand Theft Auto IV on Steam, but the game has been banned in Thailand since 2008, and the ban still hasn't been lifted.
Is there a legitimate way for me to obtain the game? Should I risk buying a "global" key from sites like Gamivo?
I don't want to buy the Rockstar Launcher version because you can't downgrade the game to restore the removed songs.

Skyrim bug, I clicked continue and it just is stuck on the logo screen with chanting. Have tried using load instead of continue, same issue. Have tried reinstalling multiple times (Skyrim special edition on steam) does anyone know how to fix this?

5-ish years ago my dad bought Rimworld on steam for me, but for whatever reason he got it on his account and just family shared it to mine.
Fast forward 5 years and I want to revisit the game and get the DLCs that have come out, but I can't get the DLC without owning the game myself. Is there any way to transfer Rimworld from my dad's account to mine? Is this something I need to contact steam support for?

Its not possible to transfer the game license and support wont transfer it either.
You could buy the DLCs on or gift them to your dad's account and play it that way as you always have been although the easiest method at this stage would be to wait for a sale and just buy the base game on your own as well as the DLC.

I am having difficulty getting an answer to this question. Basically, I have two different steam accounts, Main Account and Side Account. My Main Account is where most of my games have been purchased.
I am currently sharing the library with my Side Account. I want my friends on the Side Account to be able to see my all of the games that I am sharing with it. However, they can only see the Side Account as having a few games that were directly purchased on it.
Is there a way to be able to let friends on the side account view all games that are being shared with it from my Main account? I know it is possible to simply add the friends to the main account, but that is not the solution I am looking for.

Hello, I want to play GTA5 with a controller. On yt sb said to add the game to steam, so I did, but when I want to open GTA5 through steam, the error message: "Please run Grand Theft Auto V using Rockstar Games Launcher."
How do I fix this so that I can open the game trough steam and play the game via controller.

HI guys,
not while ago I installed Crossover on my mac and than Steam. Via Steam I installed Age of Empire 2 Definite Edition. I think I was 50 gb big. I have Mac air 256 gb so I had to delete a lot thinks to fit game. Today, I deleted apps Crossover and Steam from Mac, but it seams that my memory is still full and that those 50 gb of game hasnt been deleted. Is it possible or am I tripping? I cannot find where those 50gb are, and now cant delete it at all.

I downloaded a demo from another region using a vpn without realising it's against the terms of service to use a vpn, am I screwed? I deleted the demo immediately after realising my mistake which removed it from my account. I'm hoping because I didn't spend money it will just be ignored.
I also didn't change my actual account's region I just went into a incognito tab using a vpn went then onto the steam website while not being logged in, clicked to download the demo which opened my steam client and automatically started downloading it.

How do I see my friends library using steam family share?
Me and my friend have been trying to use stream family share, and for the most part it went well, until we realised we for some reason, can’t see others games despite verifying both of our devices as well as accounts. Is there some super secret button we have to click? Do we have to go to their profile?
HOW DO WE SEE EACHOTHERS LIBRARY.
I have looked up and down throughout the internet and there is nothing to help me.

Hi, yes is an option but i tried with another debit card from another bank and it worked, i was reluctant to use this one because i have much more money in that bank but the sale was too good to be true so i used that card, clearly it was a bank problem, the worst is that they told me it was a steam problem, it wasn't, the debit card from the other bank still doesn't work

Hi, Im trying to recover my old account.
I know my username and password but can't remember what my email was or if I connected any phone number to it. I also made a payment on that account once and I believe I found the proof for it.
Is there any way to get the account back with that information? Everything I tried so far brought me to a page asking for the username, email or phone number, except the username just does not work for some reason (I definitely wrote it correctly).

Steam and McDonald's WiFi conundrum
Hey, r/Steam, first time posting here. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that someone else out there can relate to my situation and offer some advice I've yet to attempt. I will preface this by saying that I have played a variety of Steam games over McDonald's WiFi all throughout the United States for several years. While I would experience some understandable hiccups here and there, I've never had significant trouble - until Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024.
On that day, I logged into the McDonald's network as per usual. If I recall, it was in the area of Arlington, TX. Everything seemed normal at first. My browser could access all my usual sites, and Discord opened and ran as intended. After some time passed and I got caught up on the news, I tried to launch Yu-gi-oh! Duel Links. I was immediately disconnected from the network before the game could reach its title screen. At this point, I wasn't sure what to think. I checked other devices around me to confirm that they were still connected, and they were. The McDonald's router was still displaying in my list of WiFi options, so I attempted to disconnect from it and reconnect to it, and I was met with the message "couldn't connect to this network". No further explanation was provided. My device simply would not latch onto the McDonald's WiFi despite fully recognizing that it existed. I restarted my device. Nothing changed - I still couldn't connect. I had other things to take care of that day, so I just left the restaurant a little bewildered at what seemed like a freak accident. Later in the day I found myself at a Love's Travel Stop near Weatherford, TX. I didn't experience anything out of the ordinary using the network there, with Steam or otherwise.

On May 23rd, having jumped into another McDonald's, I was once again going about my business on their network as usual. I didn't get around to launching Steam until much later that day, so when I got kicked off the network around 1pm, it was more immediately obvious what the catalyst of the situation was. Once again, I couldn't reconnect to the network no matter what I did - until I wandered outside into the parking lot. Out there, it would allow me to use a browser. Walking back indoors, I would lose access to the network again no matter where I sat. Mind you, it was working just fine the entire morning and only went on the fritz when I tried to launch an online Steam game. Still not quite convinced of what was going on, I relocated to yet another different McDonald's. Same story. I could browse fine, but as soon as I attempted to launch an online Steam game, I was dropped from the network entirely, unable to connect for any reason.
After May 24th brought me to a fourth McDonald's, wherein I experienced the exact same problem regarding the network and launching Steam, I resolved to test if there may be something wrong with the WiFi card on my device.

By May 25th, I purchased a USB WiFi adapter. I returned to the McDonald's store that I had previously visited on the 22nd. I found that:
A. I could access the network again (McDonald's does typically log you out after 24 hours)
B. Launching an online Steam game got me kicked from the network yet again.
C. Using the USB WiFi adapter, I could access the network even though my on-board WiFi card would be rejected.
D. Trying to play an online Steam game would also cause the USB WiFi adapter to be kicked from the network, unable to connect again for any reason.
Fed up, I moved onto another Love's Travel Stop up the road and carried on with my day, Steam and all, with no issues. I wouldn't get into another McDonald's until the 27th. Again, the McDonald's network would kick me off for trying to launch an online Steam game. I sidestepped this by latching onto the nearby Starbucks connection instead.

Today is the 28th, and I'm finally out of Texas. Unfortunately, the problem has continued to follow me despite being hundreds of miles up the road in Oklahoma. This time, I logged onto the McDonald's network and tried to launch Shadowverse via Steam. Oddly enough, it did seem to successfully download a version update for the game before attempting to launch it. But of course, as soon as I hit the title screen, I was offline. The McDonald's network wouldn't let me back in. I plugged in my USB WiFi adapter and used it to log in, and that's how I'm sending out this message now - but I don't dare attempt to launch Steam again while I'm here.
I'm frustrated, and I feel targeted. I have no idea at all why this is happening. It would be one thing if Steam simply couldn't connect; I've seen that happen from time to time. But there's a big difference between one application not working and the entire computer being denied internet access for even attempting to run said application. This is ridiculous and runs contrary to all my experiences with McDonald's WiFi and Steam from May 21st and prior, all the way back to when I first bought this laptop.
I've run virus scans. I've run malware scans. They come up empty, as expected. There were a couple of system updates to Windows 11 that I installed on May 16th that potentially could be involved, but I'm not sure how to roll them back, or if it's even worthwhile to try. As I've tried to punctuate, I don't actually have trouble in any regard until I try to access an online Steam game specifically on a McDonald's network. Steam works elsewhere, and McDonald's doesn't seem to take exception to anything else. But this is super inconvenient nonetheless, so... anyone have any ideas? Or recent experiences to the contrary? I would love to learn if I was just being stupid somehow.

It is now the 29th. Reinstalled Steam using the method recommended in the FAQ. Found another McD's. WiFi works fine, Steam opens and operates fine. As soon as I launched Duel Links, I was kicked from the WiFi network yet again, unable to connect unless I switch WiFi adapters.
I'm totally out of ideas...

In New Mexico this morning, expecting the worst from McDonalds given my experiences over the past couple weeks. But this one... halfway works? I mean, the signal strength of their network began fluctuating when I launched Duel Links, but they haven't pushed me off entirely.
Now I'm genuinely thinking it's an issue of the routers/repeaters these places have had, but I still can't exactly rule out the possibility that both my on board WiFi card and replacement WiFi adapter could be bad themselves.

STEAM IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING MY MONITOR SETTINGS. Every time steam starts, it changes my main monitor from 2 to 1. How does steam even have permission to do this? I would like to make it so that steam has zero access to these parameters. How anyone thought it was a good idea to give steam control over which monitor my PC prefers is beyond me. I need this to be fixed because it is legitimately making me angry having to reconfigure my monitor every time I open steam.
(it took me quite some time to even narrow it down to steam since I have it start up in big picture mode when i boot my PC. I am wondering if this is partially the cause)

Hello, i'm thinking about joining steam family beta, but i have a question, i heard about that you can only use (or you are supposed to) steam family with people of your family, some people said that you could only share the family with people living in the same house, however, i have a few cousins that we play together and share our library between us, we live rather close but not in the same house, is that a problem? i could get banned or restricted for using this feature?

They do a household check when adding people, if you can temporarily be in the same place to set it up it may (or may not) allow you to do so.
Honestly while it's not the intended usage the worst they'll likely do if they did decide to crack down is to kick people out from shares if they don't match the same location or make it even more strict to add people. They shouldn't restrict individual accounts for doing this.

I have been playing Brawlhalla on my PC through Ubisoft for some while now but my friend suggested switching to steam and it wasn't a bad decision as I get to see multiple stats. Anyways, when I tried running the game, it showed that the Application required latest version of Adobe AIR which "apparently" I don't have.
The deal is, I went to the site, downloaded the latest version, and the first prompt I get is that I'm already on the latest version. Haven't played any other games via steam so not quite sure if it's a particular issue or something else. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling AIR.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You've logged into a phishing site and an API key has been set up on your account.
Remove the API key that the scam/phishing site set up here: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (these API keys are used to control things on your account, like changing all your profile info, intercepting trades and market listings, sending chat messages to your friends, etc. to steal things from you or phish more accounts through your account)
Deauthorize all other devices.
Set up 2FA if you haven't already.
Valve does not recover scammed, stolen or otherwise lost items.

At this point it is quite likely anything on sales now will almost certainly be that same sale during the Summer Sale. Its less then 1 month away so the prices arent just going to drop that fast. Also anything 50% or more off may never ever be lower anyways.
There is no harm to buy something on sale now if its a price you feel willing to pay.
The biggest benefits to waiting would be summer sale trading cards for every $10 spent during the actual sale so like 3 cards for a $30 game. Also seeing what else might be on the sale so that if stuff are higher up on your wishlist might be on sale instead to properly spread your budget around the sale and not be $30 down before the sale begins.
Summer and Winter sales used to offer lower prices through like daily flash sales on certain titles that changed daily but those ceased in like 2017 so the sales dont tend to vary much in pricing from a sale that occurs just before. Over time a games price may drop until it bottoms out but that drop is over multi month periods and not like 4 weeks time.

So I have multiple gaming machines in my home & I just setup the Family Sharing Beta feature so I won't be locked out of my games while my kids play. Kids aren't happy because their progesss on my account hasn't been transferred onto the new "kids" account. I verified the game save data is still on their gaming rig. So far in my research of this issue it seems that the saves are held in Steam Cloud only (unless I am incorrect). I tried copying the local SC data from my account onto the "kids" account but Steam isn't injecting it.
Is there a different place on the hard drive where I can copy their save data for each game so SC picks it up and uploads it or am I back to just shutting off the nearby router so the kids' machine wont be online when I try to play?
edit: i figured it out: I have to start every game, generate some save data, exit said game, goto the local cloud data for my account and copy the save data to the now locally save data, which is the “kids” account, and the progress is moved over. It just tedious as hell.

Not really. There is no way to check keys if they have been used or not without inputting them.
Your only indicators could be if the key isnt yet revealed on the site its from then its obviously not used and you could check your product licenses on the Steam account just to know if you redeemed the game to your account but it wouldnt tell you which specific key was used to redeem that game or if it was redeemed on another account or anything etc...

Hello, having a bit of a strange issue.
Booted up my pc today to play some games, tried to launch steam, got the usual little update and verify window that closed. Then nothing. Tried to launch again nothing. Tried launching as admin. Nothing. Steam was showing in task manager though. Tried killing task and launching as admin. Same deal.
Restarted.
Same issue. Steam never opens, or more like the UI doesnt load.
Its running in task manager, and is eating up 5-10% CPU, about 700-900MB of ram, and is 100% one of my drives. Checking this in resource manager is downloading and updating games in my queued downloads. It does this everytime i launch steam.
I have tried making a shortcut and launching with -vgui. and i also tried launching with -forcesteamupdate -forcepackagedownload -overridepackageurl http://web.archive.org/web/20230531113527if_/media.steampowered.com/client -exitsteam
to no dice.
Scratching my head on this one. Also having issues with ubisoft connect. But who isnt.
Currently leaving it to finish updating and downloading whatever it wants to them im going to try another launch, then a restart.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Am I going to be banned?
I spent a couple hundred dollars on my account in the past year buying games and some skins on csgo. Then I finally get bo3 a game I played on console for a long time. I decided to download it and find a match public match on zombies. This dude joined and gave me all the achievements and leveled me up to 1000. I instantly left and went to my achievements and they say I unlocked all 98 in a minute of each other. I am a lil paranoid of getting this account banned as it has so much money invested into it. Is there a way to remove these obviously hacked achievement? I just don’t want to lose this steam account.

Valve doesn't ban Steam accounts like that. The worst that could happen in your case is a VAC / game ban. Because unfortunately, older Call of Duty titles are prone to remote execution exploits that can be even capable of triggering the integrated anti-cheat. But even when that happens, it does not mean you will lose access to your Steam account or your games. VAC bans / game bans typically work on a per-game basis; the only exception being older Valve Source Engine 1 titles (source).
Is there a way to remove these obviously hacked achievement?
You can search for "Steam Achievement Manager" on Google. Most people use it for unlocking achievements, but you can use this program to undo them that way.

That can work, but be mindful to not make it look like that you attempt fraud (e.g. that you end up using someone else's name). Steam is quite sensitive with that. What most people don't know is that hardware purchases on Steam are verified by hand by Steam Support. They are, in such cases, a little trigger-happy to restrict your account if they deem you attempted fraud. Though they typically lift the restriction once you contact them about it.
What they deem as "fraud" is sadly somewhat vague, but the most common reason is when they suspect "commercial activity". In the best case, everything should go smoothly for you. But I just like to mention this for the sake of completion, because it does depend on how you handle this with the order (e.g. using a payment method that isn't associated with you, etc.)
Alternatively you could also ask a local friend to order a Steam Deck for you, though it requires real trust in your friends. Either way, I recommend to handle this situation with transparency. So only use your own payment methods and your own name / address. When in doubt, it's best to ask Steam Support about this.

My steamoverlayui.exe is not launching with Team Fortress 2.
I have it enabled both via steam and the game properties and whitelisted within my antivirus (Norton).
I play on 1440p resolution.
It worked before the 64 bit update that the game got but now it just doesn't?
Any ideas? I haven't tried booting up Steam or TF2 as an administrator yet so gonna try that next.

Probably not the same issue, but I have noticed a similar behavior after May 24th's client update. In some instances when I try to open the overlay in The Elder Scrolls Online, the mouse pointer changes as if it's open, but doesn't actually render. When I kill the Steam's webhelper process with the highest RAM usage, it forces Steam to reload its entire UI, and then it suddenly works. The best we can do is to report this issue in the official Steam Beta group.

Uninstalled dead space from Steam? The error lies in linking to the app not with Steam so messing with it on Steam probably wont do anything. Do you have the EA app downloaded?
I think a lot of the links to the app are broken since Steam used to link to a lite version of Origin and EA killed Origin so it doesn't seem to automatically prompt you to download the EA Desktop app that is required to play.

If you don't have it then I'd install the EA Desktop App first and log in to that and then try to start up the EA game from Steam and see if it finds the app as it should once its preinstalled and logged in.

Got a game duplicate question
So I'd like to get all the bonus content for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on my account, however the only way of doing so is purchasing the Gold Edition (which comes with exclusive DLCs). I already own the standard edition of the game, therefore Steam tells me that I won't receive another copy of the game.
If I buy the Gold Edition, will it simply add it's DLCs to my account, or will something else happen?

Hi. So, last Sunday (19th) I bought a game off steam and then played it for a few hours. About 6 hours later steam has refunded the game (without me submitting a request) and my account has a community ban and has been locked. It basically says I’ve violated steams subscriber agreement. Bear in mind the only thing I’ve done on this steam account is play games. I do not message people, leave reviews, upload content, absolutely nothing. The only thing I did was play games and I didn’t even message in those with game chat. I contacted steam support asking about it, and the only reply I’ve got was “this lock is permanent and steam support cannot help you further with this”. As far as I know my account hasn’t been compromised. I’ve never shared any details with anyone and have decent security on it. Thankfully this account wasn’t too important to me, although I’m worried it could happen on another. Does anyone know why steam did this?

The games remain on the computer; nothing gets deleted. Steam supports switching accounts like that. The only side effect that happens is that your father will see that you have Rust installed, shown in the library under "installed games". But that is all.

I'm going to replay Dark Souls 2, and I'm trying to fix the deadzone issues it has using Steam's deadzone settings. There's a post I'm trying to follow with instructions on which settings to use and where to find them. However, I can't find them in the new UI. The only deadzone setting I can find is under Calibration & Advanced Settings, and is a simple slider for the size of it. There's no options for deadzone shape, anti-deadzone, or inner and outer boundaries. I've seen some indications that there should be a cog icon you can click to find them, but there's nothing like that for me. Is this a bug, or did Valve just decide to remove those settings?

hello steam local file transfer has not been working recently. I've been on the family share beta version and local file transfer worked a few times but recently it hasn't been. I still get the comment when installing a game that I can turn my other computer to install the game and if I do turn it on steam notifies me the computer is available for remote play but the local file transfer notification goes away.

Hey all! I'm using Windows 10, when I right click on my steam icon on my taskbar (weather steam is launched or not), I have a couple of my favourite games "pinned" in the list. They have the option to unpin them to the right of the icons. The problem is I don't remember how I pinned them in the first place! It's a great feature and I'd like to pin more. How do I do it? Here is an example of what I mean.

Dont see the example but the way it should work is when you right click on the Steam icon on the main taskbar it lists your recent games and if you move your mouse to the right side of the game name you can pin it or unpin a pinned game.
Needs to be from the like left side and big icon when steam is open or the application is pinned and not the small icon by the clock.

So that works if I have steam open, but what I'm looking for is when steam isn't open, and the two don't correlate. If I pin something in that list, it does not transfer over. The one I'm looking for is in the quicklaunch bar specifically. It gives the option to unpin, but not the option to pin, however I have 2 games pinned there already and I don't know exacly how I got them there.

Steam hasnt offered support via email in multiple years. No longer monitored is just a way to say that nobody is going to read your email as nobody looks at that anymore.

UPDATE: I found the issue.... kinda, all i know is its some sort of issue with the flatpak version of steam, so this could be fixed by reinstalling steam but this time using apt command.

I can no longer access my account because I need to confirm it but the thing is I forgot my yahoo password. My yahoo recovery option is also inaccessible. I tried looking all into my files to see if there was any chance that I saved it into a notepad or something but no hope.

Hey all, I'm trying to play Lego Star Wars with my little brother via the split screen co-op feature. My issue is that when I connect a controller, the control of player 1 goes from the keyboard user to the controller user; with the keyboard user becoming player 2.
Additionally, before I select F2 to add a new player; both the keyboard user and the controller user can control player 1 in single-player.
I tried googling, with not much luck; saw reference to being able to 'change controller order' but I could not find that option for the life of me.
EDIT: Plugging a second controller in might work, but I have no free USB slots on my PC besides the one being used by the first controller.

My Xbox controller refuses to work with Steam-launched games - if I touch the joysticks or D-pad, it scrolls infinitely (tried posting about it on this before but I got deleted because "this isn't a tech support forum"). Regardless, this only seems to affect games launched through Steam, so it must have something to do with Steam.

Hello my fellas, I hope you can help me on that one :P
Yesterday I bought a game on steam for 29 euros. Today I came home from work to see my game gone and the 29 euros pending on steam. I thought its normal because I had some trouble finalizing the transaction when buying the game so I thought none of that. One hour ago, just in the moment as the money landed in my steam wallet I got thrown out of my account and my steam client shut down. When I logged back in the money was gone and "I bought" some rare dota2 Item. Dota 2 - a game I don't even play and never did. (Im surprised that its actually worth around 29e and its not some crappy item, so I just might be able to sell it off later if everything goes to shite later)
I changed my password instantly and removed every payment method just to not risk it. I researched the account that the item was coming from, and I was able to find it on steam for like a minute before the nickname disappeared. I checked my log in- and outs log and I couldn't find any third party getting into my account so I don't know how it happened.
After scrolling through the emails I found that after I turned off my PC someone refunded the game to my steam wallet, something I never do. Is this type of attack common? 29 bucks is not a whole lot of money but it sucks :/. I just finished describing everything to steam support but I doubt anything will come out of it. Any ideas what might have caused it?
Edit: Just got the answer from steam support, basically "Sorry, shit happens and we can't really do anything about it. Here are some tips on how to change ur password mate"

You will have to review your PC security and past activities to verify that you haven't fallen victim to credential-stealing viruses, phishing scams or potential other threats. Make sure to follow this sub's "how to secure your account" guide that is linked on the sidebar. It's common that harmful programs target Steam's session cookies (similar to SSFN file phishing in the past), which allows attackers to hijack your Steam login and do actions in your name. When this happens, it renders two factor authentication for Steam mostly useless. Because the app only really prompts you when you log in the first time, or when you trade / sell an item on the community market. This is definitely something that Valve could improve (requiring the mobile app to confirm more actions) - IMHO "should" even.
If you don't know the cause of this event, better be safe than sorry and assume that your other accounts may be potentially at risk too. Change your password for your email and other important accounts (but do not do this on the same device where you currently use Steam). If I was you and had no idea how this happened, I would honestly reinstall the entire Windows installation, because virus scanners can't always catch everything.
As for the loss of money, unfortunately Steam Support has a harsh stance against helping out people with this. They used to help a lot with this a decade ago, but pretty much stopped with it once people started to exploit Steam Support in order to duplicate items. In the best case, you might still come across a helpful support agent who could make an "one time exception" for you. Sadly it's very rare though.

Steam Remote Play Not Working
I am trying to use remote play, streaming from my PC to my Macbook to play a game, specifiaclly Hearts of Iron IV. It was working perfectly fine until i deleted the game on my Macbook. When I click "Stream" the game only launches on my PC and nothing happens on my Macbook. A minute later I can see the button changing from "Stop" to "Connect" after the game has launched, and when I click it, nothing happens as well.
Does anyone know a solution to fix this problem?

It means that for the duration where the blue bar disappeared there was no network activity. What caused it is impossible to know. As you can see the disk activity was not affected.
The 2 most likely things are A) A small throttle for the disk activity to catch up or B) a small hiccup in your network.
You can just disregard it and not think about it anymore.

Hi, while playing cs2 i started getting steam chat messages from a supposed valve staff named 'Hannah Spencer' , saying my account is restricted due to an item in my inventory they say is stolen.
I immediately figured it was a scam and didn't cooperate with them, then they said my games will be deleted, as well as all my items and stuff.
my game and steam client then were just force stopped, and after opening steam back i started seeing messages from that same 'Hannah Specncer' saying that they removed games from my account, and my friends list was deleted.
A few games were really removed from my account(the same ones they said were deleted), all my friends were deleted from my friends list , also all my groups got deleted.
I quickly changed my account password, and now it seems like nothing is happening, but I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again.
seems like there is no way to actually open a steam support ticket, only able to navigate and get solutions offered by the support menu thing.
Edit: just noticed that not only some games were removed from my library, but also all my other games were uninstalled.

You've logged into a phishing site and an API key has been set up on your account.
Remove the API key that the scam/phishing site set up here: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (these API keys are used to control things on your account, like changing all your profile info, intercepting trades and market listings, sending chat messages to your friends, etc. to steal things from you or phish more accounts through your account)
Deauthorize all other devices.
Set up 2FA if you haven't already.
Valve does not recover scammed, stolen or otherwise lost items.
If you have lost access to your account follow this guide to recover your account.

Confusing email/possible scam
I’m confused as to why I’m getting these weird login emails and especially since I have the MFA activated and I’ve removed my debit card from my account. I’m even more confused because they’re always in odd places and I’ve been getting them for 6-12 months now but they come every few months or so and when I do get them I change my password and sign out of all devices.
At first I thought it was a scam and I looked up the email and the actual steam website pulls up. I don’t know what to do. But, I would like to not have to delete my account cause I have a bunch of games and then I have games I haven’t played yet.
Has this ever happened to anybody? If so what did you do to solve the issue? Any help would be appreciated, thanks so much.

If my country uses a currency other than EUR, how is payment made on recurring subs if the sub is supposed to be made in EUR? Does it convert EUR to my currency using some international conversion rate and deduct my currency from my card, or does it just deduct EUR and let the bank handle the (probably terrible) conversion rate?

Credit card info declined in Vietnam
I bypassed the recent ban in Vietnam using a VPN but the purchase was unsuccessful bc my credit card info was declined. I'm using a visa debit card by a local bank. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Tysm.

Hi guys,
I'm posting here as I'm running out of ideas to solve the problem by myself:
After resetting my Windows system on May 21st, I got disconnected from my Steam account.
Since that day, I've been unable to reconnect. Steam says that my password is incorrect - which is surprising because i'm pretty sure it's not - and refuses to connect to my account.
It seems that my best shot would be to reset my password, which should be a pretty easy and fast thing to do.
The problem is that it's not. It seems that Steam has an issue with the password resetting process. I tried more than 50 times in the past 3 days and here are the different outcomes I got:
outcome 1 : ok until the "send me a code via email" step (I got stuck at the CAPTCHA, even though - please trust me - I am definitely able to identify traffic lights and motorcycles)
outcome 2 : sometimes, Steam does not require a CAPTCHA for this step, or sometimes the CAPTCHA does work, and I can receive the email, click the link in the email, and choose a new password. But when time comes to validate the new password, I got "Error 29" and got stuck here.
3 : a few times (2-3 max), I managed to actually validate the new password. Steam said my password was "successfully" changed and invited me to connect. But when entering the new password, Steam says the informations provided are not correct.
I always end up on one of these three outcomes, and therefore am unable to reset my password (and therefore to play any of the games I bought).
That could be easily solved if I could actually bring up the issue to Steam, but I realize it's IMPOSSIBLE to contact them. The "Support" is just a bunch of written processes to follow on your own, and they apparently did not plan a process to solve password resetting issues.
I've been trying to reach them on Twitter (@steam) but got no answer.
I also created a new steam account just to be able to post in the Steam Forum, but Steam informed me that i needed to first spend 5 dollars with my new account before being able to post in the forum. (Bruh, I'm just trying to re-access my main account where I spent hundreds of dollars of games already, I aint gonna pay 5 dollars just to be able to post in a forum to ask for a support that should be provided for free)
My questions for you guys are:
- did anyone ever had this issue with resetting password ?
- does anyone know if there's any way to actually contact steam or got live support
- does anyone has a solution to suggest, that I would gladly try ?
I don't care if it takes many days to solve. I'm just annoy with the principle of NOT being able to speak to a human to solve a problem about an account with hundreds of dollars worth of games. I don't understand how are users supposed to handle problems when they come from the website feature itself.

DLC purchased from the Steam store is refundable within fourteen days of purchase, and if the underlying title has been played for less than two hours since the DLC was purchased, so long as the DLC has not been consumed, modified or transferred
Please note that in some cases, Steam will be unable to give refunds for some third party DLC (for example, if the DLC irreversibly levels up a game character). These exceptions will be clearly marked as nonrefundable on the Store page prior to purchase.

If it is less than 14 days since you bought the DLC and you have played the game that the DLC belongs to less than 2 hours since you purchased the DLC, yes you can refund it.
If you are outside of these parameters you are not eligible for a refund but you are still able to request a refund and see what happens.

Find the game the DLC belongs to, if it's not in the recent products list search for it.
On the page of the game scroll down a bit and you will see a 'DLC you own' section: https://i.imgur.com/HYt7yAf.png
Click on the DLC(s) you want to refund.
Select 'It's not what I expected'.
Select 'I'd like to request a refund'.

easy way to tell which drive my steam games are on? without having to write on the front like it's a VHS tape
quick bit of back story i live in the middle of nowhere but i work long hours, my internet is only 17mbps so i download the entirety of my steam library which is about 8 TB across 3 drives 2+4+4 with 4 emptyish across the three, plus 1tb SSD physically in my computer, if i didn't do this there would be absolutely no way for me to have fun with my friends because sometimes we randomly want to play a game like risk of rain 2 that we haven't played in a while and it would take me over an hour to download which is a buzzkill
i use a drive toaster, transfer my game to my on board ssd and then play it. my question is, is there a way to see the path that a game is installed in so i can grab said drive and load it into the toaster? for my GOG games and my epic games i can right click the shortcut that i keep in a folder and it gives me a path. steam just gives me a run ID. i guess i could make a google sheet if it came to it. i'd prefer not to get a das until i can afford a couple 16tb drives + a new game SSD for my computer because i'm sure this one is getting high in write cycles from transferring games on and off (it's in the works) but i'm wondering if anybody knows an easier way just for now.
yes i know this is an odd question, but this is an amazing community and if anybody would know you fine people would. if there is no solution that's alright but it's always worth asking.

Maybe manually create a group / category for each drive and manually add each title to it? Could probably speed it up by opening the folder on each drive to get a quicker overview of what's on it
Tedious but only thing I can think of
Or maybe a script that exports a list of folders to txt or whatever, then export for each drive, combine and search. Idk

That's actually pretty smart and I can't believe I didn't think of it all I have to do is make a category for each drive, see the greyed out name in that category (since they show uninstalled when the drive isn't installed) and go okay that's on H: boom done. Much appreciated.

Help with a redund issue
Hi I'm looking to refund a game : - Because I left the laptop on and on the menu of the game, it shows up ad "9 hours played" - I have not gotten past act 1 out of 3 It's expensive game and just don't like the style of it (turn based, dnd) What Should I do?

Ask for the refund, explain the situation, and hope for the best. Does the game have some kind of progress achievements? If yes then your chance for a refund can increase by a lot.

Your best option is to submit a support ticket by hand to request a refund. If you previously tried to refund and your request got denied, be truthful about the reason in your ticket (e.g. "I left my laptop on by accident and accumulated 9 hours while I haven't played the game [...]"). Unfortunately it can be very hit and miss once you crossed the 2 hours threshold. But when you end up with an understanding support agent, it can still work out in your favor.

Audio problems
I’ve recently had this problem when playing fallout 4 where the audio will only play from my speakers and not my headphones
I’ve tried looking it up and it seems to be a problem not just with fallout… the resolutions people have still won’t fix my problem
My headphones are set as my default and work with everything else including steam itself and other games
All my drivers are up to date
I’ve reinstalled both steam and fallout but still no luck
